Beautiful vacation, amazing staff!!

I took this trip with family, there were 16 of us in total. We all had an amazing time. The beach is beautiful, the pool is great, and the drinks are always flowing. The staff here is fantastic, they go out of their way to make sure you are happy and having a good time. Huge shout out to Yahaira(Yaji) who worked in the towel stand but also did some of the entertainment, she was amazing and the kids loved her! She even took the time to teach my mom one of the Dominican line dances that the entertainment crew was doing on stage every night! Also Simon, the bartender by the beach who was fantastic! Anthonny who was our concierge was great as well, and our waiter in the mornings at breakfast. I didn't get his name but he always made sure we were taken care of. I saw some reviews complain about the locals however, even though it was more crowded when they were there it did not take away from our experience. And I take no issue with them paying less to be there for the weekend pass because it is their beautiful country and beaches and they should totally have access to it. The rooms were great, if you aren't used to not having a shower curtain or a sliding door you may need to adjust. Loved the balcony. The only complaint I have is that the fridge in my room did not work, but with cold drinks available 24/7 and us only being in the room to sleep and shower it did not matter. Now to the down side. The food. The food was very disappointing. There was always something to eat but it wasn't very good. Chicken franks and mystery meat burgers are both unappealing. At the buffet the food never made sense, it was just random stuff placed in rows next to each other. I was looking forward to very flavorful and authentic Dominican meals but I guess that was our fault since we didn't leave the resort. I'm assuming they have to cater to all palates and so bland food is safe food. The best thing my family found was actually at the place upstairs by the pool. The guy there made grilled chicken wings every day that were FANTASTIC. A huge plate of those and some fries topped with the nacho cheese sauce from the nachos (basically velveeta cheese sauce) was always there to save the day. Also, it was disappointing that the pool closed at 6 and so did the beach. This forces everyone to pretty much shower and have dinner, then watch the "show". There were no real entertainment options after the pool closed. Since the Explorers Club for the kids doesn't close until ten, it would be a great idea to have entertainment for the adults between 6-10, like adults only pool parties, etc. Overall we had an amazing vacation and wished we didn't have to leave.

Beautiful vacation, amazing staff!!

Like a spring break zoo on the weekends

I've been to several Caribbean all-inclusives, and I would have to say that Sunscape felt the most chaotic. There is a section of rooms for international travelers which is supposed to be upgraded, and the bulk of the resort appears to be for Dominicans, so it's strangely segregated. The dining options were limited, and the main dining room, Windows, was packed at usual mealtimes, and even more so on weekends. The main pool was like Spring Break in Daytona, and pool music and activities continue until 10:30 or later each night--too loud for me and the kids that had a room facing the party. On the plus side, the beach is nice, the sunsets great, the snorkeling good for little ones, and the staff are generally kind and authentically friendly--which appears to be the case for most Dominicans, which I didn't know. I'll definitely go back to the island.

Overall, great vacation

Overall I had a great vacation. The resort was beautiful and clean. The spa was amazing! The staff were super friendly. My only issues were: 1) Food Options: I'm a Latina from the NYC and I was looking forward to authentic Dominican cuisine. Unfortunately, there weren't many options. 2) WiFi: Website states WiFi is available in the rooms at a cost. We were told otherwise. The only WiFi was in the lobby or Welcome Center, which is a hassle when you would like to check text/emails from the comfort of your own bed. 3) Souvenir Vendors: Vendors both on the resort and on the beach were extremely persistent to the point of being annoying. Every few minutes they would haggle you to buy something. It's difficult to relax when you're constantly repeating "No, thank you."

Ok but not great

Don’t expect flavorful food. Overall, our family was very surprised on the quality of food provided. Also, the pictures on the website as well as the printed advertisements, leads one to believe that the sleeping accommodations for a family of four are at least two queen beds. Upon arrival we were brought to a cute and clean, but very small room with two full beds. Having three out of the four members of our family measuring 5 foot 7 inches or more, we had to inquire for roomier sleeping accommodations. We were accommodated for additional couple of hundred dollars more :( Pool was great except when the resort was opened up to the general public on the weekends. Top shelf liquor almost obsolete. Last but not least, NO WIFI EXCEPt FOR IN THE LOBBY/CONCEIERGE AREA. You couldn’t even purchase it for in room use as advertised.
