Beautiful resort with mediocre service

The resort itself was beautiful and the grounds are impeccable. Everything was very clean and well maintained besides wear and tear to seat cushions and pool mats. We upgraded to a honeymoon suite with a private pool which we used every day. Although the community pools were a lot of fun (swim up bar at one) we enjoyed the quiet serenity of our own pool. Our biggest complaint was the service. The staff was not very accommodating if we needed to alter anything (whether it be changing our transportation time or asking for vegetarian meals). The cleaning staff cleaned the room well but did not restock coffee or drinks or bring us a bottle of champagne that was suppose to come with the room. Overall it was a nice experience, the food was pretty good, the hotel itself was beautiful, and they had a fair amount of activities to do throughout the day. I would recommend it to others if you're able to get a good deal on the trip.

Great Honeymoon

The resort was beautiful and the staff extremely friendly. We didn't run into even one person rude or unwelcoming. Everyone was very excited we were there. Our butler was angel, he was amazing...very kind and helpful with whatever we needed. The bartenders were amazing. Carlos was my husbands buddy from day one. We brought our yetis thinking we would bring them to the pool to drink out of them, NOT NEEDED! They will make you whatever you want, whenever you want, and they will give you 4 at a time. And they don't slack on the strength of the drink either. We had to pace ourselves. They were always very entertaining and you kind of make a friendship with them while you are there. The atmosphere was great as well, not too crowded. We thought we would have to reserve a chair with an umbrella early, but that was really unnecessary. Everyone at the resort was friendly and there was plenty of room. The entertaining staff is great, there was water aerobics and beach/pool games every now and then. The staff will try to get you to play just because they are trying to be fun, but not a big deal if you don't. They will leave you alone if you're not into it. The only things I would change, they tried to get us to upgrade to a more expensive room while we were checking in. I didn't really like that, It felt to me like they were saying our room wasn't good enough. We would have loved to but didn't want to pay an extra $1000 for our room. And it kinda put a damper on our stay for just a little bit, because you always want what you don't have...but we got over it. :) The other downside I would say would be the dining options. What they have is great, don't get me wrong. But I would love it if they had some more options especially for breakfast and lunch, there were only 2 options for those and that kinda got old after the week was up. Our room was average, but that is from my perspective, I'm a bit picky about my rooms and I especially wanted something special for our honeymoon. There was a balcony but we didn't really use it because of the heat outside. Our room was the only air conditioned place we could utilize on the property. There is also a slight weird smell, but that could be just your average hotel room smell. If you look closely there is slight significant ware to the surfaces and furniture. The mini bar could use a bit more restocking too, some days it got stocked some days it didn't. Our butler was able to get us champagne one day, but other than that you have to pay for it. It would have been nice if there was some kind of jacuzzi considering that it was a castle suite which was supposed to be nicer than your average room. We met a couple in one of the average rooms, the only difference between ours and theirs was the butler service...which we didn't really utilize that much. SO summary, great resort, beautiful, friendly staff, relaxed, lacking just a bit on the dining options but excellent food with what they have, rooms need a bit upgrading in the castle suite in my opinion to make them a bit more special, and if they didn't try to upgrade us to a better room on the first day this place would for sure be a 5 star. Bring sunscreen - they are 20 bucks a bottle in the store. Bring some 1s for tips - they aren't asking you for tips..we didn't see anyone holding their hand out expecting... and technically your tips are included, but a few bucks goes a long way in making friends with the staff to get you a few extra drinks or a faster service.

Amazing Honeymoon

The grounds of Sanctuary Cap Cana are absolutely amazing! The crew does a great job of making everything look perfect. Also, this hotel does an incredible job of providing nightly entertainment. We stayed here for a week and we looked forward to the shows every night (they were different each night). The entertainment staff does a great job of getting people involved and providing entertainment throughout the day. Cons: The only con we really had of this place was consistency. You could order the same drink all day and get 10 different versions in 10 different glasses and sometimes they tasted amazing while other times they did not taste the best. However, since it is an all inclusive you can just go get another drink!

