msrriott frenchman's reef
This hotel has a terrible front desk staff. We arrived 1/2 hour early at the hotel. It was 93 and very humid. Our room was not ready and no options were given as to what we could do until our room was available. The lobby was like a sauna and a large business group was being given the VIP treatment. Every where we went people would ask us if we were with this group as though that was top priority. We eventually left our luggage in the lobby and went for lunch. After almost three hours and numerous checks at the front desk we finally received a room which was not what I had paid for. It was on a ground floor with no view. We were told no upgrades and we would have to wait to see what was available higher up....Outrageous.....Everyone seemed annoyed and we were just waiting for what we signed up for....The hotel has no entertainment at night. The beaches and pools are really nice and the restaurants are very nice but very expensive.I loved St. Thomas but would not stay at this hotel again...
Oh Well...Live and Learn....
P.S. My daughters birthday was mentioned on our booking and when I finally checked in and asked if anything special could be done, I was told NO.
Beautiful Facility, very well maintained. Pools and Beach are impeccable. Rooms very clean and with magnificient views from Oceanside ones.
Wish outside attractions were not a $12-$20 cab ride away (r/t) (roads are unwalkable) but you could stay onsite and have a great time.
We recently stayed here for our first vacation on St. Thomas and had a great time. We booked a resort view with french balcony but were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a room with a balcony in Morningstar building 1. The landscaping and groundskeeping were excellent all around the property. The restaurants are pricey but we did enjoy our dinners at the Sandbar and Aqua Terra Lounge. It should be noted that Sandbar/Havana Blue have live music almost every night so if you are in Morningstar building 1 you will hear music until about 11:00 (we were not disturbed by this). The beach was pretty good, but the surf was a little rough for our 5 year old for the first few days. He did enjoy the Morningstar pool though and that was less crowded than the pools at the main hotel. We found all of the staff to be friendly and helpful and housekeeping did a great job with our room each day. We certainly enjoyed our time here and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice home base during a visit to St. Thomas.

Good, but not great, resort
I recently stayed at the Frenchmen's Reef and found the resort to be adequate, but not 5-star. My room was comfortable, clean and the ocean view was outstanding. I used the fitness center daily and consider it to be above average with enough equipment for a full-body and cardio workout. The resort has a number of food and drink options; however, I found the breakfast buffet to be a good deal for the price, especially when compared to other restaurants on St. Thomas. The ferry to/from town was very useful as traffic was heavy during my stay because of annual carnival and the cruise ships. Overall, I rate the Frenchmen's Reef above average and would stay there again.

Is this a good snorkeling beach?10 answers

Dara
Take circumnavigational cruise (catamaran) around island and snorkel off of Green Island. Excellent views.
GAZZ
The coral cliffs outside Frenchman's Reef side of the resort offer some great snorkeling -- but there's no beach.
DanielleCC
There is a bit of coral and pretty fish to see on one side of the beach, but there are likely better locales on island.
musicearlyadopter
There is good snorkling at either end of the beach...it is a long wide beach. For the best snorkling, take the ferry over to St. Johns ($6.00 from Red Hook) and try Cinnamon Bay for the best in snorkling.
Mthyree
No, go to St. John.
beachbumette2
Best to take ferrie to St Johns at Turk Bay... worth the ride.

not really
speedr1023
In my opinion it is not a good snorkeling beach. We went to the Frenchman's Cove beach where we were told the snorkeling was better but we found it to be very bland. a few fish, grey rocks, nothing exceptional at all. We took a day sail on a sailboat and went to a couple of snorkeling places that were much better.
whatsthetruth
No, not really. I went snorkeling, and there wasn't much under there. It also has a bad undertow, so be careful if you're not a strong swimmer.
Sportstergirl
No. St. John (a boat ride away) has a better reputation. Trunk Bay is not so good anymore but other sites on St John are reportedly better.

Currently if you book with out the meal plan a child under the age of 13 is free if they are listed as the 3rd or 4th guest in the room.

what does a child 10 years old need to go on a cruise?1 answer
1 year, 22 months ago
angie
CheapCaribbean.com specializes in land and air packages. Flying to most of our Caribbean destinations requires a passport for all individuals, irregardless of age. The exceptions are Puerto Rico and the USVI which require a state issued ID and/or birth certificate. The requirements for cruises may be different. I would recommend going to travel.state.gov to search for the specific entry and exit requirements for cruises to the destinations of your choice.

Guests who select the Morning Star section will have direct access to the beach otherwise it is a a few minutes to walk. Morning Star section includes five two- and three-story beachfront buildings (exterior corridors, no elevators).
KellyCC
It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the beach, down steps, ramps, along sidewalks, downhill to the beach, uphill to return. I think it would be a problem with a broken ankle, but there is a shuttle which will pick you up in front of the hotel and drop you off at the beach so you should have no problem
whatsthetruth
It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the beach at Morningside. You must walk down steps, ramps, and sloping sidewalks. It would be a problem with a broken ankle, but there is a shuttle which runs about every 5 minutes that will pick you up in front of the hotel and take you to the beach and do the return trip.
whatsthetruth
You can take the shuttle down to the beach unless you are staying at the Morning Star (which is where the beach is). Otherwise, there are lots of stairs.
Sportstergirl
There is a shuttles that runs every 5-10 minutes t to take guests to and from the Beach. A few steps once you get there.

Is the Marriot Frenchman's Reef Resort have an all inclusive Meal plan?5 answers
1 year, 15 months ago
Nic
I didn't see an all-inclusive plan. I wouldn't recommend the food there. It is extremely expensive. Take the water taxi to Charlotte Amalie and go to restaurants there. Most people the the restaurant "Gladys." It is down an alley in the shopping area.
Sportstergirl
The Marriot Frenchman's Reef offers the option to purchase the all inclusive package. Cheap Caribbean does carry the All inclusive package for this hotel on our website. You may search for this hotel by using our create your own vacation package entering your specific travel dates for St. Thomas or by using the Quick Search option you would then choose Marriott Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort All Inclusive.
MeganCC
None that I know of.
Crobie
No, and you would not want that..go to town for dinner
unionftbal
they do not
The restaurants are a bit pricey, too, but they do have a gift shop/coffee shop that has sandwiches, pastries, drinks, etc. that are less expensive than sitting down in one of the restaurants.

My husband and I have twin 10 year olds. Can they stay free with this package?
Second question: the kids do not have passports, which I understand are not necessary since this is a US island. What form
Of government ID do they need to have? I'm not aware of kids government
IDs. Except birth certificates...?
1 year, 12 months ago
US
Under our current specials children under the age of 13 stay free in the room. The maximum occupancy in the Resort View room is for two adults and two children. US residents traveling to the USVI do not require passports for entry, although it is highly encouraged. Birth certificates are typically an accepted form of identification, however it is a good idea to check http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html for acceptable forms of identification.

Cheap Caribbean is unable to arrange weddings or vow renewals at this time. You would need to speak with the Marriott directly to arrange your the renewal of your wedding vows while staying at the resort with one of their wedding coordinators.

This is a perfect place for weddings. As a matter of fact we saw one while we were there. They even have a gazebo just for wedding photos.
