fun times in mexico

Ocean Coral and Turquesa was a fun time. The restaurants were great. We went to a different one each night. We took two outings. One to the mayan ruins and caves. The second a snorkeling trip. The snorkeling trip was just okay, not a great variety of fish off the reefs we were exploring.(two different areas) The caves were enchanting. The buffet at Ocean Coral was less then satisfactory.. My boyfriend got sick the last day from something eaten at the buffet.. He had a miserable flight home. The room was very clean and nice.. It had a musty odor from the humidity but we had brought candles which offset the smell. The drinks were horrible. I tried a few but gave up after awhile and just kept to water.. I don't know if they water down the alcohol to keep the masses from becoming to drunk. I couldn't get a good margarita for the life of me. Overall it was a fun trip and nice time. Would I go back to this specific hotel. I don't think so..

The pools were very nice. The pool staff was great. Ivan was very friendly and a lot of fun. The Grease show was the best. The room was not so great. We requested an upper floor in advance and got a first floor room. The beds and pillows were very hard. The room smelled musty and the shower smelled like sewer. You would get bursts of scalding water, so if the pressure dropped you better get out of the way quick. There was seaweed all over the beach and in the ocean. Not many people got in the ocean. Had a terrible time getting in the restaurants. Don't even bother trying to get in the Japanese restaurant if you have a child under 14. They won't allow it. Spent one day at Xel-Ha. It was a great day! Lots to do and see. We spent one day shopping in Playa Del Carmen. Be sure to ask for Juan if you take a taxi. He was awesome and will stay and wait for you. All in all it was nice to get away but won't be going back to this resort.

DON'T GO TO THE OCEAN CORAL AND TURGUESA

Our trip to the hotel Ocean Coral & Turguesa was not a good one. We arrived at the hotel ready to enjoy the hospitality and sun in Cancun. We requested Ocean view rooms when we book the vacation and we were told it was up to the hotel when we arrive if we would get the ocean view room. When you arrive, you have an option to be on Privileged guest status or just a guest. We chose not to pay for the privilege status as it would have cost another $300 for the week per person (there were four of us, I only had to pay for 2, of course). We proceeded to our ground floor room as the ocean view we requested was not available to us as they told us those were all booked. Of course, ocean view was for the privilege status. As we opened the door to our room the mildew smell was atrocious. Our friends came to our room and said they could not possibly stay in such a horrible smelling room. We told the bellman we wanted different rooms and he said we should request them through the front desk as there were about 80 rooms that would be available as several guests were leaving and something would be available. We went to the front desk and were told the hotel was booked and there was nothing available for us to change. We were persistent. The man at the front desk kept checking and told us they could get us different rooms but we would have to wait until 3:30 check-in time the next day before we could make the change. Again that was not an option for us. It took approximately another 20-30 minutes to finally get different rooms. Once in the new room, (it smelled better, still mildew smell, but not as bad) we decided to get a drink and start our wonderful vacation. For this all inclusive, we had soda and water in the frig. I thought the all-inclusive included alcohol in our frig. The room was NEVER stocked with alcohol. When it rained, our closet started to leak and got my clothes drenched, the hotel did take care of cleaning them. They put multiple towels down on the floor and in the closet to try to keep the water from getting all over the room. No one came to FIX the roof leak. The buffet was okay. The Mexican Restaurant, the Italian and the Asian restaurants had to have reservations. We understand waiting, but had to wait almost 2 ½ hours at the Mexican restaurant. That is half an hour PAST our reservation time and another 2 hours before our last item was served. RIDICULOUS…I had three items, that’s it. We tried the Asian restaurant the food was good and we did not have to wait as long. We did not try the Italian as we did not want to wait again. If you wanted an alcoholic drink you had to go to a bar out by one of the pools or the bar in the lobby, which most of the time there was a long line to get your drink. If the alcohol was in a “glass case” you were only allowed that if you were Privilege status. We met a family that chose the privilege status, they offered to get drinks for us and went to the “Privilege bar, restaurant” of course, we went with them to help carry the drinks out, when arriving at the door, the girl refused to let the “regular” person in and told them they would have to wait outside. Our friends were so embarrassed for us and the treatment at the Privilege door. This was a definite separation in the have’s and have not’s. Kind of like the Titanic story. But most of the have’s at this hotel were middle class, just like us. When we got to enjoy the pool, there was seldom a pool side staff member that approached us to see if we would like a drink. You had to search them out or waive them down to get them to come over and wait on you (we tip nicely too) tips did not get them out to wait on you either. If you had privilege status it was slightly easier, but not much. Bottom line, I would NOT recommend the hotel Ocean Coral & Turguesa whether you decided to pay for Privilege status or heaven forbid stay a regular guest.

