Fun Trip

The resort itself is very big. Very long walks from the beach to your lobby area. However, the shuttles run non-stop and have designated pickup/drop off areas. Making the distances not so bad. The specialty restaurants were good, but nothing amazing. We were mostly excited for Japanese, but ended up being the most disappointed. The Garden Grill (steakhouse) and Italian restaurants were our favorites and were the best food we had there. The buffet was ok. Not bad, not great. Our room was nice. Pretty much what we expected. The beach and pools were great, but if you did not get up early to reserve a spot before 830am, good luck finding anything after that. All of the employees were very friendly and spoke English which was very nice for us. We do wish there was more of a night life however. We would catch the entertainment show at 9 every night, but then it seemed like there was nothing to do after that. It was very possible that there was something and we just did not know of it... but if there was it was not advertised very well. With all of that said, we did have a great time and enjoyed our stay. I think if we make the trip again, we might spend the extra money and book at the Adult Only side. Pros: Short trip from the airport. Great beach and pool. Friendly staff. Cons: Ok food. Not much for nightlife.

Disappointing resort

Our experience at the Gran Bahia Principe Bavaro was average. We found the staff overall not in tune with guests needs, and some could not even care less in trying to help us out when we needed something. The best part about the hotel complex is its location on the beach and the several pools available. Dining options were very disappointing to say the least. Upon arrival we were told, after enquiring, that all the restaurants were completely booked for the 3 nights we were there, leaving us with no other option but to eat at the buffet. We were told it is pretty typical for all the restaurants to be booked, which I find hard to believe. And if that is the case, why advertise the different and various dining options...? The rooms are outdated and need some TLC. Beds are uncomfortable and if you like good pillows at night, you are out of luck. We made the best of it but would not recommend this place to friends.

We had a great time!

This resort is huge! Overall, it was very clean. Our room was clean and sufficient for the time we spent in it. Overall customer service was lacking. For example, my friend and I walked up to one of the bars at the pool, and 3 workers ignored us for sever minutes while they carried on a conversation. We received this type of service more often than not. There were a few instances of good service at the specialty restaurants and customer service stations. Food at the specialty restaurants was much better than the buffet. The buffet was very crowded, loud and often had a horrible smell. Also, certain items never seemed to be refilled like the rice pudding, and hot items were often cold. There was a very large variety. We did participate in the bingo at the pool a couple of days and had fun. Most days we were out on excursions, but there seemed to be plenty of activities right at the resort. We enjoyed the sports bar, and karaoke in the evenings. The microphone for karaoke only worked on occasion, and the workers never seemed to care or may any attempts to fix it.
