Caution when booking!
This particular resort had many drawbacks, but the main ones were that you had to take a golf-cart to get to the beach and the (front desk) service was TERRIBLE. We were placed in a room that was moldy, dirty, cold and the front desk staff was rude and slow to fix this issue. When trying to make reservations for restaurants, we were told that everything was booked however when we would walk by those restaurants, they would be empty. We voiced our concerns to staff members who said, "they don't really care now, they have your money already". That being said, the pools were nice and the beach was okay. I MAY stay at one of the Principe resorts that are beachside, but it's highly unlikely that I would return again, Mexico has many nice resorts to offer and this just didn't hit the mark. Lastly, be prepared that resort is over an hour away from the airport in Cancun. SO, if you do choose to stay here pay the extra for a private car or it will take you 2 hours of ground transportation time.
The resort wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either.
Few things that effected our stay:
- We were under the impression this was a water front property from the photos but it wasn't.
- We were told we got an upgrade to our room and have a butler but we didn't
- The room smelled like mildew
- Our bed frame broke the moment we walked into the room and sat on it
- Our shower door wouldn't close
- No one told us the amenities on the property so it was like a scavenger hunt trying to figure out what we can and can't take advantage of.
- The resort was at least 30 minutes from downtown Tulum and a minimum fare of $25 each way.
It wasn't a bad stay but I don't think I would recommend it
As soon as we arrived they at first only had a room with one king bed and the cleaned a room with 2 beds while we waited. The room was comfortable and spacious and I liked the fact that there were no carpets in the room. I stayed in the Sian Kaan adult only complex. We never met our Butler but the employees we met were very friendly and helpful. The minibar was stocked with plenty of bottles of water, 4 sodas, 2 beers, and 3 personal bottle of hard liquor-rum, vodka and whiskey.
The Al a Carte food option that is open 24hours is buffet style from 12pm-6pm- when we got there a couple of hours the food had been sitting in the warmer and the food was sometimes cold and the rice hard. The best food was breakfast because they had an omelette bar that was fresh. The spaghetti sauce was used at the a la carte and buffet was the same batch and very salty. Room service the first night brought me cold fries, they didn't have ranch for the salad. I complained regarding the cold food and the next night I got fresh hot fries. I was there for my birthday they decorated our door and left a bottle of champagne, and box of chocolates that my sister thought was missing a few in the box smh.
We booked an excursion with a lady affiliated with the hotel. Changed our minds because we found a better deal, tried to cancel and they would not refund our money. Do not book your excursions through the hotel.
Overall I loved the hotel, it was beautiful, and peaceful.
The grounds of Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an (Adults only) are absolutely beautiful, lots of walks through the many three-story condos with trees, flowers, and bushes all along. The pools are nestled among these as well. Unfortunately, the resort is 1 hour 45 minutes from the Cancun Airport.
The room was nice, but sparse; unfortunately there was no dresser and a very small closet for clothes. We kept most of our clothes in our suitcases. The bathroom also had no place for toiletries.
The beach for Adults only was reached by trolley from our resort to the Akamul Resort--about a 10 minute ride. Trolleys go regularly to the other resorts (3 of which are located on the same jungle-like, beautiful grounds.)
Unfortunately the adults beach only was very loud, with aerobics being led by one of the young leaders. It was impossible to read and relax, by the beach. There was always something going on. We walked down along the family beaches, and they were relatively quiet--but no place to sit under an umbrella.
Specialty restaurants were pretty good, but the ones we selected were a trolley car ride away. The seafood restaurant was the best. (Unfortunately the dress code was never enforced at the restaurants we chose. So,while we felt it would have been a pleasant "night out", men came in in shorts and t-shirts, even caps and flip-flops.) Our pleasant nights out were just like any other meal, except we dressed up a bit.
The buffet at our resort was nicely presented and the food was a nice variety. However, the hot food was always, at best luke warm, and sometimes cold, even with the heat burning under them. Service was good, we had a favorite place to sit with a great waiter, and were lucky to get it almost every time we wanted it.
The alcohol served was top drawer and service was good at the bars.
All in all a nice experience, but it was way too far from the airport.

Where is this located?10 answers
I am interested in this resort, but cannot seem to place it on a map to determine proximity to its sister resorts. I am looking to use the beach as part of the all inclusive package and would like to know how far this resort is from the beach?
6 years, 75 months ago
According to Gran Bahia Principe's website, it takes 15 minutes to get to the Gran Bahía Príncipe Riviera Maya Resort Complex.
The Sian Kaan has a shuttle to its beach on the other side of the road. The properties have a bridge over the highway which provide access to the properties.
The beach is a 5 minute shuttle ride from the resort.
This resort is across the Highway from the other resorts. It is a 10 minute tram ride from the beach. The Sian Ka'an beach is exclusive with a bar and service on the beach. There were always chairs available when we were there (last week).
The resort is not located on the beach. You need to use their trollies to get between the resorts and beach. The trollies come every 5 minutes. It was no problem to get around at all.
It is across the main highway, but the carts take you to the beach in 5 minutes or so from the lobby of Sian Kaan.
