Wonderful Place

This is a nice resort on the water beautiful and relaxing views. The resort was very clean staff are friendly and helpful... they greet you with champagne and a wet aromatic towel to clean your hands...food is excellent all day long...did I say the food was great shout out to all the chefs and waiters and waitresses wonderful job....only complaints are they need to update electrical and shower/tub very high to step into (I have a bad back)...king bed was very comfortable, we stayed on the right side of the resort if your facing the ocean on the second floor overlooking the pool large terrace to walk out onto we went in June so it wasnt crowded...you can walk to the shops wear comfortable shoes.... I think they need a shuttle bus to Maho. Bathrooms are clean around the resort that's very important... store downstairs.... there was also a band.. there are water activities ...It was a wonderful vacation...

First trip to Sint Maarteen

First of all "Not Our First Rodeo or trip". We arrived at the airport and customs was great/ fast. Bus ride was 30 minutes also great. Then the hotel, listen if this is your FIRST all inclusive, Sint Maarteen trip, you want an extremely laid back vacation, and Duty Free shopping a quick walk down the beach.. THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR YOU, if you do not mind the dated (50 YR old) building. I think it was built as a timeshare with small rooms as well. Areas not air conditioned. The building is not a modern resort, but the view is GREAT. Small place, not crowded in summer time. If you are planning the Butler suite, I highly recommend it, great view, we had 2 private balconies, and the butler staff is wonderful (they work so you don't have to). The wait staff is excellent and want you to be happy, bartenders as well. The buffets are good, not extravagant and oversized due to the smaller resort, but you can still blow the diet. They have different "theme" nights ( french, italian, latino) at dinner which was very good. They rotate between the outside deck and the inside upper level restaurants, outside does a lava rock cooking method (tasty, good) , and the italian/ seafood restaurant (also good). Two lunch choices, buffet or deck area. The "nightly" entertainment was short, "3 plus 1 band" is excellent, do not miss them. The Show team is very professional and well rehearsed, this resort does not have a "Club", it is done on the pool deck ( not bad), but thankfully the weather was good. This proves it's dated. There is NO nightlife at the boardwalk in the summer. The pools are Ok, main pool needs some up keep as well as the Jacuzzi, Infinity pool is very active and noisy so you want to relax on the beach as far down as you can go, it's not that big. The water access can be tricky, steep 30 degree angle into the water, but it is great, no snorkeling here nothing to see. So if you want a vacation that is not all go go go , want to keep yourself in check, not over indulge and you wanted a quick 3 day get away from the east coast of the US, then this could be the place for you. I recommend this Island for vacation, LOVED IT!!

Nice for a quick cheap getaway

Sonesta Great Bay was a last minute trip for my husband and I to get away. We always look for an adult-only all-inclusive resort and Sonesta Great Bay is definitely that. There is wonderful access to water- a large swimming pool, an infinity pool, and then easy access to the beautiful Caribbean water. The following are some things to consider before you book. You will be staying in a horseshoe shaped bay where cruise ships will come and go nearly daily. There is an open buffet for you to eat at for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as some selective dinner options you could reserve (2 restaurants on site). Be sure to reserve in advance as they fill up quickly! The staff are nice and polite but often we were forgotten about on the beach if we ordered drinks so we were better off going and getting them on our own. Not a bad deal though! Overall we had a nice time but I think deep down in our hearts we wanted something a little more upscale.

Very Nice!

We stayed here for a 10 days at the end of July and were not disappointed. Some positives: Very clean. Very polite, accommodating and thoughtful staff. Walking distance to the boardwalk and Front/Back Streets. Close enough to the airport to be a quick shuttle, but far enough away to not hear every plane taking off and landing. Buffet dining was very good with a wide variety of foods. On sight entertainment was fun and lively. Some things which could be improved: No regular shuttle to sister resort in Maho Beach, the ones that were provided once of twice for shows cost extra. The specialty restaurants were good, but we weren't blown away. Only two beer choices, Heineken and Coors light (but the Rum drinks were plentiful!)
