Already planning my next stay

Bavaro is beautiful and paired with the whole Iberostar experience makes it even better. The food was excellent, the staff were so accommodating and friendly and the whole resort is beautiful. It’s and amazing package for the money!

Not impressed

For the amount that we spent, we were not very impressed with this hotel. The food was awful, even at the “fancier” restaurants where you have to make reservations. I would say half the staff were rude to us, the other half were very pleasant. The beaches were beautiful and the pool was nice. The did a great job at the bar, drinks were usually very good! The staff when we first arrived were very friendly and helpful, but as time went on they weren’t quite as friendly. WiFi service was good. Finding a place for food between like 12:00 and 3:00 was hard. The rooms weren’t that great, beds were hard and it was either really hot or really cold.

Average overall, poor service

We booked with 3 families, each family with 2 small kids and stayed for 4 nights-5 days at this resort. The landscaping was nice but the water quality of the pools did not seem good because 2 and 3 yr olds got sick afterwards with red bumps and mild case of chicken pox. The buffet food was ok and often lacked basic items like ketchup. For breakfast, the omelette station was bad, it offered ham, onions and sometimes only tomatoes. No peppers, no mushrooms! Besides few people, many working staff lacked basic English and had to explain in spanish, especially for food and room service. In general, they did not show helping attitude. The bar service was little better. As for restaurants, we asked 2 days in advance and still could not get a booking! someone careless forgot to enter our name in the system! Finally, had to fight with manager to get 1 dinner booking. Overall, we did not enjoy the stay compared to other resorts we have stayed in past in Aruba and Cancun. I would not recommend this resort at (unless you get extremely cheap deal ok w/poor service), especially AVOID this if you have young kids!

Lovely beach, Nice Vacation

We returned from a week-long stay the Iberostar Dominicana on March 2nd. The Bavaro Beach area is beautiful with clear water and some of the finest sand I've ever seen. There was no seaweed problem during our stay. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The buffet food was good and plentiful although not exceptional. However, dealing with "Guest Services" and getting reservations for the specialty restaurants was a big hassle. We were only able to get into the Seafood restaurant which was over-rated and the Mexican restaurant which was very good. All of the bartenders and food services staff were great, very pleasant! We did tip the housekeeping staff each day as encouragement to leave us more bottled water. The guys who worked out front of the resort assisting with luggage and who shuttled us by golf cart were awesome! My complaint about the resort was with Guest Services in the main lobby. Upon check-in we were given $500 worth of resort credits. After checking in, we asked how to make dinner reservations and were referred to a man named Carlos who was sitting at the desk next to check-in. Carlos said dinner reservations was "closed" but asked me to hand over the resort credits so he could "validate them" and asked that we return at 9:30 the next morning so he could make our dinner reservations and return the resort credits to us. We were about an hour late to our meeting with Carlos the next morning and he was nowhere to be found. We were told by "Guest Services" that he only worked in the afternoons which was odd since we had been given a 9:30 a.m. appointment, and no one else seemed able to help us with our dinner reservations, (although the guy who sold excursions claimed he could help with dinner but once we booked an excursion, he confessed that he could NOT help with dinner reservations.) The employee at the reservations desk said anyone in guest services should be able to help with dinner reservations, so we went to the guest services desk and spoke with James N (I believe this was his name). He seemed unwilling to help but we virtually INSISTED he help us with dinner reservations and he begrudgingly complied. He was able to get us into 2 restaurants and promised to check on a 3rd reservation to the Asian restaurant and let us know, but he never got back to us and he was so unpleasant I dreaded talking to him so we opted not to pursue it. On our last evening, we went to guest services and encountered James N once again. We asked how we could find out what time to meet our return shuttle to the airport. James said Carlos was supposed to help us with that and we missed our appointment. He mumbled and grumbled, clearly ticked off that he had to help us and tried to claim he didn't know how to contact the shuttle service which, incidentally, was NOT TRUE. Once again, we insisted that they must have the shuttle service phone number somewhere since the Iberostar uses this shuttle company all the time. So he made a call and held up the phone so I could hear a recording and said, "See, they're closed." I refused to move on and INSISTED he figure out how to contact them at which time he walked over to another desk, retrieved a binder full of contact numbers, placed the call and handed me the phone and in under 2 minutes our shuttle time had been established. This man wasn't busy, he just did not want to be bothered and his attitude, along with all of the confusion surrounding dinner reservations, reflected very poorly on the Iberostar Dominicana. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and for the price, I would stay here again, but Guest Services definitely needs improvement and where did our resort credits end up?

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive haven on beautiful Playa Bavaro. Swoon.

Teeing off at the Iberostate Bavaro Golf & Club created by designer P.B. Dye.

The babysitting service (24/7), Lucy's Club (4-12) & Teens Club (12+) - Adult party time.

Melting during a beachfront massage and vegging at the spa's Jacuzzi.

What We'd Change

Beach chairs and palapas go fast, so post an early-morning guard or, if worse comes to worse, snuggle down into that baby-soft, angel-white sand on your beach towel.

Why You Should Go

It's 20 minutes from the airport. Blink and you'll be there.

For scuba folks, there's onsite CDC, PADI, & Gold Palm Resort Diving Center.

After a swim, you can dry off with tennis, riflery, Petanque, horseshoes & more.

There's oceans of water sports: aqua gym, catamarans, kayaking. That's just to start.
