Very nice hotel. It's pretty big. I stayed by the main party pool area so you have to walk to the other side of hotel for the restaurants and beach. The buffet was great and many food options. All of the staff is very nice and helped me with whatever I needed. I checked in one day and my girlfriend checked in a day after me and they did everything to accommodate us. The rooms are very nice and big. Beds are very comfortable and AC is great in the room. Entertainment was great at the hotel. The beach had no seaweed but it can be rocky when you get into the water. Only thing is the food at the restaurants is just ok. Buffet was better. I would definitely come back to stay at this hotel again.
Really enjoyed my trip to the Platinum Yucatan Princess. Rooms were very comfortable. Food was better than average for an all inclusive (the buffet was a little bland which is typical, but lots of choices). Booze was better than most (captain Morgan, Crown Royal, Absolute, etc.). They make really good drinks at the bar located between the Italian and Japanese restaurant. Two fun swim-up bars were very enjoyable.
Amazing Customer service! Everyone was so nice and kind. The resort really made me and my husband feel welcomed and would check that we were happy with our stay. The second day we were there we decided to get a massage. The staff convinced us to add Jacuzzi And Sauna time that we could use at any time during our stay. Unfortunately, I got sick and was not able to do the jacuzzi and sauna part of our spa. I let the front desk know at check out but they said I would still have to pay for it. Overall it was a great stay. I would definitely go back.
Food quality was great, it was flavorful and even the buffet had plenty of variety daily. They had great midday snacks by the main pool. Drinks were also good, more potent than I’ve had at other all inclusive resorts. Rooms were clean and room service was quick. There were plenty of pools and they had fun activities by the main pool. The only con is that the beach had seaweed and looked overall unkempt. The ocean water also looked murky. That being said, we had a blast and would definitely recommend!

Is this the Grand Yucatan Princess?5 answers
4 years, 56 months ago
Virginia Beach
No. This is the Platinum Yucatan Princess. There is also a Grand Riviera Princess, but we are unfamiliar with a "Grand Yucatan Princess." Please contact one of our Beach Experts at 1-800-915-2322 if you require further assistance.
BILLCC
No, there are 2 hotels on the Princess property. This resort is the newest and adult only resort.
shauncks
There isn't a Grand Yucatan Princess. Princess does have two with the word Platinum which can make it confusing.
(1) Platinum Yucatan Princess: Was built in 2014 next door to the larger Grand Riviera and Grand Sunset Resort. It is adults only.
(2) Platinum at Grand Riviera and Grand Sunset is an exclusive area of the Grand Riviera and Grand Sunset Resort.
DTBeachbum
No, that is the sister property (which allows kids)

Room location5 answers
Is it possible to have a room on the end that is beach front and not in the middle? It looks like there are 3 floors with 6 rooms across on the end closest to the beach.
4 years, 56 months ago
New Jersey
It is possible to request a room on the end. All requests are based upon availability at the time of check-in. The information sent is strictly a request and is not guaranteed. Rooms are not assigned until check-in, so there is no way to confirm exact room placement prior.
BILLCC
There are no rooms that are really beach front as the resort is set back a bit from the beach. There are several different buildings and options if you want quite/secluded or closer to the main pool with would be louder. There is a building closet to the ocean and I would suggest that building. There is also a pool with a swim up bar that is more quieter than the main pool at that building.
shauncks
You could possibly have an ocean view room, but not a beach front room as there are mangrove trees and nature preserves between the building and the beach. In the attached photo, the building with the diagonal stripes are the closest to the ocean.
Kassandra531
They give rooms based on the availability the day that you check in. Also, the smell of sewer gets stronger the closer you are to the beach, so I wouldn’t recommend a beach front room unless you enjoy that smell.
Shortstuffxx
You can't see the beach from any of the Platinum suites. The resort needs to update photos as there is a Mangrove separating the resort from the beach.

are there any smoking rooms in this property?9 answers

Clarksville, Tennessee
According to the resort's official website, smoking rooms are available. This info can be found here: https://www.playadelcarmen.com/hotels/platinum-yucatan-princess-adults-only-all-inclusive
BILLCC
Yes, there was a smoking area of the resort that had rooms available.

