Great resort mediocre food.

The resort was excellent. The staff friendly and helpful. The pool and beach beautiful. The only knock on the place was the food was mediocre. The surf and turf was the best restaurant. Make reservations before your trip. It is hard to get them once you arrive.

Happy Honeymoon

I would definitely recommend the Iberostar Grand Bavaro! This was the very best honeymoon experience we could have ever asked for. The service was top notch from the moment we arrived to the moment we departed. Everyone was helpful, friendly and accommodating in every aspect. The beach and pool areas were beautiful and calming and the resort was beautiful. The grounds were luxurious, well maintained and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. We could not have had a better experience if we tried. Unlike some of the other resorts on the island, the Iberostar was very calm, relaxed and exclusive. We did have access to the other Iberostar resorts on the compound but they were not able to come to our resort. It was reserved exclusively for guests, which we appreciated. Our personal butler, Hernandez, was amazing and accommodated our every need. He helped us to arrange a show at night, dinner reservations at all of the dining options, a romantic and private beach dinner and helped us reserve a couples massage and a round of golf. We would most certainly return here and would suggest this resort to anyone visiting the Dominican Republic!

Outstanding property

Great service, beautiful property, totally relaxing We booked our trip to Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro as a celebration event and for much needed relaxation. In advance of the trip we contacted the hotel to share this information and to also book our dinner reservations in advance. We arrived several hours early due to a change in our flight and were pleased that this had no impact on our check-in. We were greeted warmly, the process was seamless and concluded with a celebratory cocktail and we were off to our room. Our room was exactly as advertised. Large, spotless and with a wonderful view over the gardens and lagoon. We were almost directly in front of the ship / bar and were very concerned that we would have to deal with late night noise from other guests partying. We were assured it would not be a problem and it wasn’t. We had one night where we were able to sit on our balcony and enjoy live music and otherwise by about 10 PM every night it was totally quiet outside. Our butlers Melvin and Silvestre were always available, accommodating and cheery. They ensured that we had everything we needed- included our pillow menu- and how to get whatever we wanted if it was not automatically provided. Wifi was included and worked great everywhere we went on the property. What we cannot rave about enough was the preparation of the room done each day by Diana. Our room was fully decorated for my wife’s birthday including flowers, balloons, Thanks to our butlers for the Prosecco and cake.Diana made a cake out of towels! I haven’t seen anything like it before and it really added a nice, whimsical touch. Other days had nice touches of flowers, towel creations, etc. The property overall is truly beautiful and well kept. We spent most of our time at the pool and swim up bar. Drinks are plentiful and the other guests were friendly and fun. It is true that you kind of need to bring towels down in the early morning to save lounge chairs. To the credit of the resort staff (Thank you Anthony!!) they don’t let the Bali beds get saved for more than two hours. We were not there during a peak period so we weren’t really challenged to find great chairs, but I imagine this is a real issue when the resort is at capacity. The beach is beautiful as well and Tobias did an excellent job taking care of us. Water is nice and warm. Waves are almost non-existent or just big enough to have some fun playing in the surf. The pool was definitely the thing for us this trip and folks like Anthony made sure we were totally comfortable every day and Ricardo made sure we participated in just enough activities ( shooting and winning a round of Bingo was a lot of fun! ). At no point did we feel like we were forced to do anything that we didn’t feel like doing or assaulted by people on the beach to buy trinkets which we have experienced at many tropical get aways. Finally, a review of the food and staff. Overall, I would give the resort and “A”. You will not go hungry or thirsty nor will you find yourself eating something you don’t want or like. Some of the meats on the buffets ( Bella Vista and La Perla) tasted like banquet food and we simply ate other items. There was so much to choose from at every buffet and all of it really delicious that this barely registered as a minor inconvenience. The winners are the full service dinner restaurants. The food at Le Tourbillion, El Galeon, La Tentazione, Casa De Playa were all exceptional. There were no bad or even mediocre meals. Service was impeccable especially from Altagracia, Maria, Kelvin and Hector. What I have to stress here is that my wife has a severe shrimp allergy. This information was recorded by Melvin as soon as we checked into our room. My wife was given a note that she could show at each restaurant to ensure that their staff was aware and she would be safe. Hector even sought us out on our first day to make sure we were ok. To not have to worry about a food accident or cross-contamination was simply fantastic and we can’t thank the entire team enough. Overall, this vacation was superb. This was my first all-inclusive resort and the second for my wife. I would advise bringing some cash and leaving small tips ( $2-$5) along the way and your service will improve even more. We spent less than $150 in total tips over 6 days/5 nights. Would we go back? Yes and without hesitation.
