Miserable Experience

This resort is not a place I can recommend. Our room was without electric half of the time. There was never hot water in the room and the cold water didn’t even work all of the time. The worst part of the trip was that I ended up getting food poisoning. I have never been that sick in my life. The beach is super aggressive with local sales people. You cannot walk down to the ocean without being harassed by 3-4 people trying to sell you things.

OK Overall but ultimately a dissapointment

We had been to this resort years ago and really enjoyed our stay. We decided to come back and were ultimately disappointed. We had the regular package, not the exclusive club. Pros: Full bar, great bartenders. Absolutely no complaints here Beach - very nice beach, great weather. Unfortunately, if you aren't in the exclusive club seating is limited. Exclusive club seating was widely empty most of our trip as well. Cons: Service - service was shockingly poor. Our room was bug filled, we called to complain and they sent us bug spray that was some knockoff that didn't even work. In order to sleep without getting eating alive with mosquitos, we had to go and buy Deep words spray. Food - the food was terrible. We have been to all-inclusive places before so our standards were not set high. We get the drill. That being said, the lunch was absolutely inedible. The last two days we ate bread. The dinners were better, however they don't give you access to the best places. We decided to pay for one of them the final night and my girlfriend got food poisoning; not great. Recap : Overall, we had a decent time. I would not recommend or ever come back, they treat you terribly and make no attempt to fulfill even basic hotel requirements. A huge letdown from what this place used to be.

It was good because it was vacation

I wouldn't stay at this resort again. I've been to others that were bigger, with more food options, and more sights to see. The tiered services (regular, vs reserve, vs royal service) made the whole resort feel smaller. It basically gave the feeling that you were at a very small resort that shared restaurants and a lobby with two other very small resorts. I didn't see the rooms of course, but i was not jealous of the "royal service" sections and am glad I didn't pay for them -- just looked like nicer beds on the same beach, and one additional restaurant. Next time i'd go somewhere larger.

What's to Love

All-inclusive everything: the cocktails, the grub, the utter luxuriousness of it all.

The adults-only Royal Service (boutique hotel w/in the resort) with a private pool & Bali beds.

Releasing your kiddos to the 7,800 sq. ft. Kids Zone with a climbing wall, trampolines and more.

The stress-ousting treatments at the spa and the uber-relaxing water ritual area with sauna/steam.

Getting your killer workout on during the salsa, bachata and merengue classes.

The AAA 4-Diamond restaurant, Passion, with the world-renowned chef, Martin Berasatgui.

What We'd Change

It's true that the resort is pretty spread-out and requires a good bit of walking. But the landscaping is lush and extra space means crowding is not an issue.

Why You Should Go

Only 25 minutes from the airport so you'll be hunkering down with a chilly cocktail in a flash.

Free greens fees at Cocotal Golf and Country Club. Subject to availability. Cart fees apply.

Wave after wave of water sports. Everything from sailing to windsurfing to kayaking. Dive in.

For some fun on dry land, you can hit the tennis courts, or take it down a notch with paddle ball.

Expect epic entertainment - there are workshops, sports and leisure activities out the wazoo.