Beach to resort is not an issue as the cart pick you up every 5 min to go to the beach
the resort is about 15 min south of Puerto Aventuras in Chetumal.
1 hr 15 min from Cancun airport. The resort is located on the golf course. The hotel provides a golf cart transfer to their private beach across the road. It takes about 10 mins on the transfer. I personally think it is the best resort out of the 4 offered. You don't even miss being directly on the water!
You get a golf cart but it take about a minute to get there. They pick you up every 5 minutes. Muc nicer thatn the other resolrt that are right on the beach

hello im interested on this package, but which is the final price using the promo code?

6 years, 75 months ago
The price on your package is determined by the cost of your airfare from your particular airport, on the day you book your trip for your travel dates. The prices are subject to change due primarily due to the constantly fluctuating price of airfare. The only way to determine the actual pricing on your trip would be to process through a booking on our website, selecting your airport, number of passengers, etc. On the page that lists the excursions/transfers which are available for purchase you will see a blue border on the bottom of the page. Within that border is a small area where you would add the applicable promo code. When you go to the next page, the total price of the package will be displayed. Good luck and thank you for considering CheapCaribbean for your vacation travel!
The flight is included.

Do mock bookings on cheap Caribbean.com and it tells you how much.
How much does golf cost6 answers
How much does golf cost?
6 years, 75 months ago
the resort offers in their all inclusive package unlimited green fees (for travel through December 23, 2012).
Green Fees are waived for guests of the property but they charge $80 per person for the carts!?!.... so in reality, it costs $160 to play.
Green fee is free; cart costs $80 per person.
Free golf, fee for cart however
Just went from Jan28-Feb4 the golf was $80 USD per person for the cart.
250 for two players which included rented clubs.
Are the room really only 50-60 square feet?8 answers
6 years, 75 months ago
The information we received from the resort is incorrect. We are confirming the square feet of each room category with the resort and will update our website accordingly. Thank you!
We had the junior suite (the smallest available and it was larger than that. For two people, we had plenty of room. You won't want to be in your room much, anyway.
The room I was in was about 200 square feet.
NO, they are an adequate size
The room was about 300 sq. ft. It was a second floor with balcony.
The bath was probably7x9, the sitting area 10x12, the sleeping area
12x12. The penthouse rooms are much larger.
Our room was 300 square foot. All the rooms are the same. The bathroom is 75 square foot. Where di dyou hear 60??
No way. That's about as big as the bathroom. My Garden Suite was probably 600 square feet. It was bigger than my studio apartment in Chicago, IL.
our room had plenty of room - have a sitting area too, with a patio.
Not sure where you saw that but it's BS, the penthouse is a bit bigger but they are like a good size hotel room, not cramped or nothing. We had the penthouse and my sister had a junior, it was adequate.
I see that the golf is free at the Riveria Maya Golf Course (with this special offer) but you must take a cart.8 answers
How much per person to take a golf cart?
6 years, 74 months ago
Per the resort's website, golf car rental is approximately 230 USD. Please do keep in mind that this is just a quoted price and can change at any time.
$80 per person. I heard someone say this to someone else after they played the course.
No green fees, but for 9 holes, the cart fee is $35 a person. It was more expensive for 18, but I don't remember that price. We brought our clubs but ended up not golfing at all.
I believe cart rental is $80. per person.
I did not golf, but was told by a fellow who did that it was $80/person to rent and was required.
80 dollars for cart in morning, 65 in afternoon. Club rental 45. Food and drink is extra at club, not all inclusive.
Total is cost us for the free golf, $250 for 2 people which included rental cllubs. However, it was the funnest and scenic golf course I've ever played.
I met a couple people who played 9 holes ever day and they walked. Didn't rent a cart.

how far is the gran bahia from the airport (CUN)?11 answers
5 years, 67 months ago
This resort is located one hour from the CUN airport.
110 km or about 60 miles
It is about 1 hour away. I would recommend including transportation in the package you are purchasing otherwise it will cost you more if you try to find transportation at the airport. We used Olympus tours and had a very good experience. They even give you a private travel agent who helps to set up tours and expeditions.
It is 100km (60 +) miles from the airport. About an hour
It takes a little over one hour if you are the first stop, and up to 1.5 hours if there are other tourists to be dropped before you (can be 2-3 stops). On the way back it took us two hours to get to the airport because at one resort the tourists to be picked up were a no-show, and late at the next one, and the driver had to wait at both resorts more than normal.
My trip was about 1.5 hours by van with two prior stops.
about an hour. only bad part of the trip
It took us about 1 hr down and 1 hr and 15 minutes to get back to the airport
We got to airport at 11:30, got to hotel by 1:30. It is a ways out. Leaving our flight was at 12:30 they picked us up at 9:00am.
It will take at least 1.5 hours to the resort without traffic or stops at other resorts along the way. It is shared transportation.
If you do shared transfers I would say it took us about 1 1/2 hours to get there. I would definitely recommend private transfers so you dont have to stop at a million other resorts on the way to/from the airport. The drive is not bad though - just a straight shot down their main highway.
