Bait and switch

My wife and I wanted to celebrate her birthday and Valentine's Day with our first trip to a romantic adults only resort. We were told when we checked in that the la perla side of the resort was over booked and we would have no choice but to stay in the la Esmeralda "family side of the resort " We are 60 and wanted a nice quit get away. First attempt at a room was on the first floor with a nice patio 25 ' away from the kids water side pool. REALLY !! Don't get me wrong we love kids and families but we have raised ours and wanted Quiet. Finally moved us up two floors but still facing the kids pool. Room was very nice service was top notch. So for us to go to adult side of the complex it was either a $3 golf cart ride or a 20 minute walk. Best food was room service breakfast. Most of the restaurant food was fair to bad and very bland. Beach was nice but getting into the water was tough because of the rocky bottom in most areas. This was our first trip to a Mexican resort. We will do it again but will not use cheap Caribbean again or stay at Paradisus again. And the odd part of our story is that we saw many vacant rooms on the adult side during our stay as we spent most of our time there during our stay.

Amazing Experience for First Trip To Mexico

We stayed at Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perla for our very first trip to Mexico (or anywhere tropical). The facilities were beautiful and modern and the all of the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. At night, the music that is playing all around the resort was on the loud side and we could hear it in our room, even with everything closed. We were never hassled with time share offers or to book extra excursions or services at the resort. We were given a schedule of the different resort activities at check-in, which was great but ended up not being completely inclusive of everything available. For example, we did not learn until our third or forth day that Yoga was offered every morning, except Sundays. We also did not know that the resort had kayaks, catamarans, paddle boards, etc. available for guest use until we asked someone. Having a complete list of everything offered would have made our stay that much better. It was also disappointing that the Tequila Tasting included with the resort is only offered one day (which we missed). We ended up paying (~$17 per person) for the tequila tasting at Don Julio as we wanted this experience while in Mexico. The Cigar Making class with Ivan was incredibly interesting and something worth doing! We elected to book the Royal Service option, which was so worth it! Having a pool separate from the louder/busier main adults only pool as well as separate beach and restaurant made our trip incredibly relaxing. Our butler, Armando, was extremely helpful with getting us set-up with restaurant reservations and making sure we took advantage of what the Royal Service package had to offer. We enjoyed the live music by the Royal Service pool on the Friday of our stay. We were not disappointed with any of our meals at the different restaurants on site. Our favorite restaurant was La Palapa, which was the Royal Service exclusive restaurant. We had a little bit of a wait for the food at Mole, but it was still great. The hibachi restaurant was what we expected for hibachi in Mexico, but the experience itself was long and awkward with lots of long waiting periods that seemed out of place and an exhaust fan that made it difficult to have conversation with others. The room service menu was really confusing. We did not realize until after some confusing conversation with room service staff that the options listed were all a la carte and not actual meals. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort to family and friends. Our experience at Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perla will be hard to beat!

Best All Inclusive Resort ever!!

Staying at the Paradisus LaPerla was the best decision we ever made. The resort is only five years old and is beautifully maintained and the staff is over the top and bends over backwards to meet your every request. I had some anxiety about booking the trip through a discount travel web site and thought that I might be assigned a room in a less than desirable location, but that didn't happen. We stayed at the LaPerla Resort right before Christmas (Dec 16-23) and had booked the Royal Service (which I highly recommend). We arrived later than expected because of airplane mechanical issues but the check-in process was excellent and efficient. A glass of champagne was delivered, our beautiful resort wrist bands issued, and we were off to our room and received an orientation on where everything was and how it worked by one of the members of the Butler staff. The Butler had such great customer service and saw that we were traveling with our college-aged daughter, that she automatically ordered additional hangars. The double wardrobes and large volume of drawers ensured that our clothes and all three suitcases were put away appropriately and out of eye sight. The Butler then booked us into one of the restaurants so we could enjoy a late dinner and a few drinks before heading back to our room. The next morning we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at LaPalapa, the private Royal guest restaurant and met what would turn out to be the best waiter at the resort, Renau. We requested him every time we dined there and it turned out to be but one morning and several times that week for lunch. Our Butler, Napoleon, took care of our dining reservations for the entire week along with my husband's spa appointments. Napoleon also arranged for my husband's shirts to be steamed to remove wrinkles, delivered complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, and we even returned to our room on two separate occasions to bubble baths; one in our patio Jacuzzi and the other in the bathroom tub. The pools were fun and relaxing and the service staff at both of these locations were friendly and efficient. Every dinner restaurant was excellent and we even splurged and dined at the 5 star Passion restaurant (which has an additional fee of about $90/per person). The additional fee was well worth it and the entire experience was outstanding. My daughter commented that she loved the presentation and it was definitely "art!" The beach does have some rocks that you have to tolerate to get far enough out to enjoy the sand but walking along the beach is so beautiful and there is also a Royal section only portion of the beach. Another note is that the adults section of LaPerla is separate from the family section of LaEsmeralda and you really only experience the "child factor" if your dining reservations are on the early side. In fact, we only had a child nearby on two evenings when we opted for 7pm and 7:30pm reservations. After 8pm, the children and their families are restricted to the "family" restaurants. This was such an amazing resort that we never felt the need to leave and travel into town. As I mentioned, we have visited the Cancun area several times previously but this was the best all-inclusive experience in Mexico and we are already planning to return to this resort again next year. For comparison purposes, we had previously stayed at several Iberostar and Princess resorts. Those are great but the Paradisus LaPerla is spectacular! You will not regret staying at the all-adults resort, Paradisus LaPerla so book your reservation today!

travel at heart

This place was great in most area except service. Some waiters, waitress and hostess went far and beyond as well as having others who gave poor service. One night on the restaurant the Grill. You have to make reservation before going. But we were already there and the place was empty. We ask if they would seat us anyone and the hostess was very rude and did it as if he was forced to. This gave me and my friends a bad taste that we lost our appetite to eat. We got up after they served us water and left the place. This bad experience cost them 2 rebooking to return and visit this location again.

What's to Love

Hanging with other beach-loving adults at this all-inclusive luxury resort.

Drinking deliciously yummy martinis at "M Bar." Cheers.

Unwinding from a relaxing day beachside. Dip in the Jacuzzi on your balcony if you want.

Upgrading room to Royal Service - luxury suites, private pool, Bali beds at the beach. So worth it.

Two full-time staff members that are dedicated to guests' experience, i.e., spoiling you rotten.

What We'd Change

Rooms are modern and comfortable but can seem dark. With all there is to do, you won't be in the room before dark anyway.

Why You Should Go

Once you land, you're just a short 45-minute from beachy bliss.

Lots of party-inspired classes - tequila tastings, wine tastings, tango lessons.

Zen-like activities, too. Pilates, stretching, meditation. Time to disconnect.

Booking time at YHI spa and melting into a massage, facial treatment or the plunge pool.

You can shimmy over to La Esmeralda. You've got access to their amenities.