There is smoking on your balcony or patio, and pretty much throughout the resort you can smoke!
VBCouple
yes, they have smoking rooms.
RoninDallas
Yes there are smoking rooms.
KBtriptocancun
People were smoking everywhere except the restaurants.
If you don't like smelling other people's cigars & cigarettes, you may want to look for a non-smoking property instead.
I fall into that category, and it crossed my mind while i was there.

How long does it take to get here from the airport?5 answers
4 years, 56 months ago

About 45 minutes (for shared transportation) from Cancun Airport, maybe closer to 35-40 minutes if you have private transportation with direct airport to hotel transit.
ELAW
This resort is located one hour (60km) from the Cancun International Airport.
BILLCC
About an hour.
Scubastargirl
Around 40 minutes. However, your transport might stop at 1 or 2 other resorts, if you have additional passengers on your van.
RoninDallas
About 30 minutes direct transfer, longer if you have to drop other groups off on the way.

There are laws in Mexico restricting topless sunbathing, but we find they are often loosely enforced and at the resort's general discretion.

While I cannot make the claim as to if it was allowed or not... I can say we stayed for 5 days and in the afternoons of each day we did observe topless sunbathing. Some very respectfully, off and away from the general areas, others very "flauntingly" (as my wife stated).
I cannot say if they were informed that they needed to cover up or not.

Is the beach usable ? (at The Platinum Princess)5 answers
A few customer reviews have mentioned the lack of a really usable beach.
Has this been fixed?
4 years, 54 months ago
NYC
The beach has been cleaned and is usable.
SalCC
The Rui Palace Las Americas has two beaches. the biggest one was beautiful and very usable. i took a long walk along the shore and our beach was by far the best. The smaller beach was rocky and not usable. that is where they had goading activities.
Macdaddy
There was still a lot of seaweed and rocks, it was very hard to swim right in front of the resort!
VBCouple
Not unless you like rocks and seaweed.
Scubastargirl
The beach is beautiful to look at, but a little on the rocky side. There is a swimming area that is large that is roped off, I wouldn't suggest going past the area, as there were jet skis flying by from other resorts.
Kassandra531
How is the beach situation?5 answers
I see a lot of reviews who state that the beach was terrible (seaweed problem). I know this is not the hotels fault and probably hard to take care of, but since beach is very important to us, I want to ask if anything has been done about that/is it still bad? before I book?
4 years, 54 months ago
Alba
The beaches were gorgeous. For our entire stay we did not see any seaweed until the very last day and that was only after it had rained very hard the previous night.
Macdaddy
The resort sits on a pristine stretch of beach and takes care to ensure it is well maintained. The beach is cleaned regularly of any seaweed that may be around.
SalCC
This is not the best place if you are a heavy beach user.
They did a good job with the seaweed but there is a lot of coral in the water so swimming/wading was difficult.
Pools were very nice and swim out rooms were very nice.
We walked along the beach but that was about it.
They do have nice beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach so they do have a great setup.
KBtriptocancun
We just got back, and they did run a tractor to pick up the seaweed, after 8:30am we didn't see any seaweed on the beach whatso-ever! As you wade out into the ocean it is a little "rocky" as you get to about knee hight (This was in March)
Iwilson
The waves wash the seaweed up every day I was there and it was really bad and smelled AWEFUL but after 5 days being there I finally saw workers working at it on my last day (I stayed 7) seaweed wasn't being washed up and the beach water was so beautiful and Crystal clear but still seaweed was laying on beach from what washed up earlier in week

