very good resort for families

We stayed at Iberostar Playa Mita for a week in August. We are a family of 3, with one almost 13yo. The resort itself is beautiful and expansive with literally something for everyone. We upgraded from a standard double room to an Ocean Front Junior Suite which was a very good decision. We had a king room w/a queen sofa sleeper that looked directly out onto the beach and was more spacious than the standard double. The room itself was OK. The furnishings are a bit dated and worn. (the bed however was very nice and comfortable). The bathroom drain was slow and overall could use more useful touches. However, the room was very clean and the maid service was excellent. I just wouldn't rate the rooms very high. But... the rest of the resort and *especially* the staff were fantastic. The entertainment staff (Star Friends) go above and beyond to make sure there are activities for EVERYONE. We loved the aqua fitness class with Victor and Oswaldo. The pool activities were fun to watch and participate in, and the daily salsa classes were a hit. One thing I especially appreciated was that there were always activities to participate in *if you wanted* but no one ever pressured you or pestered you to partake if you didn't want to. The pool is huge with enough space for everyone. We never had a problem getting a good spot at the pool or beach with shade. The drink service at the pool is excellent with attendants checking on you at regular intervals. Getting a drink by the pool was never a problem either poolside or at at the swim-up bar. The attendant at the beach was very good at finding you a spot and setting up an umbrella for you. The beach itself is very nice, the sand is not white, but a very fine grain grey and gentle on your feet. The ocean is just right for bobbing in the waves and we even saw manta rays playing in the waves on our last day. There are vendors on the beach but they are very friendly and not at all pushy. A simple "No gracias" and they move on. If you do want to buy something I found the vendors to be extremely helpful offering you a wide variety of choices. The small vending stand on the resort is another story. These items were terribly over priced and the vendor himself was very pushy and disingenuous. The food in the buffets was some of the best buffet food we have ever had. Definitely the best buffet of previous resort stays. We were thrilled to enjoy tacos, ceviche, and the excellent selection of salsas our entire stay. I realize many people may not to eat only Mexican food, but while in Mexico that's all we wanted! We only ate in the Japanese, Mexican and Steak House a la carte restaurants. They were all fine, but not spectacular. Tsuba, the Japanese restaurant was probably the best experience overall. The Mexican restaurant was a bit of a disappointment considering, but my husband loved his dish. Our preteen loved the buffet and Steak House - the restaurants are very accommodating to kids. The concierge and front desk staff were top-notch. We needed cash one evening as we were leaving for an excursion the next morning very early. The ATM was out of order all day but Hanz at the front desk found a way to solve our problem and in my opinion went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. Overall I'd rate the Iberostar Playa Mita very highly. The service, grounds, activities and staff make up for the lackluster rooms.

Beautiful resort

We were so impresssed with the service- everyone was so nice and helpful. the food at the buffet was decent, breakfast was the best. Some nights they had steak which was good. Milk for our 16 month old was not a problem, they even washed our bottle for us. Everyone says not to drink the ice or water there, but we did drink it and we had no problems. Actually between our whole family we tried a little bit of everything and had no stomach problems. The room service food was not that good, I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and the chicken was old and dry. The restaurants were good but you have to make your reservations for them ASAP when you get to the resort or you will not get to dine there. We loved the Japanese hibachi restaurant the best, great food and ambience. We recommend bringing a stroller for little ones, it is a walk from one side of the resort to the other. Renting a car from them or booking excursions was easy. Talk to Philipe at the front desk. We rented a car and went downtown with the baby with no problems. The beach was beautiful and there aren’t any other resorts near by so it was not crowded. We did not have anyone bothering us about excursions. The pool was great also, there were always ppl walking around taking orders for drinks. They had a crib available for our little one but we wish we brought our own pack n play to make it more comfortable, he was so out of his comfort zone and would not sleep in the crib even though it was a perfectly fine crib. We took family pictures with the photographer at the resort also. They did a great job. Overall we had a grand time and would come back to this resort.

BEST BIRTHDAY VACATION

My fiancé took me to Iberostar playa mita for my 23rd birthday. My best friend and her fiancé joined us. The resort took my breath away as soon as we got there. You are welcomed with warm towels and nice cold water. The rooms are all nice size clean and great. Service was wonderful!

Iberostar Great as Always

My #1 plus about this place was its size. We have been to several all-inclusives that are sprawling and we spend valuable vacation time just getting from place to place. Playa Mita is small enough that it doesn’t take much time getting anywhere on the property. The pool and surrounding areas were always clean and tidy. Everyone we came in contact with was super friendly. We had an issue with our toilet and after one phone call someone was there immediately to fix it. I loved that this place isn’t in a whole row of other resorts - it’s all by itself. The beach was very nice with water much calmer than I thought would be on the Pacific side. We were so excited about having a habachi experience at the Japanese restaurant but were a bit disappointed, mostly because we couldn’t get a reservation until 9:00. We had two young boys with us and because of where we were seated (with the chefs had to rotate around to the different tables) we were the last ones served and didn’t see any food until after 10:00. But they did provide a good show. We were a bit disappointed in all the specialty restaurants (good service but the food wasn’t that tasty)but found the main buffet quite varied and yummy, without ever having a line or a crowd. Sayulita is a fun little town a short (but rather expensive) taxi ride away. Again, everyone from the front desk to the cleaning staff was very friendly and welcoming. I have enjoyed every Iberostar resort we’ve visited but this may well be my top choice.
