Beautiful Resort, but Disappointing Experience – Especially on My Birthday
My mom and I stayed at Majestic Colonial – Colonial Club (Adults Only) for 12 nights beginning July 4th. We booked two rooms (3337 & 3339) for what we hoped would be a relaxing and celebratory trip—but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. Positives: • Our rooms were perfectly located—pool view, close to the beach, adults-only pools, and the Colonial Club lounge. • The grounds are absolutely beautiful and well maintained. • We received VIP touches like nightly turndown service, and even a bubble bath and macarons set up on our last night without us asking. • Most of the staff were friendly and hardworking—especially bar and restaurant servers. Negatives: • Arrival was disappointing: no greeting, no welcome drinks, no butler to tour the property, we got an intern. We had to find the lounge ourselves and wait 30–40 minutes to check in. • I was celebrating a birthday, which was clearly communicated prior in several emails to management and both of our butlers, yet it was completely ignored. No banner, no cake, no acknowledgment. Meanwhile, we saw dozens of other rooms with birthday signs and guests being sung to at restaurants. It was honestly upsetting. • The butler service felt unnecessary and awkward. We barely used them, yet both said goodbye hoping for tips. One even asked me directly to leave a positive review, despite having done nothing to assist. • The food was disappointing—bland, repetitive, and hard to enjoy due to strong sewage smells at the Taino and Le Gourmet restaurants and lobby restrooms. • The beach was unswimmable due to seaweed and strong odors—understandable to a degree, but cleanup effort was visible. • Crowds were intense, especially at the pool bars with large American groups partying and drinking all day. It overwhelmed the staff and changed the vibe completely. • Service was inconsistent, particularly at the main buffet—we had to ask three times for drinks on one occasion. • We only received a “how was your stay?” call on our final day, which felt too little too late. Bottom Line: This resort has strong potential, especially for adults-only travelers, but we left feeling let down. The Colonial Club experience did not justify the upgrade, and missing out on a simple birthday acknowledgment really soured the experience. I wouldn’t return unless service consistency and guest recognition improve.

Good stay overall
A good experience, but the reviews are highly inflated. We booked last min and ended up choosing this resort based on the excellent reviews after hours of reading on trip advisor, Google, and Facebook groups. reviews are either being heavily encouraged or the majority of these travelers must have stayed on the Club Side with extra perks and butler service. While we had a good experience, it was not like the glowing reviews that make you think it’s nearly perfect. Pros: -VERY kid friendly resort. Staff loves kids. -there’s something for every type of traveler. The pool is so long and expansive that you can find a quiet area, a part with entertainment, a part with mostly families, swim up bar that’s lively; etc. Same with other areas at the hotel. This is a great hotel option for all types of people. -never ran out of clean towels, hot water, plenty of drinks in our fridge (employee we had was amazing at Leaving lots of water and drinks), pool towels, working telephone, etc. we always had everything we needed. -SO MANY SHADY AREAS! I loved this about this resort. Almost all the chairs at the pools have the option of shade, the buildings all run in one long stretch so you can get from one side of hotel to the other in shade the entire time. Lots of shade available in the pool from palm trees. Love the setup and open air design with shade in the outside too. -the pool layout cannot be beat in my opinion. Brilliant to have longer pools versus just a couple big circular pools. It was also very clean! So many entry points to the pool that you’re never far from it, doesn’t matter what room you’re in. The pool is a reason I would consider returning. -excellent wifi connection on entire resort -love the A/C in restaurants and the design of the theatre. It was very fresh. We never felt we were uncomfortably hot at this resort. -the resort is walkable and doesn’t have trolleys, I like that it isn’t massive. -check in was great and quick, staff was friendly and did a great job explaining everything -beautiful lobby, lower level bars, patios, etc. -beautiful gardens and clean exterior property. Friendly gardeners (please tip them if possible, they work so hard and are so kind) -free room service was great -beautiful buffet near the beach that’s partly open concept. It’s a beautiful building and thoughtfully designed. I like that breakfast ran later here. -always food available. Whether it’s mcjestic snack bar, buffets, restaurants, room service etc. the variety in offerings and hours of service was flexible and great. -security on the beach was excellent and kept the vendors from bothering us too much -no time share pitches, nobody conning us trying to sell anything. We were free to enjoy our vacation without being bothered. -they do an excellent job trying to clean the sargassum. They work from early morning until 4-5 pm cleaning it. They have industrial machines and then load it onto trucks. They are efficient and doing their absolute best but the amount of seaweed is just too much right now. We could get into the ocean 3/6 days. The biggest pro is the layout of the hotel. There’s a buffet on one end near the lobby and another on the other end near the beach. Tons of bars in between, tons of access points to the pools, lots of chairs and shade at the beach. All in walking distance. Cons/Areas of improvement: -food is just okay. Not great, not horrible. Beach lunch buffet also says open until 3:30 but by 3:05 staff was already setting up for the following time slot of snacks. Pasta bar shutting down, trays of food being removed, etc. this was disappointing. I find the buffets don’t always replenish certain foods when they run out even if it’s still early. -the rooms are in need of upgrading (comfy but very squeaky bed that I suspect was repaired or broken at some point), more secure lock on patio door is necessary, a fridge that actually works is needed). A front door on the bathroom entrance would also be nice. -we stayed on the first floor on 1123 and it was very loud and noisy. The placement of our room didn’t help cause there’s a small building in the back that houses clean laundry so that pathway beside our room was also noisy. during the day it was loud with trolleys back and forth, staff back and forth, staff walkie-talkies, staff speaking loudly in the halls, maintenance workers outside etc, travelers etc. At night it was loud with people passing by to go for dinner and entertainment. If I were to return, I would request a second or third floor room even though we had a stroller (there are elevators, some not working). Because of the hotel design that flows, many people cross the first floor to go from one side of hotel to the other, so a second floor would have been much quieter I feel. -majority of the staff we interacted with is very friendly/kind but we encountered some throughout our days that were indifferent/almost bothered. We tipped, always said thank you and hello, smiled, etc. but the reviews will have you thinking your service will be top notch and extremely hospitable from start to finish and it most definitely isn’t always. Mostly yes, but not everyone. -the employees working food stations did not speak English. I once asked for pepper and got tons of salt sprinkled on, hard time understanding terms like “well done / well cooked”, asking for a plain omelette without toppings was difficult, etc. a lot of food labels are missing, etc. -chairs are reserved early morning and nobody is monitoring the chairs that have been empty but reserved for hours on end. We didn’t have a problem finding a spot around 9-10 am most days as we aren’t picky and the hotel isn’t at max capacity, but it could definitely be a big issue during busier travel times if hotel is packed. Overall, I would still say it was a good vacation and I would recommend this resort if you are able to get a good sale price. This hotel is not for bougie, picky or experienced travelers who have been to luxurious places. I will also recommend getting the swim out rooms during high sargassum seasons. Well worth the price to upgrade IMO. We would like to stay at Majestic Elegance next time (sister property that’s an upgrade).
