Nice on the inside
....Not as nice on the outside. First let me say our room was great- clean, very big, comfortable, great closet and bath, with a balcony, a large sofa and updated amenities (including a fridge). Also the interior of the hotel, including all restaurants and bars were top notch, as was the service. There is also a Starbucks and an Enterprise car rental at the hotel, so getting your morning caffeine and renting a car for the day were a piece of cake. The downside was the pool and beach. It appeared from other reviews that the hotel was in the heart of Condado, however it is a short walk from Condado Beach. Also the pool area, lounge chairs and local beach were a little run-down. Overall the hotel was a very good value, but you may want to spend a little more and stay in one of the resorts that are right on Condado Beach!
We were in Puerto Rico last week for 5 nights staying at the Conrad.Check-in was a breeze. We arrived at the hotel at 11 am and were expecting to be told check-in was not until 4pm. Our first surprise, they not only let us check-in but gave us an upgrade to a lagoon veiw. The room was clean and modern, the veiw was ok,but we dont go on vacation to sit in our room anyway. Our next surprise was the pools and little nooks set up with lounge chairs, we found a secluded spot and sat ther almost every day. The beach was small but clean. Its a public beach but if you are staying at the Conrad they still provide chairs and towels. Since the beach is situated just inside the lagoon you get the crystal clear water without the really strong surf. All the staff were prompt and professional inside the hotel and out. On our last day we tried to get a late check-out since our flight was not until 5 pm. There were none available, but they do have a really nice, clean locker room by the pool bathrooms. The showers have dispensers with gel, shampoo, and conditioner. This allowed to have almost another whole day at the beach. We only ate at the Cafe for breakfast. Prices were reasonable. We only had a propblem ther one day. It took a really long time to get our food. The manager comped our food that morning. We did not eat in the other restaurants they seemed a little pricey. There were also really good restaurants in walking distance to the hotel. All price ranges. There was also a bus stop right next to the hotel. Its only 75 cents to take you into Old San Jaun vs 15 dollars in a cab. Make sure you have 3 quaters, they don't make change. Beware of prepaid excursions. They are overpriced. Cab rides from the airport are only $15.
The Bacardi Factory tour is free, To get there from hotel was only $4.25 for ferry and cab. You can do your on walking tour around OSJ.The forts are $3, with plaques telling about everything. Great restaurants and cafes all around OSj. We cant wait to go back!

This hotel is not a nice as i thought it would be, however it has great scenery for pictures. Close to restaurants and bar. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was mediocre. Great outdoor area overlooking the water.

