First Time with Bahia

Grand Bahia Principe San Juan! This was our first time to DR and i think we made a great choice! I will start off with all the Pros for this hotel. The staff was great, very accommodating, very friendly, and overall wonderful. The room was nice, very comfortable and had a nice view. I would recommend doing some updates to the rooms thats all, some fresh paint and furniture. The food was good, just wish they had more food pertaining to the culture and the island. The food at the Italian restaurant was mediocre, they need to the change menu there. The Japanese place was excellent and the buffet but like i said more island food. I would also recommend the snack places in between meals have lighter fare items rather than rice, chicken, etc. Possibly more items like sandwiches and snacks like chips. As for the alcohol i would recommend less sugary mixes for the drinks. Some drinks were entirely too sweet and required a bit more alcohol to be tolerable. The pool was beautiful and i enjoyed my time hanging out there and in the pool. Didn't go to the beach much because the water wasn't the prettiest. We did do excursions and saw the beaches outside of the resort which were beautiful. I would also recommend a better music selection. Staff played music from laptops but seemed to not know what kind of music to play. The only unpleasant experience we had was the staff in one of the snack places before dinner time. They did not great us or come to the table at all until we were almost done but did go to the table next to us. Spoke with Waldy and Robert in guest services and they agreed to deal with the issue right away. Other than that I would definitely recommend this resort and I would definitely go back!

Don’t waste your money

For a family resort, there is NOTHING TO DO. The food is horrible. All the leftovers are always mixed in to the fresh food the next day. I have an 11 month old baby and was shocked when the manager at the day buffet told me I cannot bring any food for my baby to the room. I had to argue with him that my child can’t always just come and eat there. Sometimes babies have to eat in the room. Instead of a crib I requested, I got a broken dirty nasty pack and play without a mattress. Had to put down blankets and pillows for him to sleep. Very disappointed DR. In the many resorts we’ve stayed, this by far is the worst.... the pool and beach are clean, on a good note. Loved that you didn’t have to be VIP to enjoy a cabana by the pool. The rooms were clean. But would not come back.

Pretty good stay

The staff is pretty friendly. The good was amazing. Went during the Christmas holiday and they had a big feast prepared. Lots of options to choose from. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Only issue I had with this resort was that it was very far from the airport (about an hour and a half away.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive bundle of beachy goodness for the whole clan.

The Relaxing Caribbean Massage at the spa - spoiler alert: they use bamboo.

Sinking deep into the comfy lounge chairs at the beach and pool.

The rockin' entertainment programs - you'll be amused from dawn 'til dusk.

What We'd Change

There's not much to do in the surrounding area, but with food, fun, shopping and entertainment in Pueblo Principe all on site, there's no reason to leave!

Why You Should Go

It's an hour & 20 minutes from the Puerto Plata airport - a long trip, but it'll be worth it.

Paddle surfing, kayaks, catamarans and snorkeling are all free for an hour per day.

There's a kids' club - drop the young'uns off and take some time to yourself.

You can channel your inner-competitiveness in a game of putt putt or tennis.
