Everything except the food
This place awesome from the beaches and pools to the entertainment, drinks and service. The rooms were ok but we had a beautiful view. The one thing that needs improvement is the food. The dinners if you had reservations weren't bad but the buffets leave a lot to be desired.
I've been to Punta Cana multiple times and for the first time ever, I can honestly say that the services were terrible overall. The food in the buffet (for both breakfast and lunch) was not tasty, the majority of the food looked and tasted old and not fresh. I spent a few first couple of days without eating along with a few others in my group because even the food at the Seafood restaurant tasted terrible. The quality and variety of drinks has decreased significantly. These resorts used to have their local beer, Presidente available in very cold bottles now it is only available on TAP and it warm and water down. The cleanliness of the rooms is questionable. The housekeeping staff know the total amount of persons in the room yet don't staff the room accordingly, each one of our rooms had 4 people staying in them and we only had 3 towels in each room every single time housekeeping came in to stock the room all they would stock was the towels and would not clean anything. They would make the beds and change the towels but nothing more than that. We had to ask them for the 4 towels and if you want anything else that they failed to leave in the room during their housekeeping shift they direct you to call the lobby and request it, they can't just give it to you from their cart which is ridiculous because of the wait time before they bring you anything from the lobby. Additionally while my daughter was showering, a roach came up through the drain, totally disgusting. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone it is not worth it especially considering it is supposed to be one of the best ones and was pretty pricey in comparison to others available in the area.
Resort (pools, rooms, outdoors) maintenance was 100% beautiful. Did not like that I had to pay for WiFi & room service at resort but yet I got an all inclusive package. Staff not so friendly. It seemed as if it’s just a job to staff. Food choices at buffet were average. Restaurant reservations have to be made the day you arrive to resort otherwise you will not be able to get in. Liked the gym and various classes offered. Bar service great however I have stayed at other all inclusive resorts and there is poolside service and at this resort there was no pool side service. We had to go and get our drinks at the bar ourselves which was ok considering all the bad publicity DR has been getting lately. I did like the variety of water parks they have for kids. Not a lot of night activities to do on resort other than casino, theatre performances,& night club. Overall stay was average experience to me.
Barcelo Bavaro Family Club:
First off, service is great! Miramar Buffet was really good and Kyote Japanese was the best. The buffet at Strykers is very small. My son is 11 and loved the arcade and bowling. Casino was also a lot of fun but dealers don’t have much of a personality. Pools are great! Beach had some seaweed, but it was picked up daily, by hand. Spa was good. Beach was private in front of the resort so locals are not selling anything at all.

What's the difference between the deluxe and the family club deluxe at this hotel5 answers
6 years, 78 months ago
Darien ct
The 3 room categories in which we offer are the Family Duplex, Family Deluxe and Family Junior Suite. The 'Details' link can be clicked in order to see the difference between those 3 room categories.
MariaCC
We stayed at the family club. The family club is a section or area in the resort were the rooms are next to what they call "the Barcy pool" which is a very nice and useful pool for kids with a bar next to it. In addition,it is very close to the kids club (playground), mini golf and area of other games with another bar next to it (cold water, milkshake etc.). This area is only a few minutes walking distance from the main pool and the food courts. Nevertheless, if you prefer to stay with your kids closer to the main pool(s), there is another small pool specifically for kids next to the main pool.
Nisnisch
Family is children oriented, rooms with two bedrooms which were awesome.
wirmarie
Deluxe family gets you a loft with an extra bathroom. You also get to use the pirate ship waterpark one time for free.
ATL1972
We had a family club deluxe and included 2 bedrooms, small foyer with refrigerator, microwave (didn't use it), and safe, and 2 decks with hot tub on back side deck and large bathroom. Master bedroom had a king size bed with lounging couch and tv and the 2nd bedroom had 2 double beds with a tv. Large closets and full length mirrors in both. Bathroom had separate water closet (toilet room), 2 sinks and rainfall shower head. Hot water all the time - even for 3 showers in a row. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner provided in shower dispensers. We had provided bottled water, drinks, and snacks. Not sure about the deluxe so maybe you can compare this description with the online deluxe.

Does the Hotel have services for children under 45 answers
I see that you have kids club for ages 4 and up but I have a 2 year old that I will be traveling with. Are there any types of babysitting services offered thru the hotel?
5 years, 72 months ago
hdevin
In order to participate in child care services, all children must be at least 4 years of age.
BethCC
I think there are. The ladies at the kid's club hinted at babysitting services at night. I think the kids club itself is open to midnight. People just dropped there kids off. We didn't feel comfortable with that.
Snowman5925
Yes, for an extra fee.
wirmarie
They do offer it, but their kids club in my opinion was lacking!
ATL1972
There is an hourly fee for babysitting.

