Room for Improvement

Overall it was an ok stay. The majority of the staff was very nice and helpful with the exception of the woman pressuring us to participate in the sales seminar and interrogating us about whether we were going to talk to other hotels. It really was very uncomfortable and felt like an invasion of privacy. Definitely not a good way to start our stay or gain my loyalty as a return customer. The resort as a whole was beautiful with great views but you could tell they are slowing making updates and have only completed parts of it. It was frustrating and disappointing to find out on arrival that 3 of the 4 a la carte restaurants were closed for the "slow season", as well as the infinity pool due to maintenance. I understand we came during a slow time for the resort but it would have been nice to know which options would be available during our stay for those of us who try to plan ahead. Nowhere on their website did it specify some of the a la carte restaurants were seasonal. I was mostly just disappointed about the infinity pool because I had been excited for that experience. We booked a single king bed ocean view room but got a junior double queen bed suite instead. It was a nice upgrade but it was definitely more space than we needed. Again, it was clear that parts of the room decor had been updated while others had not - the couch cushions and curtains were a bit stained and the room had somewhat of an old, wet mildew smell to it (not surprising as is it a beach resort). Turning on the AC helped with the smell. There was an intense musty order in the dresser drawers, so we opted to just leave our things in our suitcase as to not transfer the smell to our clothes. It was clear the room hadn't been thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. There were stray clumps of hair on the bathroom floor and the mini fridge had not been restocked. The room looked much better after the first visit from housekeeping the next day. There was no welcome guide/binder with detail about the resort in the room, which isn't that big of a deal but could be a useful tool for those guests (aka me) who like to have information available without bugging the staff. It would have been really helpful to know the hours and dress codes for the restaurants and bars, or that they change the WiFi password once a week, or that there is a small convenience store near resort driveway exit (which we had needed but didn't find out about until the last night) just to name a few examples. We mostly ate at the buffet since there were only two options and we have voluntary dietary restrictions (pescatarian). The food was ok. What you would expect from a buffet. Unfortunately, we were only there during the week (Sun-Thur) and noticed the options and quality increased as we got closer to the weekend. The one meal we had at the a la carte restaurant was delicious but that particular night there weren't many options for us on the rotating menu. The bar staff was great but the options at the bars were minimal. The one time we made it up to the Sky Lounge, we were the only guests there and they had to shut down early due to the rain. The beach and pool (adults only) were great and my favorite part of our stay. I just wish the infinity pool had been open. We did not use the spa or salon, so I can't comment on those services. It's also a little weird they boast about not requiring bracelets but don't seem to have any security in place to ensure only guests are using the resort. They required room numbers at the restaurants but not at the bars or when using the pool. Anyone could have come up from the beach when a lifeguard wasn't present to hangout inside the resort grounds. It's a bit hard to explain but most of the time we sort of felt in the way and as if we weren't all that welcome - not by any one individual but just a circumstance of everything happening around us. I think it was primarily due to it being off season, however the sign of a great operation would have been for us to not know difference. If I had done better research before booking the trip, I would have found out the hotel had just changed ownership and most likely would have booked somewhere else. They have potential to be a great resort but currently have lots of kinks to work out. We were still able to have a great trip but it's unlikely we will stay at this particular resort again.

Not as described upon booking

Our stay at the Reflect Krystal Grand was overall enjoyable for our honeymoon, but not what we paid for or expected. Upon booking we called the hotel and we were told by booking for so many nights and reserving a higher priced room we would be qualified for a “complementary honeymoon package” and upon arrival to the hotel the front desk had no idea what we were talking about and also informed us that they overbooked our room and all that they available was a room with two double beds. After almost two hours of arguing with the front desk and talking with a cheap Caribbean representative they decided to upgrade our room to a swimout free of charge. The room we ended up with was absolutely wonderful, but it was a frustrating process. The hotel ended up giving us breakfast in bed, sparking wine, a fruit bowl, and a special turn down service but the fight to get it almost wasn’t worth it. We were also promised a “private beach side dinner” that we never received and a couples massage that we booked and used but upon check out they changed their minds and had no idea what we were talking about when we said it was included and they tried to charge us over $200. Thankfully they didn’t have any of our credit card information on file, but ending our honeymoon vacation being harassed for a so called complimentary couples massage was beyond ridiculous. As far as the actual resort only two of the restaurants are actually open including “The Grill” and the Asian restaurant which is only open for dinner. They also provide a buffet for every meal and is your only option for breakfast, and is mediocre at best. The bars are what you would expect for an all inclusive resort with the bar tenders free pouring everything causing inconsistency in the drinks, but that’s just me being picky. The pools and beach are absolutely wonderful! The sand is really soft on the beach and it’s relatively quiet. The resort was very clean and well kept, but most guests there were from Mecico so very few people speak English. This is a very family friendly resort so there were a lot of kids, which is okay, but it wasn’t exactly the romantic get away we were wanting. I would definitely return to Puerto Vallarta, but I would not return or recommend the Reflect Krystal Grand.

Nuevo Vallarta

Average experience, definitely not a 4/5 star resort. This location is in transition from one hotel name to another and it’s still not established as far as organization with staff and cordination with events. Works for travelers who are barely at the hotel or there just to eat, also for local travelers.
