Not happy

During my stay I received Information from staff about 10 times and 10-10 was incorrect information. Another thing that made our stay not that great was at the pool and beach so few guests spoke English. This made some days boring not being able to meet other guests. The final straw happen our last day when our representative confused our flight tome and if not for me checking we would have missed it by one day.

Family Vacation June 26 - July 2, 2018

This was my first time on vacation with my sister and niece. I have traveled and stayed at a number of resorts including Bahia Principe in Punta Cana. I was disappointed but tried to make the best of our week. The following is what I encountered: 1. I had no phone service in my room, I complained a couple of times and every time I spoke to someone I was given a different story. Normally I would not care about the phone, however my sister was in a different building so it was hard to communicate. 2. The air conditioning in the room would go and come. (The bedroom is the only place w/a.c.). 3. The pool closed everyday at 6 pm 4. My room was not cleaned everyday. They only give you 1 towel per person in your room. 5. Electricity went out a couple of times. 6. We were unable to make reservations to some of the restaurants. I tried the very first day that we arrived. The worst part about all of this I spoke to a manager and they had me put a complaint in writing. Here we are 2 mths later and still no response. I will never go back. With just a few changes, this resort could be nice.

I would not recommend AT ALL ...

First, if you do not speak Spanish - the language barrier alone is enough to stay away - thankfully we were traveling with two teenagers that had just enough Spanish to get us by, without them I am not sure how we would have managed. The only English speaking staff were at the front desk (Julian was fabulous) and the bar in the lobby and pool - for the most part 98% of the staff acted as though you were bothering them when ever you tried to ask a question, no matter where you were or what the question was. The grounds are beautiful I will give that to them - but as many other reviewers have mentioned the weekend becomes packed with locals and getting food or drink is nearly impossible, even with the tips we were giving. Resort is def not celiac friendly even with a letter from concierge - two of the four of us traveling have celiac disease and were sick for two days each. Additionally as other reviewers have mentioned the other two travelers ended up sick as well , four out of four travelers, not sure if it is the water or buffet, but I did read the other reviews and tried to be careful and we still ALL ended up sick. Room service is basically non-existent - call for ice - (there are no ice machines) wait 45 minutes call back wait another 15 minutes and end up walking to the bar myself. Same issue when we were sick to restock the 7Up in the fridge - call wait 30 minutes nothing, just walked to the bar to get it instead. Safe in room didn't work, called waited an hour nada, again any requests small or large was like they just couldn't be bothered! Outlets in the room are far and few between only one near the bed (after we unplugged the clock), one in bathroom and one near mirror, thankfully we had 2 rooms or someone wouldn't have been able to charge their phone at night!! Oh and the only AC part of the resort is your room,or the "gourmet" restaurants (which good luck getting a reservation there we checked in Sunday and I tried to reserve each of the three for a different night for the weeks stay and they were basically booked.) I ended up going to the concierge after two of us were sick from the cross contaminated buffet (which barely had AC btw) and she was able to secure us a spot in two of the three restaurants (one was AC and one was not), food at both was delicious but we were comparing it to the "average" buffet we had been eating all week. And dont even think about getting anything to drink aside from the water on the table or the drink of the night which was self serve while in the buffet! I will also give them the entertainment the Michael Jackson Show was good and they had a "circus" one night and dancing another. I am certain you could stay somewhere with much better service for about what we paid. We did the tour to Monkeyland and as the other reviews stated was told about an hour and a half was actually about two and a half hour trip each way, but def worth it and the high light of the vacation.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, secluded escape haven on a palm-lined, private cove.

Spa's aromatherapy-starts w/ immersion in fragrant oils, followed by massage & facial. Boom.

Dropping the munchkins off at the Mini-Club (ages 4 -12) & taking some time for yourself.

The casino is FREE for all peeps 18+. Don't keep Lady Luck waiting too long.

What We'd Change

The resort restricts the number of visits guests make to its outstanding a la carte restaurants. Luckily, the buffet restaurant, Orquedea, offers exceptional dining.

Why You Should Go

It's 45 minutes from Santo Domingo airport & 35 minutes from La Romana airport.

You can take diving lessons in the pool. Splish splash.

Don't miss the activities at the pool. The Michael Jackson show is aah-mazing.

Santo Domingo is near-seeing the 16th century island life & Castle of Columbus is pretty darn cool.