2nd time returning

So this was our second time returning after 4 years. When my wife and I went for our honey moon the first time and everything was just as great as it was the first time. The first time we went we had gotten a beach front room, and though it was nice we didn't get it this time because the majority of the time we spent out at the pool or on the beach anyways. The rooms were nice and clean, we had gotten a junior suite and they all technically have beach front views since the resort itself is on the beach. One thing we love about this resort was that its in a private section of the island so you feel in the middle of a tropical paradise without any feeling of insecurity. I think they said it has like 180 rooms so its not too big or overly crowded, which we felt other resorts can get. Food was great as always, steak cooked to perfection. The ONLY thing we could complain about was the music they played at the pool and bar at night. It probably won't bother most but we just didn't like how they played mainly top 40. I get that maybe they're trying to make guest feel welcome but the whole point of us going somewhere tropical and exotic was to get a feeling of the island vibe, and we wanted to listen to some bachata, merengue, salsa, some latin music! But all they played was top 40, hip hop, and pop, which was kind of annoying for us, why play what I can listen to at home :/ ...but other than that we loved our trip, the staff is awesome and always going above an beyond to make everyone feel welcome. "Baby Face" lol did a great job always trying to make it fun for everyone and keep the mood happy and carefree. Moises and Anselmo are awesome bartenders, they can make whatever you want or just tell them what your in the mood for and they can make something up. Lastly and probably our favorite staff member was Menor A.K.A. Kevin Hart (thats what his name tag says lol) he was always making jokes and keeping everyone happy, always attentive to everyone and constantly asking if there was anything he could do to make our stay better. We loved it, we hope to go back for our 10yr anniversary. You will not regret staying at Sanctuary Cap Cana!

What's to Love

The Sanctuary Spa is fabulous and features 20,000 sq ft of full-service relaxation, including amenities and services such as hydrotherapy and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

What We'd Change

This resort does have a beach, but it's recommended that you take the easy three-minute walk to nearby Juanillo Beach, where the surf is a bit tamer. That just means no one blocks the ocean views from your room!

Why You Should Go

This extraordinarily luxurious Cap Cana resort rests on a plot of land twice the size of Manhattan and is replete with ivory beaches, iridescent indigo surf and awe-inspiring cliff faces.

Hotel Description

Sanctuary Cap Cana: Indulge in Immense Luxury, Intense Relaxation

Escape to a pristine getaway twice the size of Manhattan, where alabaster-white sands, emerald forests, expansive cliff faces and a rolling blue-green surf surround the all inclusive Sanctuary Cap Cana. Featuring 176 suites and villas, this luxury resort is also home to Sanctuary Spa, a Punta Cana gem that features a 20,000-sq-ft facility complete with nine treatment rooms, a relaxation garden, a Pilates studio and a thermal hydrotherapy circuit.

Pleasantly perched right on a beachfront, the Sanctuary at Punta Cana is just a three-minute walk to popular Juanillo Beach, where guests enjoy palm-tree lined sands with an assortment of sun loungers and the resort's water sports center. With five swimming pools, including one saltwater pool, and the Freshco swim-up bar, guests can also find plenty of water-laden luxury without setting foot on the sand. Enjoy plush towels and complimentary loungers poolside with plenty of shady umbrellas to indulge in as little or as much Caribbean sunshine as you desire.

The Blue Marlin, a seafood restaurant resting on stilts over the sea, offers fresh seafood indoors or al fresco, with one-in-a-million views. If you're interested in pushing your taste buds east, try Pan-Asian fare courtesy of Wok, or indulge in Italian classics at Capriccio. Sigh your contented sighs, but don't turn in just yet! The Sanctuary Cap Cana offers live nightly entertainment, theme and cocktail parties and consistent programming for children and families. The night is as young as you make it with five bars, including a live piano bar.

Guests at the resort can hoof about the countryside on horseback, paint the resort red with paintball, charge the cliff-tops on complimentary mountain bikes or shake their money-makers at a dance lesson or two. And if the day goes long, or the night stretches into the day, it would be a shame not to capitalize on 24-hr room service. Have a delicious snack delivered right to your Monarch Ocean Front Villa, and set up a late night feeding frenzy on your terrace. When your own private garden looks out over the moon-kissed Caribbean, it's easy to see why sleep can wait a bit.