Are there jacuzzis in the Jr Garden Rooms?5 answers
5 years, 67 months ago
The Superior Junior Garden Suite rooms have a jacuzzi outside on the private terrace.
In the Superior Junior Garden Suite they are outside. Note they are semi private so we used ours at night. You can barely see the jaccuzi just past the bush in the photo.
The jacuzzi is outside on your private patio. It's great!
Yes there are but they do not offer any privacy. Then again, none of the jacuzzis do.
There sure are. I was upgraded to a Garden Room from a 2nd Floor room and we had a jacuzzi. All the garden rooms I walked by had them.
Who can I contact to schedule dinner reservations prior to my trip?4 answers
at other gran Bahia properties usually there is someome I could e-mail to submit my requests.
5 years, 63 months ago
You may contact the hotel directly by phone 011 (52) 984 875 5000 or email email@example.com
We did not contact the resort to schedule dinner prior to our trip, but you can probably contact the hospitality desk. That doesn't seem to be necessary, because we able to make reservations upon our arrival at all the restaurants we were interested in.
I just went to their website and found their email address under the contact page. It was easy - they do take a couple of days to respond though.
I sent my request to the attention of Brisa
My parents have been to the Sian Ka'an 3 times and they do not allow booking dinner reservations prior to arrival. I do recommend booking as soon as you check in, they fill up fast.
Can you walk from Gran Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an Don Pablo to the beach?10 answers
I know that there is a cart that will drive you to the beach but according to google map the walk is approximately 15-20 minutes and I wanted to know whether walking is a safe option.
5 years, 61 months ago
The beach is stated to be across the street from the resort. We do not see why you would not be able to walk to this facility but CheapCaribbean always suggest to take precaution and to use the services the resort is providing to you.
Thank you and have a great day!
Yes you can. It's definitely a hike. I didn't see a single person attempt to walk from GBPSK to the beach or any of the other resorts the entire time I was there. Just watch out for the trams. I don's think I'd try it at night without a jogging strobe light.
Safe but not necessary. The trolleys come pretty quick
You can absolutely walk. Gran Bahia has its own bridge that goes over the main road. It is a long walk but if you enjoy walking, it's very nice. No complaints on the whole trip
NO, unless you enjoy a long walk. I would recommend the tram. The resort also offers small golf cart service if they are not to busy.
You could - you would be safe. But I didn't see anyone trying to walk it. It is way too far and large bridge to walk over too. The shuttles are always running. You will walk plenty.
You can, and I wouldn't feel unsafe if I did, but there are a TON of shuttles, so why would you? You can get on Youtube and there are several people that have posted videos of the ride to the beach on the shuttle to give you an idea.
No. But don't you worry about it. The carts will take everywhere, and the trips are awesome. My wife and I actually enjoyed the rides and you get to know people. If walking is your thing, then you don't have to worry about being safe. there is security everywhere. As far as I know Bahia Principe actually has homes, apartments, lofts, etc for sale. So everywhere you go, there is protection.
The walk is fine safety wise but for us it took about 25 to 30 minutes.
Wear really good shoes if you are going to....it's like 3/4 mile
Is there a pool?9 answers
I don't see any comment about a pool, is there one on the premises? Thank you for your assistance!
5 years, 61 months ago
There are 3 pools and one dipping pool
Yes there are several smaller pools. One is a quiet pool and another is an activities pool.
The Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an does have a swimming pool and fresh water pools.
Yes, one by the sushi bar (sushi is limited but good) and the pool is amazing! small with jets. Has beds there too!! the other two pools are good. have some games and one is by a beach bar that has books you can read too
there are 3. all have different entertainment at times
5 pools - We used the activity pool mostly. But they have some that are quite too. Then TAO has the workout pools with fresh water in them.
Yep - 4 pools. Two are super quiet, suitable for reading/sleeping. The other two are more active with cocktails and volleyball and such.
There are two pools that I know of. They are super relaxing. My wife and I went to one of them and it was nice and clean and "empty". There were only 3 other couples that were getting a tan. Only two people were in the water. It was so quiet that we had to whisper. :) Enjoy!
Sian Kaan has 4 pools, well 1 is just a foot deep.
Does the Junior Garden Suite offer 24/hr room service? I see all the others list it in the room ammenities, but it does not say that with this room.5 answers
4 years, 60 months ago
The Junior Suite Superior Garden room does not offer 24 hour room service.
Yes. It's not a huge list but adequate. Great place to go!!
I emailed the resort to ask about this and they told me each room had access to the 24 hr room service.
yes all rooms have 24 hour room service and the cafe is open 24 hours too.
Is there a gym at Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an?6 answers
I am going to be there for 8 days in July .
4 years, 57 months ago
boston , ma
Yes this resort has a gym on property.
gym is at TAO - shuttle will take you there - less than 10 minutes away
not a large gym - I did yoga and the class that followed every day that we were there, not open on Sunday. They have some awesome lap pools - fresh water in them. I got an hour massage there for $90.
A lot of opportunities to get exercise at the activities pool. We spent our mornings at the beach at Hotel Tulum.