How much would you estimate for food since this is not an all inclusive package?11 answers
1 year, 23 months ago
There were 2 of us and we arrived Wednesday evening and left Sunday afternoon and our total spent on food was about $100/day
Riu is all inclusive
Food in Puerto Rico (at least in Old SAn Juan and Condado ) is very expensive. Hotel is outrageous so find otherwise, very cheap alternative is subway for lunch and Starbucks or subway for breakfast, both within walking distance. Dinner for 2 at least $75-100 with 1 drink each, if drink more,,,expect to add more. Lunch was at least $40 or more for two.
For a couple about $160.. a day food is very expensive!!
other areas of the resort were charging $48 per day per person. But the food component was obviously cheaper at the hotel.
That would depend on how often and hungry you are. The prices are comparable to regular restaurant prices. There are local eateries in walking distance. I eat five small meals per day so I felt one meal was way too much food. I resorted to eating appertizers. Gratuity included in most places.
For a couple we spent approx. $400.00 for seven days. That included drinks that we purchased from the liquor store. A few groceries and snacks to keep in the room The food in the hotels was pricey. So we walked a couple blocks down from the hotel and found many different eateries along the strip that were inexpensive. A complete breakfast for two less than $20.00.
A dish range from. $10-$40. Average about $20 for an entree.
I always say... don't go on vacation, on a Walmart budget. And depending on how much you eat, and drink... average about $100 a day, for 2 people. But I do enjoy myself on vacation.
From my experience, if you eat at the hotel, don't expect to pay less than $15 per meal.
I would plan for food expenses to be similar to those that you find in the continental US. Restaurants onsite are as spendy as domestic restaurant hotels. There are some restaurants in the area, but not many. In Condado, the best place we ate at was Tijuana's. Unbelievable!!
Old San Juan offers a wide variety of restaurant choices. If you want something really cheap, you're basically stuck with fast food places that you'd find elsewhere. Most restaurants we choose were sit down style places with menu price points anywhere from $10 to $40 a plate. We did plan ahead a bit and purchased some Groupons for Puerto Rico (www.groupon.com.pr). This helped us same some money, but also presented a challenge since we didn't know where many of the places were.
If you are drinkers, buy your booze from the duty free store at the airport before heading into Old San Juan. The drinks at the hotel are generally good, but expensive.
There are so many restaurants withing walking distance of the hotel that we only ate at the hotel once. We paid $15 to $20 for a dinner at a local restaurant.
If u eat at the hotels restaurants or any where on the strip, for 2 people expect to drop $20-30 for breakfast, $60-70 for lunch and $80/100+ for dinner.
Downtown and Old San Juan offer way less and far more yummy food options that would run u as low as $6 for 2 empanadas and 2 soft drinks. However a taxi is going to run you about $30 round trip to there. The bus is only .75 cent per person each way ;-)
Food in PR is pricey.
How do I make arrangements for a person in a wheelchair?3 answers
1 year, 23 months ago
If a passenger is travelling with their own wheelchair I would suggest booking with an agent so that they can contact the resort to confirm that there are handicap accessible rooms available and can request one when booking. These requests are not guaranteed and are subject to availability. If the individual would like to rent a wheelchair at the resort you would need to arrange that directly with the resort as there may be additional costs incurred. An agent may be able to assist with that as well.
Cheap Carribean also have great customer service and the price does not change when you make arrangements by phone. The hotel is wheelchair accessible.
You can contact the hotel concierge Miss. Leah Rossi. I don't have the contact number right off hand but if go onto the trip advisor site and punch in Conrad San Juan, you can find the telephone number. Ask for her and i'm sure she can assist you with whatever you need. She is great. Enjoy your trip
By specifying that you need a handicap accessable room..
Prices are based on "double occupancy". What if 3 of us are travelling?9 answers
1 year, 23 months ago
I would suggesthat the 3rd person pay a half-price charge like when you book 3 in a cabin on a cruise ship.
I traveled with three and I think the pricing was pretty close to linear - 1.5X the price of just a couple. The room is adequately sized for 3, but the bathroom was a bit cramped.
Prices are based on double occupancy. If you add a third person to the reservation it will then calculate itself with an "extra adult" in the room. The first two adults will be charged as a double occupancy rate and the third will be charged as an "extra adult". If you need assistances for pricing please contact CheapCaribbean at 1.800.915.2322.
Room sleeps four with two double beds. So don't worry you will have plenty of room.
That was a downside as there were 5 of us travelling. The odd person does end up paying more. There was no way around it short of 3 in a room.
Is the third one under 18? If they are, the rate is the same.
You can book 3 people, their price may be a lil higher. You would get a room with 2 double beds.
I travel on a budget. I recommend eating at the local eateries. They also have Subway and Wendy's on the strip. I stayed for a 4 day and I payed probably about $30-$35 days.
Have the third person just book the flights separately assuming you all want to stay in the same room with the two of you that are booking a package deal.
Where is smoking allowed in Puerto Rico if anywhere.4 answers
Is smoking allowed in any of the rooms at the Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza?
1 year, 14 months ago
No, smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the resort.
You can smoke outside on the balcony of your room.
Definitely not - there are assigned common areas that allow smoking. Such as the beach and outside decks.
No smoking rooms but I had a room with a balcony and smoked there. There is an outdoors smoking area on the ground level as well. No smoking casino as well ; (
Is there a resort fee? If so is it included in the rate that I am quoted?7 answers
I am looking to purchase a 4 night stay with airfare but before I book I wanted to know if there is an additional resort fee that we are charged at check-in?
1 year, 14 months ago
At CheapCaribbean.com, we don't like our clients to have any surprises when they are on vacation, therefore we include all resort fees, maid fees, energy surcharges, etc. in the pricing of our vacation packages.
Just for your incidentals..nd credit card r debit card...
I paid no additional fees except parking at the Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza, they were already included in the price of the trip.
We did not pay any additional fees for our stay. But do check the final bill that they put under your door the last night. 2 out of three rooms had charges for items that we didn't purchase.
No resort fee on my trip last week. You will just pay for any room extras, purchases etc.
I wasn't charged a resort fee but was surprised when I had to pay $16.3 a day to park my rental car.
They do a "Pre-Authorization" on a credit card of your choice at check in. The dollar amount would be $200. They don't actually charge you that, but it is a pre-authorization in case of incidentals. You would need to have a credit or debit card with at least $200 available on it to have them swipe. There is a daily resort fee that should be included in your room total once you book. This fee is different than the incidental fee.
Since we are 3 and the pricing is based on double occupancy, do you suggest that I book one extra person and get 2 double rooms?3 answers
1 year, 13 months ago
When pricing for 3 people the resort considers the 3rd person to be an extra adult which is lower rate than the first 2 people on the reservation. To recieve the best pricing option for you please contact us at 1.800.915.2322.
Maybe so..the beds are platform beds and room is a lil tight...you maybe better off getting the extra room...
If you don't mind sleeping in the same bed, just have the third person book the flights only and have them stay with you in your room. Two queen beds is plenty. The rooms are very spacious.
Is there any resort in puerto rico that offers and all inclusive meal/beverage plan? What is the "america" plan?5 answers
1 year, 13 months ago
All resorts in Puerto Rico do not offer an all inclusive option.
No. I discovered Puerto Rico only has European plans. But, I stayed at the Conrad San Juan Condado. This location provided me with inexpensive meal (Denny's, Chiji's) and entertainment options within walking distance. So no need to pay high hotel prices for food and beverage.
No place in Puerto Rico offers all inclusive....not an option
There is no "all inclusives" in PR
NO. PR is the only caribbean island that does not offer an all inclusive meanl/beverage plan. However, the prices are very resonable for food.