What are the "extras" that come along with booking a platinum room?5 answers
examples: room service, massages, drink service on beach, etc.
4 years, 54 months ago
Wisconsin
In a Platinum level room category (must say Platinum in title), one will have "access to the Platinum Lounge, which offers goodies like a 24-hour concierge, DVD Library, international newspapers, unlimited Internet, an exclusive continental breakfast area, a la carte restaurant reservations area and discounts on golf and water sports."
CCGreg
The most noticeable one to us (a couple who thought about upgrading, but didn't) was the location of the platinum rooms and the pool features. The location was much closer to the beach and directly across from the majority of the restaurants. Unfortunately, this made it not as private because people were frequently walking by to get to those things. If you get a swim out room, there were beds on the opposite side of the pool from your room which seemed like a really nice feature. You also got a less crowded swim-up bar. If you got one of the rooms on the top floor, you might have a better chance of seeing the ocean thanks to the location. Some of the rooms on the top floor had hot tubs on the balconies which seemed like a nice feature since it wasn't a swim-out. Not sure about other upgrades or amenities.
beachlover1368
I do not believe you get a lot more in terms of extras but the rooms are in the side of the resort closest to the beach, has a quieter pool, separate lobby, slightly nicer room decor. The party pool music can be a little much so I preferred the Platinum to the Deluxe.. but otherwise you have access to the same stuff. Most of the amenities (restaurants, gym, spa, beach are in the Platinum building)
BGandLNL
There are swim out pools and then some suites on the top floors with jacuzzi tubs. Not sure which one is the platinum but room service is included in every package as well as drink service by the beach. There are waitress but the pools and beach taking drink orders.
Mfields
There are no extras. Just a bigger room

Areito is a great place to dance and socialize and stays open until 2am. local and international drinks are included as part of the package.

I didn't personally go, but another couple there mentioned there was probably a dozen people at the disco during the weekdays, and filled up more over the weekend. Drinks are likely included since drinks are included all over the resort.

Yes, you need to make arrangements in advance for shuttle to the hotel. However, this was relatively easy.

If you don't purchase transportation in your package, then you will need to purchase some kind of transportation to and from resort
Connie7867
no you will need to pre arrange a ride to and from airport it’s about a 45 minute ride. You can do so through cheap caribbean, I did and it was $100 round trip for 2 people. Don’t get a taxi at the airport they rip you off, I’ve been ripped off by them before. If you book a ride through cheap caribbean they will be waiting for you in a blue flowered shirt and anyone will direct you where to go, it’s really easy.

Does Adults Only mean nudity?10 answers
Is nudity allowed or expected?
3 years, 46 months ago
Curious
Adults Only does not necessarily mean nudity or risque. However, there could be nudity; usually this can be found on the beach, not at the pools but will depend on hotel policy.
CCGreg
NO! On one day in the pool a woman asked if she could take off her top and the bartender said yes. There were two women who went topless but that is it.
MarieV
Yes
heidi837
Adults only as in no kids, not allowed to be nude here
Knightly82
I never saw nudity except during the foam party on Saturday. Still it was only one super drunk girl that took her top off. It was not normal by any means for the resort.
AlishaA90
Nope, no nudity that we saw. On the beach there were a few topless, but they did not walk around; strictly sun bathing.
RoninDallas
There was no nudity. There are dress codes in the restaurants but no nudity that I saw anywhere else.
Binder2016
This is not a clothing optional resort.
At least, not at the main pool area.
Nudity is not expected and we did not see any.
KBtriptocancun
No. It just means no kids. We saw zero nudity.
XTACO
I saw a few women with no tops while I was there. It was totally acceptable.

Is there a show or some kind of entertainment every night?
3 years, 44 months ago
Lisa
Yes there is nightly entertainment.
bthornton
yes
mpita
Yes, but some are pretty simple, like casino night or bartender competition (like the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise.) They also had an indoor show at 10:00p each night. We did not attend those. Out favorite show was the Cuban band.
RoninDallas
Yes! Sometimes 2 shows.
Mfields
Yes, though to be honest some are cheesy. The outside shows were nice, the shows in the theatre were...meh.