No, There is none. You can take the shuttle to Tao Center(about 5 minutes) or you can walk there( that what I usually did in the morning). And the gym is very very small in a quiet and beautiful location.
There is a gym at the TAO Center, you just have to take a shuttle to get there.
There are gyms on all 4 properties, but they are very very small and have limited equipment.
Not at the Sian Ka'an but at their sister hotel Coba and Akuml which is 5 min trolley ride away they have one .
Are the jacuzzi suites private?5 answers
4 years, 57 months ago
Yes. Private enough to be intimate. Have fun.
For more information please call us at 1-800-915-2322.
We just left this resort and were very satisfied with the accomodations. Depending on where you are on the resort would determine your privacy with the jacuzzi's. We had the penthouse and it was not as private as we would have liked it to be. The lower level suites had trees that surrounded the jacuzzi's that made it more private. Overall I thought the resort was wonderful and the staff was great!
No, It is not private. I had one on third floor and I can see my neighbor's jacuzzi to my left and another on the ground floor (even though I had never seen any of my neighbors).
Just got back. Jacuzzi suites on the top floor of each building are private. The ones on the ground floor have tall plants around them and are less than private and looked barely/never used.
Not so much. Get extra towels and you can block off some visibility in the penthouse suite roof areas. If you are on the ground floor no privacy at all really
Should I book excursions now online, or wait until we get there? Better deals at hotel?4 answers
4 years, 57 months ago
You certainly can book excursions on property. Resorts tend to have a wider variety, however you may find a better deal if you book them ahead of time.
The hotel was booked, so I would not wait. Need to make dinner reservations in advance.
Before you book with your reservation company go to the resort and go to the pool bar area at Coba. You can get a trip to Chicnetza for 2 for about $5 US more than a single individual through the tour operator.
It really depends. We booked one excursion online, and the other at the resort because this one wasn't a cheapcaribbean-sponsored one. I would say book your big excursion (like Coba Maya) online, and a minor one (like the Snorkeling) on-site. It'll probably be cheaper.
Sian Ka'an has a snack bar and bar at every pool with in a very short less than 50 yds walking distance. The beach is across the highway but shuttles run every 10 minutes and they take you to your own private beach that is adults only with your own bar. You can also take the shuttle to anyone of the other three Bahia properties, you can go to any other resort and get food and drinks but they can't come over to the Sian Ka-an.
Need protective footwear for the beach?3 answers
Is the water off the beach rocky enough to justify packing swim shoes (or aqua socks or whatever they are called?)
4 years, 56 months ago
It is hard to say if the beach will be rocky or if you will need protective wear, everyone has a different sensitivity to certain things. You can contact the resort directly if you would like and ask them specific questions that would fit you. Their email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Yes, bring them with you.
any of the beaches in Riviera Maya will have some rocks but overall the Gran Bahia resort beaches are really quite good. I see no need for beach shoes and would save the room and weight in your luggage unless you plan on taking any excursions that would require them.
Adult only?9 answers
Is this an Adult only hotel?
4 years, 55 months ago
Yes, they have 3 other properties on the same expansive complex that cater to families but the Sian Ka'an hotel/resort part is adults only.
Yes. This is an adult-only hotel.
Yes, adults only. This is one of four Bahia properties and shuttles run between them all. It's not on the beach, but on the Riviera Maya golf course. Sian Ka'an guests can go anywhere on all four properties, but guests at other three cannot come to Sian Ka'an. We rate this property excellent.
Sian Ka'an is adults only. You can visit the sister properties, which allow kids. Sister properties guests can't visit Sian kaan.
Yes, adults only and mostly a European influence of guests. A lot of smokers at the resort and the beach.
Yes. The sister resorts are mixed family with some adult only areas.
Sian Kaan only
How early do the shuttles run to the beach?9 answers
4 years, 55 months ago
Every 5-8 minutes
For specific questions regarding resort information, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist you. The email address found directly on the resort's website is email@example.com.
Shuttle service from Sian Ka'an starts 7:00-7:15am daily.
Tons - they come every few minutes. Then the ride is maybe 5 minutes. Don't not book this hotel because you are worried about shuttles, they run like clockwork.
shuttles begin running 6:30 a.m.
They start at 6am and run till 2am. About every 10 minutes. Your never waiting very long.
The shuttle buses run from either 6:00AM or 7:00AM til 2:00AM.
Shuttles run fro 7am to 230am
Every 10 to 15 minutes very efficient
Shuttles to beach7 answers
How EARLY do the shuttles take you to the beach from this resort? 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM???????
4 years, 55 months ago
Shuttles begin their service at 7AM.
The shuttles start at 7 am
Shuttle service from Sian Ka'an starts 7:00-7:15am.
Either 6 or 7 am. The earliest we caught a shuttle was around 8 but I'm pretty sure I remember reading they began earlier.
7am is the first shuttle to the beach.
Shuttles start at 7am. When we were there in mid August, we were fine getting seats on the beach as long as we got down there by 9ish
We tried to get to the beach earlier one morning but they trolleys don't start up until 8 am. So unless you are at a resort on beach you can't get there until 810.