Great Vacation

Overall a great vacation. It rained the first few days we were there which wasn't ideal and took away from a lot of what this resort has to offer. for starters the lobby is the only place you get free wifi, so on a rainy day everyone at the resort is in there trying to connect which also makes the internet slower. they tried to schedule a few indoor activities like watching movies and games, but it made the lobby area very crowded and loud. but thats just the rainy days. for the sunnier days it was great! we never had a problem finding a seat at the bar pool, but you definitely need to get there before 11am. the activities pool was too much for us since we didnt have kids, but if you do there is plenty for them to do there. the other 2 pools were actually quieter and quite relaxing if that is what you are looking for. the bar service is pretty slow (even if you tip well). however, you can bring a mug of any size and the bartenders will fill them up, something i wish we knew before we went. this makes your trips less fequent therefore eliminating more waiting. they wont give shots but will give you drinks on the rocks. make sure you watch their pour or you might get a weaker drink. overall we were quite happy. The food at all of the restaurants was great. none take reservation so either get there before 6pm when they open or plan to wait awhile. the asian and the italian were our favorite. the mexican was also great! breakfast and lunch are both really only buffets, but eat a late breakfast and you could skip lunch. we did the snorkel tour which left from the resort which was nice and not that expensive. we did have other exursions planned but cancelled due to the rain. i suggest working with your tour or travel people to book excursions. we planned a deep sea fishing trip with Mario by the front desk and when we got on the boat the water was so choppy we got sea sick and had to leave after an hour. you would think that would have been a warning since it had been raining and storming so much but they only want your money and dont really care if your happy because you are leaving in a few days anyways and the next person will spend money. The rooms were nice. just remember you are in Mexico and its quite humid and muggy so almost nothing dries in the room and you probably want to wash all your clothes (even the ones you didnt wear) because the room are humid and moist. we had requested 1 kind bed and got 2 full size beds, but they came and pushed them together and added a strip over the seam which worked out fine. the shower area is kind of weird since there is a window to the room and where the tub is, then a seperate stand up shower. if you are travelling with other people i can imgaine it would be weirder. also anything in the giftshop is super expensive so dont forget your sunscreen! overall it was a nice resort, everyone is really friendly and i would recommend it.

Ocean Coral & Turquesa: Discover an All-Inclusive Adventure

Imagine gliding through clear blue waters, around a tropical reef teeming with colorful fish. Picture yourself exploring the wonders of a Mexican cenote, an underground source of water. These adventures, and others, are waiting for you at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa Resort.

Known as the gateway to Mexico's famous Riviera Maya, this all-inclusive resort is located in the quiet fishing village of Puerto Morelos. Its gorgeous coral formations attract divers from all over the world. Even if you are a beginner, you can experience them, too, since Ocean Coral & Turquesa offers introductory scuba lessons in the pool. The nearby Dive It! Diving Center is also available for PADI-diving courses or snorkeling excursions.

Besides out-of-this-world diving for adults, Ocean Coral & Turquesa makes sure kids have the time of their lives too. At Mini Club Daisy, kids 4-12 can set off on treasure hunts, play water sports, and put on shows. The older kids stay busy at the Teen's Club, with beach volleyball and kayaking. They can even get their daily video-game fix thanks to the five gaming stations.

At Ocean Coral & Turquesa, four pools, a children's pool and a Jacuzzi make your vacation wet-n-wild! Paddle over to the Blue Pool swim-up bar for a pina colada. After a day of play, it's time to head to one of the resort's seven restaurants. At Villa Marina, pair a grilled-seafood entree with a salt-rimmed margarita. In the mood for something lighter? Head to Le Petite Creperie for a sweet or savoury crepe. Meanwhile, Mike's Coffee is the spot for your morning tea or a little afternoon pick-me up.

To top it off, there's a daily activities program and nightly entertainment. Add in a seaside massage or a facial at the spa, and in no time at all, you'll be saying "Adios, real world... hola, paradise!
