Iberostar Cozumel - for scuba divers

My husband & 2 teenage girls wanted a smaller resort than the ones we have been to south of Cancun. We also wanted to see Cozumel. We chose Iberostar because of the worldwide reputation. What we liked: The resort staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a couple of issues with one room and they worked on them right away. The layout of the resort with the bungalows was very cute. We didn't feel like we had to walk a mile to get to the pools/beach or the restaurants. The individual patios with hammocks were great for hanging out. Pools and beaches were nicely kept. My girls went scuba diving and having Dressel divers right on site was very convenient. It was a little cool a couple of days but January is a great time to avoid the mosquitoes. What we didn't like: The food was hit and miss. Compared to other resorts, this one had the lowest quality of food that we have ever had. There was some good ceviche for a couple of days, but grouper was the only plentiful fish offering. We really like our seafood, so this was disappointing. The restaurant's dishes were underwhelming and service was lacking. Mixed drinks were also hit & miss depending on your bartender. There is an issue with the septic system design in some of the resort and there was a sewer gas odor in a few areas. We always make friends and have fun wherever we go. If the food & drink were better, I would recommend to my friends - especially those who are there to scuba dive.

Great vacation

We just spent a week at IBEROSTAR Cozumel. Our vacation was amazing. The resort was beautiful and the room adorable and comfortable. The wild life throughout it is incredible. They were also very accommodating. I’ve read reviews with them giving a hard time with dinner reservations and they let us have more than what people are saying. Just ask and if there are openings they will let you get more reservations. Yes the beach was rocky but it’s not a problem to use the pier to go into the water. While in there you swim with fish immediately. The food had its ups and downs. The breakfast and lunch buffets were very good. The beach grill also was good. The dinner buffets were okay. The restaurants were much better. Enjoyed all our dinners there. The service as a whole in all restaurants could have been better. Seemed slow. The part that made our trip was the entertainment team. The shows are fantastic. David, Juan, Christopher, and Eric were a joy and had us participating in everything that was offered and having a blast with all of them. They are a great group of people and so much fun!

Great place for quiet getaway

The resort overall was great. Every employee was helpful and always accommodating. The bungalow setting was so cozy. Winding paths through trees, flowers and peacocks. The beach was always clean and fun and the snorkeling right off the dock was great. The buffet food was very good. We were never disappointed for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The specialty restaurants were average. My only true complaint is the smell of sewage near the front of the resort. Because the resort is so remote, they need to process their. They do a good job of dealing with it and you do get beyond it fairly easily. All of this being said, we would go back in a heartbeat! And book through Cheap Caribbean. I can't say enough about CC. We had some weather issues and needed to make some changes. They handled everything and didn't give us any runaround. Every person we dealt with was great. Love those guys! and gals.

Iberostar Cozumel

Hotel was very good. Set in an atmosphere of trees and winding pathways to the rooms. Not located near the town and very tranquil. We enjoyed it very much. People were very friendly. The beach is sandy until you hit the water where it is very rocky and hard to walk. Needed to use the dock to go out on where they have a stairway into the water. I am not a pool person, so could not give a rating. My only complaint was that the airlines change our flights so that we did not have enough time to make it through customs. American Airlines, not the best... However, after some long discussions with American, they were able to change our flight back to the original schedule. Food for me was not overly impressive. Buffets were as all buffets, too much of not good quality. However, the breakfast was always good. The best place to eat fish is in town at a place called The Pescadaria de San Carlos. Not much to look at from the outside, but clean and nice on the inside. Fish typically, Red Snapper. You pick the fish you want from the ice chest just brought in from the dock. Excellent cook. This is a family run business and is where the locals go. Cerviche was fantastic. Stay away from the main streets where the ships come in. Food is typically fast and not authentic of the island. All and all, my wife enjoyed a relaxing stay.