Not if you live in the US.
If you are a US Citizen with a valid government issued ID (example Drivers License) you do not have to have a passport to go there.
You do not need a passport. You only need to have State ID, but be sure to bring a copy of your birth certificate just in case.
No, Puerto Rico is a U.S.Territory. If you plan to visit other surounding islands, you may bring it to land at a British or French island.
If you live in the US and have a US Driver's license or state issued id, you do not need a passport. We were confused as in the paperwork sent from cheapcaribbean summarizing our package details it mentioned to bring a passport. But as a US Citizen you do not need one to travel to Puerto Rico.

Yes, there are kid slides at the pool.
Not really. There is a kids club but it only has a few coloring books and a lot of play dough which is what my daughter played with. A big television but nothing was playing. A few games but you have to ask for the pieces. I didn't bother there was no one around to even ask it to.
There is a very nice beach, pool and boat reantal at the lower level
right side. There is also a pool slide into the pool. people can order food and drinks at the pool area.

How far is this hotel from the night life?7 answers
10 months ago
The Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza does offer three bars as well as a 12,500 sq ft casino for evening entertainment. There are night clubs in the area, and the resort is located approximately 10 minutes from the city center where more entertainment is located.
A short 3-5 minute walk depending on where you want to stop there are a few in the condado strip.
There are restaurants & clubs very nearby...all within walking distance.
Very close by taxi but be prepared to spend alot of money because the taxis charge 15 dollars for most trips and more late night.
The night life for me are great restaurants. There is a place down the street called, Mexicana Puerto Rico, that has excellent food and great service and I am not even a fan of mexican food.
It's pretty close, there are a lot of bars and restaurants walking distance from this hotel
Not far, there are lots of lounges in the area, and clubs in a few of the hotels about a 10 minute drive away.

If I arrive early to the hotel, will I be able to check in early or at least will they hold my luggage until the room is ready.

Check in for the Conrad begins at 4:00 and we recommend speaking with them directly regarding their policy on holding bags--this is a courtesy that is subject to change from resort to resort. The Conrad can be reached at 888-722-1274.
We arrived very early in the morning on a weekeday and they did let us check in early because rooms were available. They do have a place to hold your luggage safely if you can't check in right away. They also gave us a later checkout time.
We were told we could check in earlier if the room was available. Unfortunately, ours was not. However, you keep your luggage there and go out and have a good time.
