In Honor of Cinco de Mayo, West Dallas Students and Volunteers Plant "Mexican Flag" Garden

Dallas (May 1, 2013) - West Dallas Community School students, with the help of volunteers, will plant a new, colorful 14' x 4.5' flower bed in front of the school sign in the colors of the Mexican flag this Friday at 1 p.m., May 3. West Dallas Community School was founded in 1995, to serve the families of West Dallas, an area of extreme poverty. Cinco de Mayo, is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

The colors of the Mexican flag represent hope (green), white (unity) and red (the country’s heroes). West Dallas Community School 5th grade students, who are currently studying Botany in their Nature Studies class, will be helping with the design of the flower bed, selection of type of plants, and the planting. Two Dallas-based companies, Ruibals Nursery and are donating the plants. employees will also be involved in the planting.

Cheap CEO and President, Josh Paine, who will help with the planting on Friday, is a WDCS board member, and is pleased to be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with the school. “Mexico is an important partner and tourist destination for, and we love to celebrate Mexico, especially their beaches. We try to bring a little bit of fun and sun wherever we go, but in this case the West Dallas Community School’s teachers, students and administrators are the ones who bring sunshine into our lives and the surrounding community,” according to Paine.

West Dallas Community School offers a Christian education to at-risk children of West Dallas, pre-kinder through 8th grade, teaching extraordinarily strong academics coupled with the formation of good habits. The School seeks to break the cycle of generational poverty by providing exceptional education, parenting resources and academic guidance for each at-risk child attending the school. Volunteer opportunities at the school include mentoring and tutoring among others.