Is Barcelo nonsmoking?6 answers
What areas are smoke free? (dining rooms, theater, pool??)
5 years, 72 months ago
Chicago
This resort has designated smoking areas, however, there is no smoking in all rooms and dining areas.
BethCC
We saw the occassional smoker near the pool but it never interfered. I think the dining areas were smoke free. I saw ash trays in the main building but it is so huge and open that, if there were smokers, you might not notice.
Snowman5925
All rooms are smoke free! So are the restaurants, Casino, Disco and Theater, however you can smoke on open areas by the pool and beach
AriesLC
Inside no smoking, on the grounds there were designated areas. Traveling with children and us being non-smoking we enjoyed that.
wirmarie
Unfortunately not, they will be smoking by the pool and most other areas as well. They do not allow smoking at dinner though.
ATL1972
Just the inside dining areas!

Is the golf included at the resort5 answers
If I'm staying at resort is the golf included? If not what is the charge per golfer
5 years, 71 months ago
Florida
No, there is an extra fee for the Golfing. You can contact the resort directly for fees at www.grandoasispalm.com.
SueCC
It was not included for us. My husband and son had to rent clubs and played one day and it cost $90 total. But they said it was a gorgeous course.
mcindoodle
My husband and 2 sons golfed while there. The greens fees were included but they had to rent a cart and clubs which came to $85 per person. The course was amazing
jojo3kids
No, not sure on the charge.
ATL1972
We went in April and a free round of golf was given for each 2 days of stay but you had to rent a golf cart and clubs. My husband and son played and the cost was $130 per person. My family enjoys golf but not too experienced. They brought their own balls with them and lost a ton as there are many areas of water. There are workers on the course who will sell you some used golf balls if needed.

I am a gay guy and I have been to Punta Cana 5 times with my partner. Never alone but in a group. I think as long as you keep your display of affection to yourself and keep a low key, you should be okay. The latin culture could be harsh and may not understand what a transgender is, but respect is first, if you respect yourself they will respect you. There are gay people working on these resorts however you can see they keep low key while on the job.

there is a nightly show but not the greatest. Also it starts at 10 but there is a kids show at 9 which we did not attend
Bill
They have plenty of activities. Every night they have different shows from 10 till midnight.
There is a kids club with full of activities for the kids.
Plenty of things to do without living the resort.
STRESSFREE
I know that during the day they have kids activities as part of the Barcy club. At night before the show in the theater the kids have their own activity where they sing, dance and can be kids. Pretty much to wear them out from 8 - 9 pm... Kids seems to enjoy and have fun with it. it is all in english... they get to interact with other kids from different cultures as well
AriesLC
This resort is awesome, they have shows, swimming and a teen club if you have teens
wirmarie
You will not have to leave this resort because it's huge! My son is 4 yrs old he enjoyed the beach/pool/nightly kids show. Also, they have great kids club (my son didn't go there though).

Is the water park part off the all-inclusive or a separate fee6 answers
5 years, 64 months ago
Jen
The water park is included in price when booking at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe Club Family.
CCGreg
Yes, the Barcy water park for kids is included in your stay at the resort.
KristenCC
With my room it was included, but some people in our party had to pay a fee.
wirmarie
separate fee and it's not worth paying $10 per person.
heszadfez
The Barcy water park is free 11-7 pm! It's an amazing park even for bigger kids. Another huge water park- the Pirate ship is free only the day after arrival.
ankarusskaya
Jen,
They have a small waterpark area that is geared toward kids 7 and under. The Pirate Ship waterpark is $14 per person per day. They will let you use it one time at no charge if you booked the kids club deluxe room, but after that the charges apply.

Can resort credits be used to pay for babysitting?2 answers
I would like to know what a resort credit can be used to pay for, and specifically, if it can be used to pay for babysitting services.
Thank you!
2 years, 29 months ago
D
Resort credits are generally for use towards the purchase of services at the Spa, Room Service, Pirate's Island Water Park, Golf, bottles of wine, etc. This is not something that can usually be used for babysitting services, however. For the full details, please see your confirmation documents. Please keep in mind that these resort credits are at the discretion of the resort and can change at any time.
JeannieCC
No, resort credits are not used like money. Instead they provide a discount on different services/goods. For example, I used mine for a discount on a massage at the Spa.

Do you need a special type of room upgrade to make your dinner reservations in advance?5 answers
I heard that you couldn't just have the Family Deluxe room, you had to be in the Preferred Club to get a reservation. Is this true?
2 years, 28 months ago
Jenn
Barcelo has a Club Premium, it is not Preferred Club but is similar. You get added perks and perhaps one of those is them making dinner reservations for you in advance at all once. You should still be able to make dinner reservations without the Club Premium but may be limitations in terms of availability.
CCGreg
No, we had the Family Deluxe room and made reservations. The only exclusives that we experienced is that a few restaurants were Premier Club level at different times but plenty of places to eat! As far as I could tell, the food was similar just less people when we walked by and quieter. Since we didn't have the Premier Club level, not sure of all the perks, though.
LoriR
No, you can make dinner reservations upon arrival.
Stash01
We were in a family resort and was able to do dinner reservations with no problem.
Valisha
Upgrade to premium when you book, it’s hard to upgrade when you check in.
