Punta Cana

This resort was amazing. Our transfer from the airport to the hotel was seamless. Since our $1 is to their $29 a tip goes a long way. We were greeted by a person at the resort to arrange our travel back to the airport. He also suggested some great inexpensive excursions. We chose the three hour spa in the ocean on a catamaran. He was very honest about the way experiences. The staff at the resort was amazing and very friendly. Like I said a tip goes a long way! The food was okay. The buffets food were often room temp or cold but the pasta station and the steak stations were great. The steak house was fantastic. Nothing required you to get overly dressed. A bathingusit for each day and an outfit for each night was more than enough. The hotel show each night was entertaining.

Fun in the sun

We went to Iberostar Punta Sana from 1/12/18 to 1/19/18. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted immediately and our names were checked and sent right to check in. Check in took a little while, but were greeted with smoothies to enjoy while completing check in. When we arrived at our room, we did not get the king bed that we requested,so we called the desk and had our room changed within 10 minutes. The room was clean, well stocked and well taken care of during our stay. THE FOOD: The specialty restaurants we thought were very good. The buffet was average to good but, always plenty of food. THE DRINKS: The mixed drinks at the pool bars are average and at some of the bars the staff does not speak English. We found that the best mixologists are at the lobby bar, not only do they speak English, but there is also a drink menu for you to choose from. The beer is average but will grow on you. THE BEST: We spent most of our time at the pristine beach. There was some floating seaweed in the water but, did not deter us from having our FUN IN THE SUN. FINALLY: The staff is fantastic at all levels. Concierge, restaurants, buffet and housecleaning. WOULD I RETURN TO IBEROSTAR? YES WOULD I RECOMMEND TO A FRIEND? DEFINITLY.

First and Last Time I Will Ever Visit This Resort

This was the third year in a row we went to the Dominican Republic on vacation. The first two years we stayed at the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar so I can only compare my experience at the Iberostar to the Luxury Bahia. All I can say is I was extremely disappointed with the Iberostar Punta Cana from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. At the reception desk we were assigned to a "concierge" that was supposed to help us arrange things or resolve issues during our stay. This was a total joke as she did not speak English. I was exhausted upon arriving and asked when checking in to go to the room and rest. She misunderstood and kept motioning us to follow her and we ended up by the beach with me carrying my winter coat with a fur collar and she pointed us to a buffet. She had totally misunderstood as we had not asked for food at all but just to go to our room! Then I told them I wanted to sleep in the next day but the front desk called us 3 times before 9:00A!. The refrigerator and AC did not work correctly in our room so had to have maintenance come and fix. They also had to come and fix the lock on our door as it wouldn't open. When I made the reservation, I added a note asking them to give me a room as close to the beach as possible for my rate code. What did I get? The very, very last possible row furthest back in the building from the beach. I had emailed in advance asking to make dinner reservations as a common problem I read was that they wouldn't allow you to make reservations at the specialty restaurants yet the restaurants were half empty at dinner time. They only allowed me to make one reservation by email. Sure enough, when I arrived, they would not give me the dates//times I requested for the other restaurants and sure enough, they were half empty when we walked by. The food at the buffet was ATROCIOUS! I literally lived on ham/cheese sandwiches most of the week. Most of the buffet food was very cold. Had a baked potato with one dinner at the steakhouse and it was so cold the butter didn't melt at all. The steak was at least 50% fat. The only good meal was at the Seafood restaurant. We wanted to take the free shuttle to the San Juan Plaza as I was told the largest drug store on the island is right next store and I wanted to get inhalers for my asthma. The front desk wrote down the 4 times for the shuttle so the next day, we got off the beach early and went to the lobby to catch the shuttle. At the lobby, and were told the schedule had changed and to come back the next day! I heard "I'm sorry" a million times during the stay from people on their staff. When I asked to speak to a manager, i was told he had left and wasn't coming back that night. No one is empowered to address any customer service issues. I was told there was wifi all over the property. Not true on the beach!!!! I had to go up by the pool or one of the buffet places to get access. Resort grounds are OLD and dark at night. I tripped walking more than once due to lack of light. Entertainment was similar to what you'd get at a cheap Las Vegas casino....a simple lounge act and not a very good one. The only good thing about this place was decent water pressure in the shower! The bathroom didn't even have air vents so the bathroom became very hot when blow drying my hair. On the very very worst day at the Luxury Bahia Ambar it is a THOUSAND times nicer than the Iberostar. I will NEVER go back or stay at another Iberostar again. Definitely not the value for the money I spent.

Absolutely amazing

I went to the iberostar Punta Cana with some of my friends for a 4 night stay and I was beyond pleased with the entire vacation. Having an apple vacation employee at our departure and destination airport was very helpful. We booked a shared transit, and it took around 40 minutes which was not too bad. It was a tad confusing walking to the parking lot, but everything worked out. Then when we arrived at the hotel everything was beyond expectation. The entire hotel is maintained beautifully. Beaches are clean, walkways are clear, the pool area is beautiful. We made reservations at the steak house and seafood restaurants and the portion sizes are very big. The food was fantastic! The staff at the check in counter, bars, and restaurants was also great. Now that the trip is over I cannot think of one complaint that I have for this resort. I would for sure book here again! So happy I chose this resort.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive escape on sands known 'round the world - the epic Bavaro Beach.

Saying buh bye to stress with a Shiatsu massage, Swedish sauna & facials at the spa.

Stoking your metabolism with aerobics, then destressing with yoga.

Releasing your beach munchkins to Lucy's Club while you enjoy a cocktail or five.

What We'd Change

Like most all inclusive resorts, there's a strict reservation policy for the A la carte restaurants. Still, the steaks at La Cana are worth the trouble!

Why You Should Go

It's 45 minutes from the airport. Don't get antsy, beach lovers. We see welcome drinks in your future.

There's a mangrove jungle walk with a mini-zoo for kids. Big kids might dig it, too.

You can tee off at the Iberostar Bavaro Golf & Club, an 18-hole golf course designed by P.B. Dye.

There's wave after wave of water sports: kayaking, windsurfing, diving, you name it.
