Not what I expected

Went to Punta cana twice stayed at Barcelo So my review is in comparison to that. First off employees were far more happier and cheerful at Barcelo. Staff wasn't always eager to greet. Room was great. Food was poor. We stuck with fruits ice cream and starches anything that couldn't be messed up. The beach was more clear in Punta cana and much more beach to walk...granted we did stay here during hurricane maria and after irma so maybe water was mucked up. Drinks were way too strong and cheap liquor used. Cheapcarribean booked our flights back for the wrong day (a month out) however they did fix that issue thru email. Honestly i prefer bahamas!

Awesome Resort

Amazing resort. This is our 3rd or 4th time at this Iberostar Resort and we could not be happier with the visit and the service. The grounds and scenery are beautiful and always looked after by the staff. The food had a lot of variety at the Buffet and Restaurants. My favorite are the Mexican Restaurant and the Japanese Restaurant. Our biggest compliments go to the entertainment team, who worked tirelessly day and night to keep the guests entertained and happy. Huge thank you to: Wendy, Spaghetti, Banana, Erika, Fresita, Chocolatte, Salvador, Joel, and Cappuchino, They always had a smile on their face and treated us like family. They do an excellent job getting people involved in all the activiites and are extremely friendly and entertaining. As always this has been an outstanding vacation and we would recommend it to anyone! Iberostar is the BEST!!!

it was nice

This was the first time that I have ever left the country. Although I was 'scared' at first the staff here really made me feel at home. From greeting me once i stepped foot on the resort grounds to saying "hola, how are you" whenever they saw me. One of the bartenders would always offer me the drink he knew I liked and one of the chef's asked me if my girlfriend and I were okay after she got sick during service. The resort isn't that small but they definitely made it feel like it was. I honestly felt like part of the family! my only gripes was our room and the other guests. Our room had dirty sheets even after they were 'cleaned', blanket had a bloodstain on it and the sheets had what looked like a coffee stain. I would advise anyone staying here to unplug their personal devices from the outlets when you're going out. The outlets surges occasionally and it actually fried my iphone charger, haha. Now with the guests, my girlfriend and I are both Dominican-American, for whatever reason there were barely any people of color and rude Europeans would always spend several minutes staring at us. Whether it was at the beach, the pool, the dining rooms, and even while walking through the resort. It was really uncomfortable.... other than that, everything was great. Also, the steakhouse has the best food. try getting a reservation for that! El Colonial, the restaurant where you have to dress up was nice nice the people eating there seemed really stuck up. so there's that.

Excellent All Around

The resort was phenomenal. My friends and I didn't leave the place but we didn't have to. I would recommend bringing goggles, as we put them to good use observing the man-made reef off the shore. The water is shallow enough to walk out to the reef which was amazing! The largest pro about this resort was the food. It was phenomenal in every restaurant, including the buffet consistently. However, if possible, I'd recommend flying to La Romana or Punta Cana Airports as Santo Domingo is about two hours away.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, everything-you-want escape haven.

Chillaxing with a cocktail at the epic Lighthouse Bar that's right on the beach.

Destressing with a beachfront massage, Turkish bath & other goodies at the spa.

The sand castle building, mini-golf, horseshoes and more for the kiddos.

What We'd Change

The food at this resort is wonderful, but you may not be the only one feasting. The mosquitoes can really go to town here, so be sure to pack repellent.

Why You Should Go

It's about an hour and a half drive from the Santo Domingo airport. Nap time.

At the Aquarium, nearby, you can see aahmazing coral.

Don't miss the snorkeling/scuba at Dressel Divers Center - there's a fee, but worth it.

If you need an extra twin bed for a teen or little one, just ask - you can get one.
