Disappointed Stay
Unfortunately, our experience at Occidental Tucancun was disappointing and far from what we expected—especially since this was our second time staying at the resort. One major issue was the constant pressure to join the vacation club. We were lured into attending the breakfast/seminar only because it seemed like the only way to get a reservation at the à la carte restaurants. The seminar reps were pushy and borderline aggressive—it was a complete waste of two hours, and we lost an entire morning of our trip. On a positive note, Arlette at the front desk was great—very accommodating and helpful. David was also incredibly professional; one night we lost belongings on the balcony during a heavy rainstorm, and he did his best to assist us. That said, basic requests like asking for toilet paper were ignored—we never received it despite asking. A big warning: avoid the store on-site selling replica handbags and cigars. My husband spent $200 USD on cigars, and they were fake—filled with mold and holes. Completely unacceptable. Our room had several issues: the A/C leaked constantly, leaving puddles on the floor. Our 9-year-old actually slipped and fell one night. The shower door wasn’t hinged properly either. We tried to make the best of it and didn’t request a room change since our stay was short, but these are serious safety and maintenance problems. The food was a major letdown. We often left the resort to eat elsewhere and even ordered McDonald's via Uber one night because the food was so bad. Buffet options were bland, repetitive, and disorganized. Some days there were no protein options—just fruit and carbs. Getting into the à la carte restaurants was a frustrating process. You have to line up for an hour or more just to maybe get a reservation, even though the restaurants were nearly empty when we finally got in. And sadly, the food there was still only average. We couldn’t enjoy the beach due to the heavy seaweed, which I understand is seasonal and not the resort’s fault, but still disappointing. The bars were extremely understaffed, with only one bartender, so getting drinks involved long waits. All in all, the resort did not live up to expectations, and while there were a few bright spots (thank you again to Arlette and David), we won’t be returning.

Fair place
Fair place! If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and if you are going to use the place to sleep

Not a bad property for the money
Like any property you get what you pay for. I had some issues with the property. If you are looking for an affordable property for the family, then this property is for you. Not a lot of bells and whistles. Just affordability.

If I could give this a zero, I would
Do not stay here! Food quality was poor. The food at the buffet was either undercooked and cold or over cooked and dry. I thought I’d make a reservation at one of the 3 restaurants available but they ONLY take reservations at 7:30am for THAT day. So every day you have to get up and book your reservation. The reservation line is long. I spent 45 minutes making a reservation for an 30 min dinner in an NEARLY empty restaurant. The restaurant were 1/4 full each night and they refused to seat anyone without a reservation. Everything tasted of poor quality at every restaurant I went to. Food was cold, flavorless, and uninspiring. Rooms had leaks and cockroaches… I was switched rooms 3 times. The first room I was sent to was occupied! Second room had a significant leak above the bed that had recently been patched, the 3rd room had huge cockroaches. You can hear everything outside the room. Every conversation, foot step, bag rolling by etc. guests are inconsiderate. Kids were pounding on doors and running the halls at midnight. The staff, were professional but not overly helpful in managing any of the issues. I couldn’t get out of here fast enough. This place is affordable and the beach is pretty but I would never stay here again. I have stayed at an occidental before and I loved it. But this place, was absolutely terrible. I don’t ever write reviews but I pretty shocked that this “resort” was claiming 4 star. It is not even a 1 star in my opinion and I feel the urge to warn you.