What are the current dining restrictions for this resort? Are you able to easily get into the a la carte restaurants?8 answers
4 years, 55 months ago
Dining restrictions are subject to change at any time, so you would need to inquire on this upon check-in at the resort.
Dining restrictions are pretty low key, I thought too low key at times. Yes, the shuttles run about every 5 minutes.
You can go to an a la carte every night if you want to.Be sure to make as many reservations in advance as possible though, they can fillup
Highly suggest you email Brisa the Sian Ka'an customer service rep prior to your trip with your ala carte reservation requests. The wait at the desks can be long. Reservations are required and they do fill up. Her email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org. Long pants required at all resort ala carte restaurants for guys, but not closed toed shoes. The food at all three Sian Ka'an restaurants (buffet, Alux, Maiko) better than any dining option at other three properties.
You need to make reservations the day you arrive. They book up quickly. Alex and Tequila are great.
Make reservations ahead of time, otherwise it will be difficult to get a preferred time. The buffet restaurant is fabulous and does not require a reservation.
The first day we arrived we scheduled all of our dinners for each night. They book pretty fast so if you try and do same day reservations you will not get a reservation at all. The food was amazing so I would suggest planning your activities during the day to make your evening dinner reservations.
I emailed the resort a couple of weeks before we left to make our dinner reservations at the a la carte restaurants.
Book anytime available and show up earlier or whatever time you like to eat. I was told "oh we are sorry but at that time (730pm) is booked, we have a ten o'clock". I take the ten o'clock reservation, but show up at 730pm and find the restaurant with plenty available tables and we would be seated. FYI we didn't like any of the restaurants. Food was awful!!
Are their floats at the pool, or should we bring our own?7 answers
4 years, 54 months ago
I didn't see any type of floats in any of the pools
Sometimes there were floats, but mostly not. Suggest bringing your own if that's important to you.
The resort would not provide these, so if they are needed for you and your traveling companions, we would recommend bringing your own.
You can buy floats at a kiosk next to the pool at Tulums, one of the sister properties. I didn't see floats at Sian Ka'an...
There were a few noodles floating around, but I would bring your own if you want to be sure to have some
My sister purchased one on site, and it was $8 US, so I recommend buying one before you go. There are none available for use
They are not provided.
We are going the end of October, will I need a light jacket at night?6 answers
4 years, 54 months ago
The average high and low temperatures for October in this area are 87 and 74.
Would suggest taking a light jacket. It has been rather wet lately.
Not at all! My boyfriend and I visited at the end of November, and the weather was perfect. I basically wore only bikinis and summer dresses every day, and I have extremely low cold-tolerance! I don't think the temperature dipped below 80-degrees on any one night. So October may be even warmer, but probably rainier.
we just returned and did not need a jacket. In fact it was still quite warm so I would pack cool clothing for the dinners and evening activities
Average low temperatures in October and November are around 75 degrees F. I think you'll be fine without a jacket.
Even tho it is cooler at night there still is no need for any jackets as it is still warm out.
Do they serve food at the pool and the beach?8 answers
4 years, 54 months ago
There are snack bars at every pool at Sian Ka'an, and snack bars located throughout beach, but they don't come to you to take your order. Its self serve.
Food is available at the snack bar near the pools. Good quality and variety. No food service at the beach.
The resort does offer snack bar areas where food may be ordered but the resort does not offer beach service for food/drink.
Yes they serve drinks to you on the beach. There is a bar right at SK beach and waitress services to most reserved spots. As far as food, there is a restaurant close by with a buffett for breakfast and lunch.
At the pools, they do not serve you drink or food, but the bars and restaurants are very close by (less than 1 minute walk).
I would suggest getting a BUBBA Keg for your trip before you leave. Best $20 you will spend on the trip. No probelms getting them filled at any of the resorts.
Yes there are snack bars at both. Burgers, fries, fruit, ice cream, etc.
There are 3 pools at the main area of Sian Kaan and then another pool at an area off to the side. The 2nd pool in the main area has a snack bar at it. It is open 24 hours - good food, but a better selection at the main buffet. The other pool that is off to the side of the resort has a sushi bar at it, but not a great selection. maybe 4 or 5 rolls to choose from. There is no actual service AT the pools, so if you want to eat, you would have to get up from your seat at the pool and walk to a table at one of those places, but these pools aren't huge, so its not a big deal to just walk over there and grab some food. No food at the beach other than nuts to snack on. Or if you want to walk to a sister resort and eat you could do that. But we found those pretty crowded.
They have snacks like pretzels, nuts etc. at the beach and there is a snack bar right next to two of the pools within Sian Ka'an.
Yes, they have a 24 hour food court right next to the pool. There is no beach at the Sian Ka'an, but the shuttle runs constantly and will take you to 3 sister resorts that are all on the beach. They all have food near the pools and on the beach. Some have swim up bars too.
Does the resort offer free internet service?9 answers
4 years, 54 months ago
Yes! This resort offers complimentary Wi-Fi in the lobby and rooms. If you have further questions regarding what this resort includes, we recommend contacting CheapCaribbean directly at 1.800.915.2322.
