Very Basic

I visited during Thanksgiving weekend, and it was quite busy. That said, upon arrival the guy tried to sell us up on the honeymoon suite. After saying no multiple times, he finally gave up. Restaurants almost impossible to get a reservation, service at these restaurants was absolutely terrible. Beach was nice, but near impossible to get a chair. NO SWIM-UP BAR!! Overall a mediocre place. Not as good as the reviews suggest, but not terrible.

Not as expected

First of all, not first time at an Iberostar. This hotel is not as advertised and fell short of expectations. Some of our group found their rooms very outdated and musty smelling. Our junior suite was a nice room but room service/cleaning was irregular and had to be called in to be cleaned as it was 5pm and still not cleaned for the day. There seem to be a lack of staff that understands English, including the customer service people who told us that things could not be done or dining was full only to have others in our group make the same request and get in to specialty dining. The buffet had a good assortment but was very bland, often not hot, and very repetitive. You could say it was food but nothing special or interesting. Table service was so/so at best. Hard to get drinks beside water and on several occasions even that was hard to get. Many of the server staff were spectacular especially the bartenders and the pool staff. Front desk staff was average at best. Some were very helpful, others were just not able to handle requests. Eg: Trying to get change for a $50 bill, no way to get change at 7:30 am to go on a tour. That is ridiculous. All in all, with better staff training, updating, better management, and some other corrections it may be a good place to visit but I would not recommend to anyone right now. p.s. half of the golf course was closed and there was no mention of this when booking etc. This was important to many of our people. No discount for this and many of the hotel staff did not know about it when we tried to make reservations.

Good hotel for the weekend

Resort is big and beautiful. The workers are very friendly and professional. The room was big and clean. Housekeeping will change the towels twice a day. The pool area is nice, however, there are bees and the pool was dirty at times with dead bees and bugs and no one was cleaning the pool. The beach is beautiful and clean. The worse was the food, no option to dine in the specialty restaurant cause it was full..the resort was empty and the mexican restaurant was close on Friday night. The front desk was trying to convince us to go to a timeshare meeting and then he said he will make a reservation for one of the specialty restaurant of our choice..we told me three times, not interested. Overall great hotel and place to stay. The food choices are horrible and they should really have more option besides just the buffet area. The night shows are very entertaining.

Not too shabby

Food was good. Everything was good for the price. Somewhat of a language barrier. Only complaint was that cheap caribbean told me to buy the tourist cards on a website to avoid long lines and I ended up wasting 50$ and on the airline they gave these to us before we landed and said that they were included in the flight.I did not really like sitting in chairs in the sand in the steak place. But overall beaches were beautiful and weather was great.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive escape on sands known 'round the world - the epic Bavaro Beach.

Saying buh bye to stress with a Shiatsu massage, Swedish sauna & facials at the spa.

Stoking your metabolism with aerobics, then destressing with yoga.

Releasing your beach munchkins to Lucy's Club while you enjoy a cocktail or five.

What We'd Change

Like most all inclusive resorts, there's a strict reservation policy for the A la carte restaurants. Still, the steaks at La Cana are worth the trouble!

Why You Should Go

It's 45 minutes from the airport. Don't get antsy, beach lovers. We see welcome drinks in your future.

There's a mangrove jungle walk with a mini-zoo for kids. Big kids might dig it, too.

You can tee off at the Iberostar Bavaro Golf & Club, an 18-hole golf course designed by P.B. Dye.

There's wave after wave of water sports: kayaking, windsurfing, diving, you name it.
