Iberostar Dominican

The overall satisfaction of this resort was pretty low. There seemed to be issues with service as soon as we arrived. Checkin is 3:00, our room wasnt ready until almost 4:00. The next problem was with our speciality restaurant reservations. We booked the reservations the day of arrival, and someone "forgot " to submit the requests. It took us until day 3 to get them. They activities we not well publicized so we missed most of the events. Room service was very late everyday. Our room wasnt cleaned until after 2pm. The buffet dining wasnt horrible but there didnt seem to be enough wait staff to keep up. But the very worst was the venders who literally harrassed us on the beach. At any given time there were 5 to 6 vendors trying to sell everything from clothing to boat rides. It was nonstop. We actually ended up avoiding the beach. The excursions we booked were pretty pricey and tipping was expected for the drivers, the tour guides, the individuals working at the event destinations...everyone had a basket out for money. And of course after every excursion was a sales pitch. Oh, forgot to mention the resort also pressures you to sit through a 90 minute time share pitch. I need to go home to relax!

Best vacation of our lives!

My husband and I just got back from our trip to Iberostar Dominicana. We may be home, but our hearts are still in Punta Cana. We can't say enough good things about how amazing our trip was because the words and pictures couldn't even do it justice. The grounds and landscaping were absolutely stunning. This is a large resort, and we loved walking around the property and seeing what care and detail was put into it. The pools are beautiful and huge! There are so many chairs and huts that we never had a problem picking out the perfect spot to sit back and relax each day. We were blessed with great weather. There was some seaweed on the beach and in the water on our first day (not enough to keep even me from going out swimming) but the next three days, the water and beach was perfectly clear, and we loved being out on the white sand and in the turquoise water! The entertainment staff was great! We loved the shows, especially the Michael Jackson show, and looked forward to those every night. We also enjoyed the food. We only had reservations one night, for dinner at La Cana (fantastic steaks!) But no matter where we ate, we found plenty of things we liked. Possibly the best part of this resort is their staff. Every person there, from the wait staff and bartenders, to housekeeping and the grounds crew, was friendly, and greeted us with smiles. They went out of their way to make this the most memorable trip we have ever taken. And for that we loved every minute of our stay and can't wait to go back!

Best vacation of our lives! Best vacation of our lives!

Beautiful, but sub-par dining options

We have been to Iberostar resorts in Mexico many times and loved them (including all the food options). Although the grounds were absolutely gorgeous at the Iberostar Dominicana/Punta Cana, the food was really sub-par. The food in the buffets was not kept warm at all, and the restaurant choices were not great We did have a decent dinner at the steakhouse, but be warned, they don't tell you ahead of time that you have to pay for the wine, and we got unpleasantly surprised with a $50 bill for 1 bottle of semi-decent wine. The beach was fabulous with crystal blue water, and powdery sand. But you need to get there early to score a seat with an umbrella! We did not go off the resort property, per advice from a friend who is from the DR, so any shopping was done on-site. The prices in the lobby store are quite reasonable, but you need to negotiate prices in the other shops. And the pricing of massages was absolutely ridiculous ($130+)! We pay less than half of that back home. All in all, it was a decent vacation, but we would not go back.

Punta Cana vaca

The resort really was great and the service excellent. The food was good and fresh. Although I understand they have to serve different people from different countries, there were plenty of “American” choices at the Buffett. The Mexican restaurant was our favorite and the all star was our least favorite. They do have the best beach in Punta Cana and the pool was clean and a refreshing break from the sun. Overall a fantastic vacation and we can’t wait to return.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive haven on beautiful Playa Bavaro. Swoon.

Teeing off at the Iberostate Bavaro Golf & Club created by designer P.B. Dye.

The babysitting service (24/7), Lucy's Club (4-12) & Teens Club (12+) - Adult party time.

Melting during a beachfront massage and vegging at the spa's Jacuzzi.

What We'd Change

Beach chairs and palapas go fast, so post an early-morning guard or, if worse comes to worse, snuggle down into that baby-soft, angel-white sand on your beach towel.

Why You Should Go

It's 20 minutes from the airport. Blink and you'll be there.

For scuba folks, there's onsite CDC, PADI, & Gold Palm Resort Diving Center.

After a swim, you can dry off with tennis, riflery, Petanque, horseshoes & more.

There's oceans of water sports: aqua gym, catamarans, kayaking. That's just to start.