Yes, we had free wifi in our room and around the resort.
Yes it does, but it's not great. It worked for us cause we didn't come there to serve the internet all day.
They do have free wi-fi at Sian Kaan. However, it is spotty, and after a couple of days my phone would not connect to it for whatever reason. If you absolutely have to use data I would recommend purchasing a data plan from your cell company. I would not rely on the wifi here.
Yes, in the room and in the lobby. Also there is free access in the other 3 hotel lobby
Yes there is free internet
Only for 24 hours.
Low speed WiFi and for us only one device was allowed in at a time, so to use another device you'd have to log off the other one.
are you allowed to smoke on the grounds, at the bar, at the pool, etc?9 answers
Both my boyfriend and I are smokers and want to be sure that the hotel is open to allowing us to smoke in the open air areas.
4 years, 54 months ago
Yes smoking is allowed in all the outdoor facilities. Try out the cuban cigars!
Yup. People were smoking at the beach, at the pool, etc. But please be courteous to nonsmokers. :)
While most resorts allow smoking in all outdoor areas, we suggest contacting the resort directly for further clarification on your inquiry. You can e-mail the resort directly at email@example.com. You may also call us at 1.800.915.2322 for any resort specific questions you may have prior and after booking your vacation package with us!
You can smoke most places at the resort. The pool and the beach both have ashtrays available. The only place we found you could not smoke is right outside of the buffet restaurant. But there is an open air lobby/entertainment area not two or three steps away from there with plenty of ashtrays.
I believe there is no smoking in the rooms, but the open areas are fair game
I am not a smoker but I did notice a lot of smokers on the beach, on the resort property so you should be good. I think you can smoke everywhere except the restaurants and maybe lobby
yes, smoking on grounds I permittable
Yes absolutely ! We smoked even on the train cart driving us to the beach !
Yes in open area just outside the inside lobby and around pools

Are the other resorts included during midseason?3 answers
I was under the impression that if you stayed at Sian Ka'an, you could eat at and enjoy the other resorts on this property. (Akumal, Coba and Tulum). I read on a website that during midseason, from December to April, this isn't the case. I was planning on going during March. Does this mean I won't be have access to the other resorts and their restaraunts/bars?
3 years, 48 months ago
According to the resort's website (https://www.bahia-principe.com/en/hotels/riviera-maya/resort-siankan/all-inclusive#anclaMenuSecciones), the All-Inclusive includes all the services of Grand Bahia Principe Tulúm, Akumal and Coba, except Club Hacienda. However, for further information or specific questions regarding this inquiry, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist. The email address from the resort's website to contact them directly is email@example.com.
We were there in December and age at the other resorts. But reservations are required and they fill up quick.
We had access to all the resorts last week.
Are there Bali Beds on any of the pool or beach areas?5 answers
Many resorts are adding the luxurious Bali style beds on the beach areas these days. Can anyone who has gone recently confirm if Bahia Principe has added this nice feature?
3 years, 38 months ago
This resort does not currently have any Bali beds on the beach or by the pool.
no there were just regular beach chairs.
I just went there in June and I can say there were no beds in the Sian Ka'an private beach or the surrounding beach areas. Just your typical beach chairs.
Not at the Sian Ka'an, but at the sister resorts they have canopies with lounge chairs, but not balanise beds.
has anyone in a powerchair or scooter traveled to Sian Ka'an?2 answers
The resort shows as accessible but there are some questions I have. It is not on a beach, but there is transportation- is there a way to transport the wheelchair? it can't keep up to the trolleys and that leaves us walking with her so she is not left alone.. how long would this walk be?
are any of the 4 pools at Sian Ka'an ramped?
Thanks in advance.
2 years, 33 months ago
The resort's website had the following to say regarding their hotels and accessibility:
"The [Grand Bahia] resorts in Jamaica, Tulum, Akumal (in Mexico), Bávaro (in the Dominican Republic), Costa Adeje, San Felipe and Tenerife (in Tenerife), are adapted for the disabled."
They do not specify about the pools being ramped. How far of a walk would depend on room location. You can always request a room closer to the main facilities / beach / pools, however, these are just requests, not guarantees.
There are no elevators for the rooms so you must purchase a Patio Room which in my view is the best anyway. The resort is for the most part ramp accessable however I don't recall seeing any ramps for the pool entrance/exit..
The trolleys are not wheelchair accessable so if you are wanting to go to the shopping area or the beach I would strongly suggest staying at Coba, Akumal, or Tulum. There is a Coba Premier that is very nice also on the beach side which would likely be your best option.
Adult Pool/Beach2 answers
Is the beach or pool area topless optional? Also, are there many women wearing thong swimwear?
2 years, 28 months ago
This resort required tops to be worn, as it is the law. There were women in thong swim suits though.
Please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information regarding sun bathing around the beach/pool. Their international phone number is: (01152 to dial out) 984-875-5000.
