Always a great "go to" place

This was my 3rd trip to this resort and I have to say it is the all around best location that I have visited in the Cancun area. The Iberostar has the best balance for the money as I have tried more expensive resorts that left me feeling I would have been better off at the Iberostar. They always have top notch service so we were never lacking on any of our needs being met. I cannot emphasize how important that is as the lack of addressing needs / issues can ruin what should be a great time. My wife and I took our four kids with us so we had a large crew and they had no issue putting our rooms next to each other. There is more than 1 massive pool to enjoy, a lazy river, and the beach is impressive.... as long as you like to battle the waves like we do. We were there for a full week so we did a few excursions like Xcaret and Xplore.... highly recommend Xplore if you have an active group of kids, ages 12 to 18. We also loved the shopping area as we went over there almost every night to enjoy the ice cream and snacks. They have a casino now which is great but I didn't get to enjoy being on a family trip this time. Honestly, the only minor complaints we have is that it is tough to get all the restaurants scheduled when you want them. We were not able to get into all of them we wanted because some were only available while we were off resort doing excursions. The quality of food at the buffet is good but it would be nice if they mixed things up a little more. There are not a lot of non-water related activities so on the few days it rained heavy there was not much for us to do. It would be nice to have a general game / entertainment room when you can't or don't want to spend your time in the water... pool tables, ping pong, etc. Overall, I highly recommend this resort for those looking to get a great resort at a very reasonable price. I have found, through over a dozen trips to Cancun, that it is hard to find exactly all the right elements of a perfect resort in one place but this comes the closest.

Planning to come back next year!

Other than seaweed on the beach, everything was wonderful. They were cleaning the beach daily, just the time of year for seaweed I guess.

Great hotel/ food quailty a bit low

The Hotel and surroundings are totally beautiful, lots of amenities offered< the employees are happy and eager to help you, the weakest link to me was the quality of food, particularly at the buffets, I have been traveling to Cancun Mexico for over 20 years and this is the area that has deteriorated on quality...Only 1 restaurant open after a certain time, so if your flight arrives late, you only have 1 option.again id like to say that the quality of the buffets was very low. Overall experience was good, they just need to improve the food quailty

Best hotel except for no chairs on the beach

If any of you are looking for a place to vacation or need meeting space in a lovely resort then this hotel might be for you. The Iberostar Maya in Riveria Maya Mexico. You fly into Cancun and it is about a 30 minute ride (on a highway) to the resort. There are 4 hotels within the complex and they each have their own facilities. This is an all inclusive resort with all your meals, drinks, nonmotorized water sports ( such as kayaks, snorkeling gear, catamarans) and gratuities included. It was a beautiful resort with a huge convention center on the grounds. . It also has a lazy river, a wave pool for kids (the waves are about 2 feet high) a small water park for kids, camp for kids, and very accommodating people who will go out of their way to help you. All the water on the resort is filtered so you don’t have to worry about getting sick. They upgraded us to the Oberostar Maya in a suite. This is the only hotel that has an elevator. The other hotels are just 3 stories high and about 30 steps between floors. My room had 2 queen beds, a jetted tub, a sunken living room with couch, coffee table, and desk and an outside balcony with table and chairs and a chair hammock. It was in building 65 close to the restaurants. They used golf carts to get you around the resort or you could walk but my sister and I both have bad knees and could not walk. There are flowers everywhere along with a jungle and little coatis (animals that look sort of like a raccoon with a big long tail) They never bothered you but were cute to look at. Each wing of this hotel has their own concierge. The concierge could do almost anything for you. They could make reservations at the restaurants, call a cart to come pick you up (took maybe 5 minutes for the cart to come), have something fixed in your room (no need to go to the front desk) give you your towel (no need to go to the towel shack), or just talk about what the resort has to offer. They learned your name and called you by it when you cam in for the evening or were leaving for the day. Our concierge gave us a rose when we left. They have a humongous pool. The water is anywhere between 4 and 5 feet deep. You could walk right in. it was a curvy pool not a square or round pool. They also had a shaded swim-up bar and you were allowed to use swim tubes, noodles or whatever in the pool. It was open until 8pm. Lots of chairs and palapas to sit under. We did water aerobics in the morning at 1100am and played games in the afternoon around 4pm. Although the pool area was crowded, we never had a problem finding a lounge chair to sit in. The beach was awesome. The first 2 days we were there the waves were like the ones at the Jersey Shore. About 3 feet high. There was also a lot of sea grass, but the workers were always raking it up. The next few days on the beach were perfect. No sea grass and calm waters. You could walk right in and stay forever. They had a great beach bar and food building where you could get hamburgers, hot dogs, fish sandwiches, salads, fruit cups, soft ice cream and nachos. The only thing that was not good was, if you didn’t get up early it was hard to find a lounge chair on the beach. Luckily my sister likes to get up early (7am). They have signs up that if you don’t come back to your lounge chair in an hour they would take your things away from the chair. No one paid attention to the signs and no one took your stuff away. They have 10 different restaurants. We ate at the Brazilian, Mexican, French, Steak House and Japanese. The concierge makes the reservations for you and we never had a problem getting a reservation into any of the restaurants. They also had a buffet One night we ate at the Shopping Center where we saw the Mayan Dancers. They have a Taco bar there and I ate true Mexican Tacos made with pulled beef. Yum. The shopping center also has a creperie, candy store for kids, carousel for kids, play area for kids, stores for souvenirs, casino, and spa. If you stayed at the Maya, the spa was free. The spa had a roman bath, sauna, 4 Jacuzzis that had jets in them that would massage every part of your body, a big salt water pool with jets for your shoulders, neck, knees, legs and arms. They served all kind of juices complementary. One night we took the shuttle (10.00 pp round trip) to Playa del Carmen. They drop you off on 5th Ave. This street is blocked off to cars so no worries. They have regular stores such as Sephora, Yankee Candle, Subway mixed in with the souvenir shops and restaurants. We ate at a Mexican restaurant, and of course I had to get tacos. One was spicy and the other was not as spicy. The souvenirs are 1/3 the price that the hotel sells them.Mexico is known for their vanilla extract. Here in the USA it is 2.99 for 1 oz and there is is 3.50 for 8 ozs. We bought vanilla for friends and family. This was one of the best resorts I have been to. It was hot and sunny every day. You could walk in the ocean or pool.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive escape-haven in the gorgeous Riviera Maya.

The beachy shores are very wide and deep with soft white sands & bright blue water.

Chillaxing at the five sunshiny pools with a lazy river and wave pool.

You can access facilities at Paraiso Del Mar and Paraiso Beach, located on the same property.

What We'd Change

The wave pool doesn't run continuously, so if you want to guarantee yourself a spot, get there in the morning. The truth is, when something is this awesome, it draws a crowd.

Why You Should Go

It's a zippy 30 minutes from the airport. Cocktails with beach views are calling your name.

A small train runs all over the resort, taking you to restaurants, lobby, rooms, spa and more.

Don't miss the endless activities - water sports, tennis, golf, beach volleyball & more. Game on.

Clubs for kids and teens keep the kiddos entertained. You can book much-needed spa time.