Which rooms are quietest at night?5 answers
Does the entertainment in the disco bother you in the 5000 Deluxe rooms at night?
3 years, 42 months ago
Buffalo, NY
Generally they try to keep the entertainment from bothering the rooms at night. However, this can vary depending on where your room is located. You can always request that your room be on the quieter side of the resort, but this is not something we are able to guarantee.
JeannieCC
Not even close. You can barely hear the disco outside the disco itself.
Seawolf79
No

Building 5 is our pick as it is super quiet!

Does one have to make reservations for restaurants? If so, then are they made daily or can it be done upon arrival?
How many restaurants have an upcharge?
3 years, 41 months ago
NJ
Reservations are required only for some of the restaurants. Generally this is something you can arrange at the time of check-in, however it does depend on occupancy levels. You would need to discuss with the front desk. As far as an up-charge, this is usually dependent on the items ordered, not by restaurant. The only exception is Sky Lights, which is not included at all.
JeannieCC
They have restaurants that requiring reservations but it can be done daily. Only one restaurant has upcharge. It is a nice rooftop restaurant, great for special occasions.
Smartyyy
Only one restaurant has an upcharge -- Skylights, not worth it in my opinion. The TAO and the RODEO grill both require reservations but can be made on your day of arrival. If you are in building 5, you priority for reservations in the lobster cages outside. Fun experience, I recommend it!
rgcchunter
There is one restaurant (the asian grill) that you will need to make a reservation. This is done day of, and 15 minutes before the first seating. We arrived 30 minutes before and were about 10th in line. Other restaurants are walk in ready - men dress code of pants, closed shoes, and collared shirts. No upcharge for any restaurants except the skylights restaurant - however we did not dine with them durring our stay.
Iwilson
You can make a reservation daily starting at 530pm when the restaurant opens. There is one restaurant on the premises that costs extra. Rodeo Grill is included but if you want to sit outside in the nice circular booths, there is an upcharge ($35 USD I believe). The house wines are included at the restaurants but are not very good. You can get nicer bottles for an upcharge.

Unfortunately this resort does not have a disco or club on the property, however there are places nearby that do.
JeannieCC
It has a disco that did have dancing and music, also has a night bar that has live music, and dancing.
Iwilson
There was a club but it was completely dead! The two sister resorts that you can also go to may have one, not sure. But I'd say no for the Yucatan.
Sandie474
there is a disco/bar on the resort but it was quiet every night (under 10 people). The disco next door at the sister ppty is a bit busier (25-50 people per night). The sports bar at the sister ppty was busy too.

TimCC
They have different shows every night and plenty of bars. If you can survive the endless drinks during the day until evening you'll have plenty of options
Kkj62004
There is night life at this resort. There are shows in the theater, dancing in the main plaza, and parties in the night bar. There are also many night life options in the neighboring Princess resorts which you are allowed to attend! We had a great time as 24 year old but also saw 50 year olds having fun at the parties! Great for all adults

Is it too rocky to enjoy? Someone stated there are so many shells and rock they cut their feet? Is this all true?
2 years, 28 months ago
Debbie
This can vary based upon currents, weather, time of year, etc. If this is a concern, we do recommend bringing water shoes.
JeannieCC
Yes it is you can not swim at all and very dirty
Milagros
Yes the beach is a little rocky but not to cut your feet.
Tirana2008
I would definitely bring water shoes of some sort to protect your feet. The beach is pretty and the water is nice, but there are a lot of rocks/shells when you walk into the water.
wifeofbrian
It is rocky with some seaweed which they clean up, if you wear water shoes you should be ok, there are less rocks further down the beach in the same complex but that part isn't adults only and is much busier, it's a nice place, also the pool has loose tiles which can cut your feet so I would wear the water shoes in the pool too. I know I probably don't make it sound that good but we came back last week and had a great time, I would recommend upgrading to a swim out room