What is the Average Age of Guests?4 answers
We are in our early 40's and enjoy low key but do like to socialize with others. Hoping to find out if there will be others in our age bracket or many older as we have read.
2 years, 26 months ago
The resort does allow many age ranges to stay at the resort, however, they have a youth/spring break policy: No groups of students under the age of 18 or "Spring Breakers" are accepted year-round.
YES! Great opportunities to socialize as much or as little as you want. An abundance of couples most of which are in their 40s I may guess. No lack of fun people and socializing.
The adult only hotel is very low key. I would say the average age is mid 30's and up. However visiting the other hotels owned by the hotel the ages vary from infant and up.
Very good mix of 35-40 plus all the way up to retired older folks but wasn't a nursing home by no means...

Is topless/European sunbathing allowed at the pool and the beach?5 answers
1 year, 22 months ago
Hello, not at this resort. For further assistance to find the right resort for you please contact us directly.
Call one of our U.S. based Beach Experts.
7 Days a Week - 5am to 3am EST
No topless is allowed
I don't think so. Even though it's an all adult place, I didn't see anyone going topless. I didn't see many people getting drunk either, which amazes me since all inclusive, includes drinks. I think it's more of a relax atmosphere and people just want to get away from all the noise and actually just rest.
There are some adult beach areas and some ladies where topless. Didn't see that at the pool not sure if it would be acceptable at adult only pools.
Topless by activity pool only. People were at beach but unsure if this was acceptable

I have booked the penthouse suite with the rooftop Jacuzzi and paid the additional fees. How likely am I to receive the room I paid for?3 answers
1 year, 18 months ago
If you booked and paid for a specific room category, that is the room you will receive upon check-in.
Stair climb is a bit, the room is a bit nicer than the lower ones...the view is so so, they will come fill your jacuzzi for you 20-30 minutes ahead so call the butler service from the lobby before you go back to your room and it will be ready to use...seems like the mattresses are better in the penthouse.
email guest services at Sian Ka'an prior to your arrival and make sure to request the room you want.
How can I book an excursions before I get there?4 answers
1 year, 17 months ago
You can book excursions either at the time of booking your reservation, or up until 48 hours prior to travel with an existing reservation (though this would need to be done with an agent over the phone).
When you are booking your tickets you will have an option there . But I would not recommend in doing so because if you go to the grand Bahia resort , you can go to the Akumal beach and get deals from there which are twice cheaper !!! The went jet skiing for 75$ for both , so 30$ each basically where the package online was over 150$ !
With your tour operator. I would wait until you get there though to pick the best day for the specific activity.
Once you are ready to pay everything, you can book any activity with an additional charge. The excursions are not included. If you are not sure about what to do, you can wait until you get to the hotel. In the hotel are some agencies that will offer you plans. Usually if you use Cheap Caribbean they have an agency call Amstar. This agency will guide you with everything. Also, the hotel has a person who sells excursions. I scheduled my trips with the person person from the hotel.
Is there alcohol restrictions?4 answers
It says it's all-inclusive but then states "Wide selection local drinks, beer and soft drinks (premium drinks available at an additional charge)". What exactly does this mean? Are liquor based drinks not included - like shots perhaps? Or does it work on a shelf system like bottom shelf free but mid-top shelf extra?
1 year, 16 months ago
Generally it works on a shelf system with higher-shelf items coming at an additional cost. For a comprehensive list of available liquors and additional costs, please contact the resort directly.
Mixed drinks are include as would be shots I assume. I believe there talking about there wines mostly which they have for sale. They have table reds and white but charges for others.
They have a huge selection. What I noticed was if you wanted a wine outside of their 1-2 choices, you could then buy a bottle
Alcohol is included and there will be some mini-bottles in your room's mini bar. In the bars I always look at the menu to see what liquors are included. At Sian Ka'an all included alcohol is top shelf but you can pay additional charges for above the top shelf liquor. Grey Goose Vodka is included, Johnny Walker Platinum is not. We always drink our mojitos with Havana Club 7 year old dark rum--delicious--but you have to ask for it specifically. The house wines are just okay and they do try to up sell you on wine. The house prosecco/cava is excellent and is included. The only beer they have is Dos Equis.
Can you eat at all the gourmet restaurants in the different hotels? How about the other buffet restaurants?4 answers
We were there last year and ate at all the different restaurants. Just checking to see if the policies are the same.
1 year, 15 months ago
Guests get even more choice with complimentary access to the facilities at the neighboring Grand Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort Complex. Please inquire more with the resort. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
You can. Just need reservations for the non-buffet restaurants.
Yes you can! If you have the all inclusive, all of the restaurants/buffets are included. Only thing is you have to make reservations at the restaurants, the sooner the better!
As a guest at Sian Ka'an you have unlimited access to all of the Bahia Principe buffets and ala carte restaurants. You must make reservations at all of the ala cartes and there is a dress code. The best buffet food is in Sian Ka'an.
I heard the majority of people smoke. That is disgusting. Is this true?
