Extremely disappointed in Sunscape

In preparation for this trip we read many reviews and looked at a ton of pictures. But let me tell you the beach at Sunscape was super nasty and smelled terrible. They blamed the seaweed but even if the seaweed had not been overwhelming the beach still needed a lot of work. They claim to have WiFi but what they don’t tell you is you have to spend extra money to upgrade to “Sun Club” status to get the WiFi. The pictures you see on the website of the room,,,, well no, not hardly. Imagine a sauna because the air conditioner in your room is terrible and your friends have to move to 3 different rooms because their air is not working and then still end up with a crappy unit, oh and the jacuzzi tub didn’t work in any of the 3 rooms they moved into. And whatever you read about the food, just don’t believe it the food was Chinese buffet at best but nothing to send pictures home about. Oh and it’s such a fantastic resort they spend all week pressuring the heck out of you to attend this time share meeting where they take you to another resort they own and tell you how much better it is and how crappy Sunscape is. At night they allow these vendors to set up all over the resort who are selling everything from cigars to toe rings and you basically have to point and run the other way to get away from them, I swear I had to get one out of my suitcase at customs he was so pushy. All and all I was extremely disappointed in the resort and I am more than likely going with a different company to book my next vacation with if this is the caliber resort Cheap Caribbean is promoting. Do yourself a favor just say pass to Sunscape.

Sunscape Bavaro

Check in staff was not friendly, did not feel welcome. Housekeeping staff were great. Restaurant staff were friendly and very fast with service, place was clean. Did not like all the vendors in the hotel, could not walk around on our first day, every corner they we’re harassing you to purchase items from them. Did not feel comfortable. Great entertainment. Carry los of cash and change for tips Loved my vacation.

Place is beautiful but it has a lot of problems the seaweed problem in the back you cannot enjoy the Beach they should find a company that needs seaweed as they would become rich from the seaweed the enormous amounts of seaweed that wash up on the shore daily so those out there that are in the beauty business looking for seaweed come to Sunscape Bavaro beach it is a gold mine for seaweed the rooms are gorgeous Although our air conditioner wasn't so great the service definitely needs help if they had Top Notch Resort as it is a beautiful property they tried to put us in a less expensive room when we arrived of course I battled and got the room I paid for at first we were treated like VIP in order to do the 90 minute vacation club once we did do it which was 3 hours and a half not 90 minutes as promised we got a $100 massage gift not before having to sit 3 hours with 10 different people that wouldn't take no for an answer but finally did the food is a 3 out of 5 we were promised $200 in coupons through CheapCaribbean with they did give us the coupons but you cannot use them at all it's $10 off a bottle of wine of course the bottle of wine has to be over $50 we got $60 in spa treatments which you cannot use together and the spot treatments all have to be over $75 so that wasn't used the other is 4 the casino the towels are hard as I said before the property is beautiful but it really needs to be revamped the staff needs to beat free educated they need better towels both for the beach as well as for the rooms if that happens this can be a five star resort but it seems like everybody's lazy they do not rush to help anyone and I'm sure that is bringing down the value of the hotel which is a shame because it is it is a 5-star hotel if it had all the good qualities it's too bad because it is very very beautiful and it has incredible potential but definitely needs a lot of work with hospitality service and this seaweed problem little minor things but they do add up at the end I hope someone involved with the hotel reads this and really puts themselves forward to fixing the issues that this hotel has people do not like to go on vacation and be bombarded every where they go with people trying to make a tip or trying to sell you something I picked CheapCaribbean because it gave me the opportunity to pay on a whenever I wanted until the last day but I will not pick this hotel I will pick a much better hotel next time I picked it because it had the most beautiful room of all the hotels on the beach as I said before it is a beautiful hotel it just really needs to be revamped maybe the guy from Bar Rescue could come out of here and hook this up again and make it what it was once

Beach and Food

The hotel was ok. The service was good. At first our rooms felt hot and humid, it took about 2 days for our ac to kick in. The beds were not the most comfortable. But I got used to it after the first night. The beach was not swimmable. There having some sort of seaweed problem where they have here huge boulders in the ocean trying to fix the issue. The beach is such a big deal for me. It’s what I look forward to the most when going on vacation. A real big downer. Other than that the pools were good. They had great daily entertainment; different things to do everyday at the pool. I do wish they had more food options. They have 3 restaurants, and one of them doesn’t allow kids. So we had the choice of two main buffets and two restaurants. Seemed like we were having the same kinds of foods all the time.

What's to Love

Kids get a passport that will kick off a scavenger hunt (read: keeps them occupied so you can chill)

The Pirate Ship Excursions - grab your eye patches and hop aboard.

The teal waters that hug El Cortecito Beach, which will hypnotize you for hours.

Swimming with dolphins - Bucket List item you must do.

Scuba diving - there's a fee, but dive in. It's a memory-making kind of thing.

Snagging a boat over to the sublime Saona Island - an unforgettable day trip.

The indoor theater with spectacular shows. Order a drink and prepare to be "wowed."

What We'd Change

Sometimes it's hard to find complete peace at the pool, but this is a family-friendly resort so lots of young ones will be splashing around.

Why You Should Go

It's only 25 minutes from the airport - Instant Happiness is very close.

You can go reef exploring, whale watching or for less water, hang out in a floating spa.

Isla Catalina is near and has dramatically beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling & diving.

The resort can arrange an intimate dinner - just for two - in a variety of romantic spots.

Play a round at the Cocotal Golf Course designed by the famous Pepe Gancedo.

Hoyo Azul, a natural lagoon of crystalline water, is 38 minutes away. It's breathtaking.

Water sports rule here with catamaran sailing, snorkeling cruises, and deep sea fishing.

The 16th century Mediterranean village, Altos de Chavon, is a must-see.
