    I will make this to the point! Stayed at the Royalton with the wife for 8 days.. (still here for another 2 days).. Pros.. Resort is beautiful and maintained for the most part! service is good in most areas food is very good! Rooms are decent (our A/C was cold) Cons.. Value is not here! A lot of things are extra! We upgraded to diamond club and to be honest, no difference whatsoever! Most importantly, for us anyway… no one seems to write this in there reviews but a lot of the reason we come to any all inclusive is the BEACH! The beautiful turquoise waters! We have pools at home.. Anyways, the beach here is just awful in every way and very disappointing and really dampened our experience the whole week! Besides the fact the water is completely brown and seaweed everywhere, the loungers are disgusting and never cleaned, no one was ever on the beach! We literally had to rent a car (not cheap) for a few days to go to playa del carmen and Cancún and isla mujeres to get a decent beach (which were all great) I can’t stress enough, if you are beach people, DO NOT CHOOSE THIS RESORT!

    Jorge from the Agave Restaurant is the BEST! Excellent service! Made us feel like royalty. The resort is excellent. The food and drinks are fantastic. I never write reviews but i couldn’t resist because I value great service. Thanks Jorge for making us feel so special today.

    Wonderful experience

    The resort was awesome. The food experience was great. Enjoyed the breakfast/brunch buffet as well Agave Mexican Cuisine, our server Jorge was super amazing. He made my birthday celebration a dinner to remember. I will definitely return for a longer stay!

    Don’t believe the negative reviews!

    We arrived April 27 for one week. After reading all the negative reviews I was so worried, but as soon as we arrived my worries disappeared! This was our seventh time travelling to Mexico. We do an all inclusive yearly and honestly I would recommend this resort. It’s a short distance from the airport took us about 30 minutes. They made one stop at the Royalton splash before dropping us off. We booked the diamond club and yes as everyone indicates check-in was slow, they had only 2 employees available, but it was fine there’s refreshments and food and they make it very comfortable while you waited. We got there at 11 am so our room wasn’t ready, we knew this would be the case, we had lunch and changed to our bathing suits to sit by the pool, we come back at 3:30 pm but our room still wasn’t ready. We waited till almost 4, at that point we just wanted to get into the room as we were exhausted from traveling all day. As other reviews mention they do ask for a credit card to hold as a deposit we told them we did not have one and they were fine with that. They also introduce you to someone from guest services who tries to sell you on Marriott travel stays, all you have to do is join them for a nice breakfast for 45 minutes and then you get A free excursion or a spa treatment . We had to tell him numerous times we were not interested. He was nice but very pushy, we finally said we just arrive let us think about it, he wanted our phone number to follow up and I told him I didn’t have a phone he said he would reach out to our butler; thankfully he didn’t. Pool - The resort was 50% capacity so we had no issues getting seats by the pool; the cabanas by the pool do fill up quick. If you want one you have to go down early, before 6 am!!! . As long as you put down a personal item on any of the pool loungers or the cabanas with your towels they will not touch it, however if you do not come back to the cabanas usually by noon they would remove your stuff so that other people could sit, there were numerous days where people would claim a cabana and you would never see them. The pool cabanas are free!! The ones on the beach are not! The pool butlers are excellent. Damaris and Rogelio, are pleasant, hardworking and very attentive! Damaris would always make sure that our loungers were set up with towels. Rogelio would constantly coming around to ask us for drinks; never felt that you needed to tip them! Everyone you encountered was great, pleasant, nice and always making sure that you were good. Only negative experience was on a day the Rogelio was off and Marcos was the pool butler for the day, when anyone first got to the pool he would introduced himself, ask if you wanted anything and more often then not people would say no not right now and then he never asked you again nor would you see him again, actually you would see him but he would be walking in the restaurant, the outer edge of the pool always looked like he was busy/on a mission but never never serving anyone. Restaurants - ate at the Tex-Mex restaurant, twice for lunch and one for dinner food was great, the steakhouse we went 2x steaks were good, Caribbean restaurant was OK. We had the jerk chicken which was dry and mahi mahi was good, Japanese was good. Sports bar was okay. Disappointed that they don’t have any Canadian sports jerseys when they have so many Canadian guests! Coffee and Ice cream spot was good to get a cold or hot coffee (they had almond milk) and the ice cream flavours would change daily. Also had pastries/ cookies / donuts. Rooms - we were in building 5 which is connected to the lobby via floor 3. we were in room 5413. We had a great room with a great view. our butlers were Nestor, and Rubi. Nestor went above and beyond - anytime you saw him he would check in! well worth the Butler Services, he scheduled all of our dinner reservations the first day. We didn’t have to worry about anything. When you arrive in the room there are a bunch of snacks that are yours to eat. They do not refill them, along with a bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine and some fruit, which was a great welcome. Communication with our butlers was easy, done through a WhatsApp group chat, every morning and afternoon you get a text from your Butler asking if there’s anything that you need, we’re not high maintenance travellers so we only use their services to book reservations. The beds were comfortable and rooms were clean so no complaints. I read reviews about people complaining about sewage smell, honestly it smelled more like the seaweed, if you go down to the beach that’s what you smelled. The only time we would encounter that smell is the first time you turned on the shower so we would turn the shower on and let it run for five minutes and it was fine. Beach - if you were a beach person, this resort is not for you. The water was not clear. They do not have Palapas or umbrellas on the beach so when it’s hot, you have no shade. Night entertainment was great! Tipping - didn’t feel like you had to but we always did. Environmental tax payable when you leave the resort was $32 US make sure you have exact change. I read something about a departure tax that was payable before you left the country? We didn’t have to pay anything. All in all had a great relaxing vacation!

    Check in process took forever. We arrived at 3pm which is when check in starts. We didn’t get to check in until 4pm in which all the restaurants were already closed. Very frustrating after a long traveling day. The form they provided to us said a 200 deposit with a credit card for anything that was charged to our room and for any potential damage. The worker crossed out 200 and wrote 500 and when we questioned this he responded that they are just still using old forms of paper which is unacceptable. Water in our shower smelled TERRIBLE. Room service was not good at all, pizza was cold, cheesecake was warm, and jalopeno poppers were hard. When we tried to make reservations for hibachi the hostee said there was only a 7:45p spot. We asked if we could do 8:30 and was told no only 7:45. The host then proceeded to tell the party behind us (with the same amount of people) that there was an 8:30 available. When we questioned him he agreed to change our reservation to 8:30. When we arrived to the dinner we did not have a hibachi table and was told that we can’t order any hibachi. This was not mentioned to us when we were making reservations. We arrived first to dinner and there was an empty hibachi table that was eventually taken by the party was 5 that reserved IN THE MIDDLE of our conversation with the host. The only positive part of this hotel was the kiddie pool, everything else was unacceptable.
