Great things come in small packages!

When I first arrived to this hotel, I was a bit underwhelmed. I had stayed in hotels in Mexico previously and this was by far the smallest (around 400 rooms). I'm glad I kept an open mind because this place is great! Food - The food was excellent everywhere I ate, whether it be the buffets or the a la carte restaurants. If you are a sushi fan, please visit Ayami. It was the best sushi I've ever had. The Italian restaurant was so good, we ate there 3 separate times. My only caution would be the steak in the steakhouse --- it tasted good but it is not what you would expect if you are used to the types of steaks the United States has. Service - The service was excellent. Everybody is extremely friendly and many folks are multi-lingual. Everyone was very helpful all trip Entertainment - Rodrigo and Samwell!!! These guys are the ring leaders of all the events around the resort and they are very charismatic, outgoing, and very talented. The whole entertainment staff was great. I saw 3 different shows at the theater and was never disappointed. Be prepared though -- the theater gets really really hot and the fans don't really help. They also set up events for volleyball, aerobics, obstacle courses, etc. Outside of these great performers, there are volleyball nets, ping pong tables, spas, shopping, etc. There is also a night club that I went to briefly but it is not my scene. It seemed fun if you like to dance the night away. They also have live music up in the huge (and comfortable) front lobby. I am not sure if it is nightly but the performers I saw sang a mix of Spanish and English songs and it was enjoyable. The pool is very warm so if you are going for a refreshing dunk, the ocean is the place to do that. There is some seaweed build up but that is not the resort's fault and there are teams there who clean up the seaweed regularly. Room - The room was nice. It had a big balcony and the bathroom area was nice. The room never felt quite cool enough, though. The coolest I could get the room to was 76 degrees Fahrenheit which felt too warm. All and all, the smaller sized hotel made for a more enjoyable atmosphere. It was quieter, less chaotic, and I felt I received a more personalized experience with whatever I did --- I never felt like they were too busy or overwhelmed. Outside of being a little too hot in a few places (Theater, Room, Pool), I had a great experience. And one should expect it to be warmer than usual when visiting Mexico in mid August anyway. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation with fun activities to do and a more personal experience all around.

Average at Best

At least once a year I take a trip to the Caribbean, I've been to Mexico often and enjoy the culture and people. For this trip my friends and I were celebrating my Birthday. We picked this hotel off of others reviews and feedback. Unfortunately we probably should have done more research. The hotel itself wasn't terrible, it was average at best. After promising my friends that Mexico had some of the best clear water as they had never been there the beach and water was filthy, this resort sits at the end of the beach and your view was of the multiple high piles of algae that was taken from the water and left on the beach to dry out. The hotel staff did say the water was due to rain season. The beach is separated between the regular Catalonia and the Privileged side we were unaware of this until we were instructed by a waiter at dinner. Beach service even on the privileged side is scarce. As a privileged guest you have your own check in office this crew was extremely unhelpful and unaccommodating we were given the wrong room and when we asked to change they had nothing available, we were told perhaps tomorrow that went on for 2 days when we finally gave up and continued with our current room. Also in this check in area you have people trying to get you to go to an "information session" they are trying to sell you a vacation package dont fall for it. This part of my trip was the worst possible experience I have ever encountered in all my travel. Braian was rude, arrogant, pushy and disrespectful. I had to walk out of the room to keep my composure. Spa services were ok a little overpriced but the staff was friendly and the space was clean. The food was the best part of staying at this hotel. The buffet was our go to it was actually really good. You can eat at one of the specialty restaurants you are allowed 3 restaurants as a privileged member which didn't make sense not having free access to all of them multiple times as it is custom when you pay for them at other hotels. The Mexican restaurant was the best of them all. The entertainment folks were very friendly and nice however one of the night shows was not at all appropriate for a family friendly resort. Overall this resorts nice but thats all it is. Dont ever need to come back here specifically

Expected More....

Pros: We booked the upgraded version of the hotel and it was worth it - very close to the beach and the pools. The room was comfortable and we got free WIFI, safe services and good AC. The staff was hardworking and really helpful - at the buffet, the cleaning lady, beach services, extremely good entertainment team. The buffet offered tasty and various food, the personnel was also very polite and responsive. A representative of CheapCaribbean was at the hotel every day in the morning in case you need a help, have questions or book a trip. Cons: The staff of the restaurants was unfriendly and sometimes rude. Basically, it's impossible to get seats. There were always some obstructions created by the personnel (hostess at the door) which prevented us from getting seats. We stayed for 10 days and barely did two visits - Japanese restaurant and Steak House restaurant. The manager of the Steak House restaurant (Mr. Augustino) was ungracious and rude. Another disadvantage of the resort is that only one path connects all the hotel buildings and is used as a main connection between the buffet and the beach - during the dining time was crowded especially in the morning. The management should take more persistent care of the cleaning of the beach from sea grass.