1 year, 13 months ago
Please check with the resort directly in regards to smoking policy. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
There are more people that smoke than is typical in the United States, but the vast majority did not smoke. It can be a problem on the beach or at the pool but not a major one, and no smoking is allowed in the bar, buffet, or restaurants.
the majority of people who frequent this resort are not Americans--they are Europeans, Canadians, Asians etc. As a result there is smoking but only in designated areas.
Does this resort offer Gluten Free Dining?3 answers
I have Celiac Disease and must be very careful to eat strictly gluten free... even cross-contamination can cause me to be very ill. How accommodating of this request is this resort?
1 year, 13 months ago
We can certainly send a request to the resort, but for the most up to date information, please check with the resort directly. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
I'd say you'll have a few issues .. my friend is Vegan ( I know not the same ) but it was very difficult for him, and they don't cater much to or understand food restrictions....
they have a section in the buffet for gluten free only and the ala cartes ask if you have any dietary restrictions. Email the resort prior to getting there to let them know you must be gluten free.
Decent snorkeling from the beach?4 answers
Is there snorkeling off beach with anything to see? Reef or rocks with fish?
1 year, 12 months ago
They do have some snorkeling off the beach, however booking an excursion would guarantee a wider range of fish as you're unlikely to see as much where there would be so much "foot traffic" as it were.
Meh! So so, nice fish to look at.
you will see some beautiful and colorful fish at the beaches but the best thing to do is to take a collectivo to Akumal and go snorkeling in Akumal bay. You will see giant sea turtles in the grassy areas and then there is a coral reef with so much to see. You can swim out to all of it from the shore line.
You can snorkel right off the beach. They have roped off areas for swimming and snorkeling, so you can only go in about 5 feet of water. But we saw a lot of fish! The reef isn't exactly "beautiful" but it was still interesting.
Chairs and umbrellas on the beach?5 answers
After we take the shuttle to the beach are there chairs and umbrellas set up at the beach for the guests of the Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an?

Please check with the resort as they may be first come first serve. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
Yes, there are usually plenty of chairs and umbrella huts.
Yes. You don't have to worry about a thing. The beach is exclusive for people that are staying at Sian Ka'an.
yes there are chairs and umbrellas but I would get there early.
Yes, there are lounge chairs, palapas, and sunbeds depending on which beach you go to.
Suites and rooms5 answers
I would love to know what views are offered from what suites. Also, any jacuzzis in these rooms?
All of the rooms we offer have mostly basic views, which would usually be resort view. The Junior Suite Garden View, however, comes with a garden view. None of these rooms come with jacuzzis except for the Junior Suite Superior Penthouse, which boasts a private Jacuzzi on the balcony.
We upgraded our room for a low fee when we booked the trip. Then when we arrived, they upgraded us again. We had a huge room and a private patio with an outdoor jacuzzi.
If you look on Google Earth, you will see that Sian Ka'an is the part of the Resort that is on the west side of the highway. It is primarily jungle. We paid the extra to get the suite and we enjoyed it. There is no view of the beach from L.B.P. Sian Ka'an, but the view from our upstairs patio with jacuzzi overlooking the jungle canopy was nice especially at night. The entire property is available to use. And the beach area of this resort is beautiful.
Yes! Jacuzzis are only in the Penthouse Suites so you would have to select that room!
There are third floor rooms with rooftop Jacuzzis and first floor rooms with garden Jacuzzis--at additional cost. We always ask for a jungle facing room. Sian Ka'an is not on a beach so there are no ocean views.
What is the dress code for the restaurants? (male and female)5 answers
9 months ago
The restaurant dress codes are Long trousers for gentlemen, and for women things like sun dresses, etc.
Each restaurant is different, and when you make a reservation they print out a slip for you to bring to the restaurant. It tells you what the dress code is. Most are long pants for men and a button down shirt ( no tee shirts or flip flips) women dress casual, slacks and a nice shirt or a dress. Lunch buffet, you must wear shorts and a shirt unless you are eating at the 24 hour food court near the pool.
They say long pants for men and I wore them but most other guys were in shorts. As far as the buffet goes you can't just walk in in your swim suit. Guys need to wear a shirt and women a coverup for breakfast and lunch. I don't believe they allow that in the evenings however. Oh, and no ball caps in the evenings.
Pretty casual....no swimsuits of course but nothing super fancy
There is a dress code for some of the restaurants. Men must wear dress pants/slacks and collared shirts to the fine dining restaurants;women, must wear close toed shoes. Most all other restaurants on property are casual, shorts tee shirt and shoes. Make sure you make your reservations when you first arrive. You must have a reservation to all of the sit-down restaurants. Enjoy! We did.

is there dancing? or a nightclub?4 answers
6 months ago
While there isn't a nightclub on the property, staying at this resort includes free entrance to the discotheque at “Hacienda Doña Isabel” with local drinks and soft drinks included (premium drinks with additional charge)
The nightclub is in the center of all the resorts. The building is called La Hacienda, it has bars, shops, and entertainment until the nightclub opens.
There's a nightclub and casino in the market shared by the 4 Bahia Principe resorts. You can get there by the provided trolley - about 5 minute ride.
Yes, at the hacienda which is about 5-10mins shuttle ride.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
