Never Again

Went to this resort with a group of 10. Upon arrival we were told the did not have the reservation for 4 of us (2 rooms). We had to wait 3 hours for them to find rooms for the 4 of us. They were able to get us rooms at the Grand Bavaro which was quite the upgrade. But, since we went as a group we spent most of our time at Bavaro with the others. Majority of the employees here were rude. They would spend more time talking to each other and ignored us when we would try to get drinks or pay for goods at the store. The food at buffets was subpar. We all got sick at least one day while there. On the last day one of the group even got food poisoning and had to be rushed to the hospital. The employees seemed to be more upset that he was sick in the lobby. They even denied that it was food poisoning after we had proof from hospital.

Great vacation trip

All about this place is grate! The service is top notch. The rooms are spacious and clean. The room service is exceptional. A big shout out to the management that makes every guest's stay comfortable and memorable. The beach is beautiful despite some seaweed (which is constantly removed by dedicated staff). Fun entertainment for all ages and tastes (days and evenings). The only area that need a slight improvement IMHO is the buffet dining. It lacks variety of choices (in comparison to its next standing sister resorts). Although all a la carte restaurants we have been to were good (Italian, Steak house, Japanese and Mediteranian)! Thank you and we will most likely be back at this place again.

Ehh

I have been going to the Iberostar resorts in Dominican Republic since 1998. While it is still a good resort, I've been nothing a steady decline in quality. This particular visit I went to the Iberostar Bavaro in Punta Cana. As soon as we checked in, we were tricked into sitting down with the concierge. We were told we can do our restaurant selections now. Right when we sat down he was trying to sell us on some type of time share package. He want us to listen to a 45min presentation. Mind you, we literally just checked in, haven't been to our room yet, and been traveling all day. Didn't appreciate that at all. The food was good...not bad and not fantastic. Specialty restaurants were great with great service. They toned down on dress code for men, which I like. You don't need to wear pants anymore. Nice shorts are suitable. The buffet was good as well. There's something for everyone. The resort is nice, but it's starting to show its age. The pool was always dirty. Algae was all along the pool walls. Pool floor was dirty, littered with sand, and trash. The pool bar was awful. Infested with bees. The poor pool bartender kept on getting stung. So going to the pool bar was not an enjoyable experience. The pool and pool bar wasn't a good enjoyable experience. The beach was excellent. They did a great job maintaining beach, raking up seaweed, and plenty of chairs, they were adding more umbrellas, which were damaged from the hurricane. There were a decent amount of small annoying sand fleas though. The rooms were clean and nothing bad to say about them. House keeping were good. The customer service was good, not great like it use to be. At times the staff appeared to be distracted with their cellphones or just engaging in conversations with other staff members. The energy and enthusiasm isn't what it use to be with the staff. Usually customers get a gift left in their rooms. Usually a small bottle of rum, and a fruit platter. They don't do that anymore. I asked for an hour extension to check, and mohemed at the front desk charged me $20... I'm wondering where that money went to. Then they charge you a dollar to weigh your luggage. Seems very petty, after spending a decent amount of money there on a vacation. If you never been to Iberostar or other equally rated resorts, you'll think the the place is great. If you been here before, you'll be disappointed.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive on the all-awesome Bavaro Beach.

Lucy's Club for the kiddos - sand castle-making, face-painting, movies & more.

Chilling with collagen treatments and Thai massages at the stress-defeating spa.

The disco "DC-6" that's styled after an airplane & the DJ that spins tunes in a cockpit.

What We'd Change

This place is seriously gigantic, but we love that golf carts are available for getting where we need to go.

Why You Should Go

It's 30 minutes from the airport - your dreamy Dominican escape will kick in before you know it.

You can enjoy privileges at the other two Iberostars - Dominicana and Punta Cana.

Dressel Divers is right on the beach - get your scuba on.

There's a casino where you can hang with Lady Luck - don't keep her waiting.
