Great experience at Viva Heavens
If you are looking for a 5-star experience then pay for a 5-star hotel. However, if you are looking for a mid-range clean hotel on a budget then Viva Heavens might be for you. I traveled as a single mom with my three early teens/preteen children. We felt safe at the hotel and overall enjoyed our experience. The beach was very nice, water was clean with small waves. If you are wanting calm crystal-clear water out of a magazine, then Punta Cana might be a better option. BUT the sliver-lining for us staying on the north side when we did, was that we didn't experience all of the seaweed that was plaguing the Caribbean side. I would say 4 out of every 5 families were Dominican. I've seen some reviews that seemed to view this negatively...but let's remember, it is their island after all! The pool area does get crowded, but that didn't bother us because we prefer to stay on the beach. Once my youngest played volleyball in the pool with other children and it was a great experience for him to interact and play with other kids having a language barrier between them. The staff was amazing. Everyone we encountered was so nice. At one time, the beach bar was crowded and I did feel it took a while to get drinks. But, sometimes a little tip goes a long way and you can build a rapport with the bartenders. I read other reviews saying that the walk to the beach is long and the hotel isn't on the beach. From our perspective, this wasn't entirely true. It's not oceanfront to where you can have a balcony facing the ocean, if that's of high importance for you. But, it wasn't far off the beach at all. In fact, I've stayed at larger resorts and had a longer walk to the beach due to the grounds and buildings being so expansive. At Viva Heavens there is a very pretty walking path with a pond, turtles and ducks and it only takes a couple minutes to walk down to the beach and restaurant. The beachfront buffet was perfect for lunch and in the evening turned into the Italian restaurant. The restaurants do rotate. This was not at all a problem. Just download the app and you can make reservations starting two days out. We ate at all four with Blend & the Italian being our favorites. The main buffet is open every day. I did book two massages, both were nice. Andrea (I think that was her name) at the front desk of the spa was amazing, absolutely loved her. If you are looking to venture out, Paradise Island and the Damajagua waterfalls were great experiences. We booked both excursions with Odille Services Tours. They were great.

First International Solo Travel Trip
I just returned from my first International Solo Travel Trip and it was wonderful. The check in on a Tuesday was a little hectic, but after that my week was full of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. The customer service by all of the staff at Viva Heavens was top notch. My room was clean and spacious. I will agree with others that the water was not hot, but I really didn't mind after being in the sun all day. I did not have any issues finding a lounger at the pool or beach. I enjoyed the July 4 celebration and loved the foam party. I went into the week planning to get one massage, but added a second after Andrea suggested a hot stone massage. The spa staff was awesome. I also enjoyed the food and visited the coffee shop each day. I did the VIP Excursion to Paradise Island and had the best time. The snorkeling was great and the staff for the tour were excellent. I used Jose's Transport for my rides to and from the airport. I also paid him from a short city tour. He was a wonderful guide and I definitely recommend him. The whole trip was exactly what I wanted and needed. As a solo female, I felt completely safe at all times. There was security around the resort consistently and on the beach. The beach and local town are beautiful and I recommend this trip and Viva Heavens!

TO MANY KIDS!!!
1st I will say that Speedy is the absolute best and very entertaining! We don’t normally leave reviews but feel this resort needed it! KIDS EVERYWHERE! It’s like the advertise on the local news surrounding Puerto Plata to give daily specials to bring your kids because there were always at least 50-75 a day in the pool! Nobody speaks English or understands English because most all of the people that visit this resort are from the DR! Rooms smelled like sulphur and had mold!! No hot water only warm and barely running water in bathroom sink. Don’t bother reading the drink menu at the bar because they either don’t know how to make it OR they don’t have the right ingredients! Food was really good for an all inclusive and Italian restaurant was the best! Nobody tells you what restaurants you need reservations for so thank goodness we were Wyndham owners and got right in! Don’t plan on going to bed early at all because the club insight is loud as heck until midnight! You are constantly bothered on the beach by locals trying to sell things which I don’t normally mind, because there’s always a deal for souvenirs but it was as least 10 people a day asking. Won’t go back!!

Kids everywhere!!
Do not stay at this resort if you want to relax. The pool!! it appears they truck people in from all over the Dominican Republic. No one speaks English. They don’t have very good mixers or drinks at all so don’t pay attention to the drink menu at all our room smelled like sulfur and did I mention that there were at least 100 kids in the pool every single day

Felt like family by the end of it
My rowdy group of almost 30 people arrived on a quiet Tuesday for a family trip which also happen to fall on my birthday. The front desk handled every personality perfectly from quiet anxious cousins to my robust Dominican mother. And me somewhere in the middle a bit serious and tired from traveling all day. They congratulated me when they saw my passport and our entire party was upgraded into suites. Awesome start. We arrived at the suites and were suprised to see just how much room they had! Couches to lay down and a balcony to lounge on. The water was hot the shades were black out. For me, this is enough and I am happy as I plan to spend most of my time between the beach and pool. However some would consider it a bit outdated. There’s no marble surfaces for example but again it’s a beautiful foundation and for me it was perfectly fine. Around the poool the drinking began. The kids were entertained with games, and the adults with bachata lessons. We all played bingo as a family as well and my dad was excited to win the game! The next day after the beach we went back to the poool and took a Zumba class that made us work up a sweat! In the evening we strolled about and for dinner there was a special event happening with dinner set around the pool. After there was a cola cabana style show which was so entertaining! The cabanas are right by the pool so you could relax and watch too. When I return to my room I was suprised with a cake some champagne and little gifts from the staff. They made me feel so special and I appreciate them a lot for thinking of me. I would say this is the perfect middle tier resort to visit for those with big families who generally want to move slow and be on island time, and it comes with a staff that is friendly and entertaining. BONUS you have some cool tourist spots near by like little Dominican Greek town just 30 min away. There’s also Paseo De Dona Blanca just 15 min away.
