Staff, beach and grounds are beautiful and awesome. The food is subpar, and flies play with the food more than anything else. Not much dominican food, most of the food are prepackaged frozen food. After the 3rd day, i left the resort to go out to find better food and entertainment. Wifi is only available in the front desk lobby or certain parts of the beach and its not strong. The rooms are dated and need updating, alcohol seems watered down. We loved being on the beach and did not spend too much time in the pool. We liked the fact that we could go to the sister resort and have there food or sit on the beach. I want to go back to DR but i would only go back to this resort for the location/grounds.

I always stay at the RIU

However, this one had roches and the Supposably fresh towels that were put in our Room smelled like mildew. Also there Is no after hour snack bar for when your drunk and hungry after 11pm..other than that the staff was great and drinks was great food could have been a little better but there is a large variety.

Have been at this rui 3 times

Had a wonderful vacation the employees are all friendly very helpful I have a 12 and 11-year-old they love the beach and pool -and there are many activities for the kids to do One great bonus is the sister hotel is right next-door so you can have lunch or dinner or breakfast at that location if you choose but the but Chatta Is the better hotel to stay at much cleaner The only downfall now is they don't have a ATM at the hotel any more you have to go to the city to get cash so mange your cash while your there only thing I would change is there food need to be updated it's the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday -my family and I was there for 2 1/2 weeks so got tiered of the same thing every day but dinner was good it was different theme every day Overall it was a great vacation the ocean view was a great room better ac System there's two in each room but far from the pool and bars my parents had that room my room was very close to all my boy said they need to Update the basketball court and tennis court very run down

Skip this resort and find somewhere better

We travel a lot and have been using cheap Caribbean for years. Riu Bachata had great staff and the grounds were nice. Everything else was terrible. The food was hardly edible (breakfast was good). They claim to have 3 restaurants but only one is open each night with limited availability. What's worse is they won't even allow reservations. You have to stand in line to be rejected at the door as if we didn't already pay for the food. And what's worse is the restaurants are not much better than the buffet. The pool was closed 3 days due to children using the pool as a toilet. The only positive was the staff is nice and the resort itself looks somewhat nice. I spoke with a manager who agreed that the resort is run terribly due to the company going downhill. Again, don't waste your money and go somewhere better until they improve their standards for this resort. I have yet to contact their corporate since returning but plan to due to how unsatisfied we are.

The bungalow-style guest rooms in two three-story pastel buildings. It's your happy place.

The two freshwater swimming pools and the solarium terrace. Dive in.

The aahh-some Shiatsu, Lomi-Lomi and stress-smashing massages at the Renova Spa.

Floating along with friends/family/new friends on a pedalo aka paddle boat in the delicious ocean.

The Caribbean Street promenade with shopping, art galleries, boutiques and craft shops.

Visiting the Rum factory famous for its Ron Brugal (rum) in Puerto Plata. Cheers!

What We'd Change

Perhaps more food choices, but you can also go next door to the sister resorts.

Why You Should Go

Several world-class, 18-hole golf courses and horseback riding are near by. Gotta hit these.

You can share all the bars/nosh spots at the sister resorts, Riu Mambo & Riu Merenge.

Rio Damajagua waterfalls & La Isabela National Parks are a short hop away.

You can get wet n' wild with snorkeling, body boards, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing.

Check out the Riu Pacha Club (dancing) and El Millon casino (slots/table games) - Partay!

You can rent a moped, explore the island, then, play a rousing game of table tennis.

Kids ages 4-7 and 8-12 can hang at RiuLand where they can play games in the pool while you chillax.
