Had a good time
Overall we had a good time. The rooms are nice and clean and all the service staff were awesome. The front desk staff wasn't that cheerful though. Just be forewarned that they tend to serve alcohol that is on the lower end. Save yourself the headaches and hangover and purchase a GOOD bottle of tequila when you go into town.

Had a blast
For the price you pay to go to an all inclusive resort you can't complain at all! We had an amazing time everything at the resort was great, only one thing to improve maybe some better directions with the ride to and from the resort once you land.
The staff were wonderful - very friendly and helpful. Had no issues from the time we checked in until we left on our "walk of shame" to head home. Resonably close to the downtown area (7 minute taxi ride). Loved the variety and quality of the food. Bed was comfortable, but the TV picture quality was poor - but didn't spend that much time watching anyway.

Relaxing...
I went to the Riu with my boyfriend last week and we had a wonderful time! We had previously considered the Me Cabo, but after walking down the beach and checking it out, we realized we had made the best choice with the Riu! The hotel was clean, safe, in a perfect location with young people, older couples and families. The staff was very friendly and the service was impeccable! We loved the food and buffets as well. Our Olympus representative helped us pick some great excursions as well. Loved the sushi in town as one of the highlights! Unforgettable :D

There are quite a few in the area. I suggest asking our Olympus rep or checking out the recommendations here

There are several to choose from. Some are cheaper others are more exclusive for customizing. Lots of choices are there. Go at Marina and there are stalls/agents of many other companies there.
Mani
We took a 1/2 day trip, $280 plus tip with Marina 3. Great crew, 28th older boat but the price was right. Viviana charters has nice boats, but more money.

Can you swim on the beach in front of the resort?11 answers
1 year, 23 months ago
Susan
yes indeed
muddymont
yes you certainly can even at night but just be careful when the waves are really high
Mregt
Yes, but depends on the weather (wave) condition. The waves are quite big.
alwa
The beach in front of the resort is not safe for swimming. Some dare devils do, but at their own risk. The waves form quickly and break, more like crash into the shore. However you can walk 100 yards in either direction and get some beach swimming in.
Carcar
Yes you can although the waves were pretty big. There is a private ripped off area on the beach for the resort goers only. This is great as the merchants can not encroach on this space. We rented a jet ski on the each in from for $40 and had a great time. I would recommend this resort. We just got back this week.
LVFam
No. you cannot swim at the beach in front of the resort. You will have to go further down closer to the marina....
Hardy19
No you can not. The waves are extremely strong and there is no life guard. I tried for 5 minuets I lost my control and ocean took my $200 worth sunglasses. Do not do it.
mba44
No you can't, the waves and undertow are way too strong. You can take a water taxi to lovers beach (about 10 minutes away) but even then the tide is very strong and not ideal for weak swimmers or kiddo's.
getawaygal
There were a few swimmers at the beach, but the tide was quite rough. Also, the sand is rough and beach is quite steep. Much nicer at Puerto Vallarta.
riptide2688
Not reccomended as the under tow is Dangerous.
jpalermola
no you can not, the under tow is too great

Does the resort have snorkel equipment available to rent? If so, is it included or are there additional fees?3 answers
1 year, 12 months ago
Dani
Because the beach is not swimmable , it does not appear that this resort offers complimentary snorkel gear. There may be a dive shop near by or on the premises that will rent equipment for an additional cost.
ccsusan1
Yes it was available, but I would not snorkel in that area due to the large undertoe and how rough the waves are there.
KellyandGreg
No. The resort is not involved in offering any activity. Everything is outsources. Those companies provide all inclusive packages with the gear and food.

Yes and no. Building 7 is on the water. The other 6 building are located behind the sister resort (next door). I was told (by another guest) you can request building 7 if it's not full and you'll likely get it. We stayed in building 3 (which is more centrally located to the gym, food and main entrance etc.)
Midwesterner1
Yes.
TravelKatRN
yes on the beach, BUT beach is NOT swimmable. Lots of current & undertow, large waves. There are 3 swimmable beaches in the area, possibly could walk to one.
ach11
yes but you can not swim there
justyna1
Cheapcaribbean.com's photos of the Santa Fe are actually photos of the Riu Palace! The Santa Fe is NOT beach front and does NOT have any ocean view rooms. The properties do NOT allow you to hop between the two resorts either.
TforTravel
Yes. Right on the beach. It is pretty good and clean. Slightly crowded but travel sideways from the resort to find lonliness.

Is there a Scuba Diving operation at the resort?5 answers
If Not, what operators are in the area that provide resort pickup service?
St Joe Mo
According to the resort's page, scuba diving facilities are located nearby the resort and are an additional charge.
MariaCC
there is an operation on the beach right at the RIU i believe they are affiliated.
Bigbabyjezus
Yes, onsite is Scuba Caribe. We did not dive this trip, but we saw the counter there. You access it from the beach side. There are also Reps from lots of tour groups onsite in the lobby that can set-up scuba trips too.
ach11
Not at the resort. Outside companies are represented at the resort in the lobby.
Mani
There is a scuba booth at the resort, the water in front of the resort is not swimmable, but I'm sure the scuba booth makes the arrangements.

are any of the beaches topless sun bathing or nude? how far is it from the airport and do you need a passport?
ny
You are required to have a valid passport to enter and exit Mexico. The Riu Santa Fe is 25 miles from the airport. There are no nude/topless beaches at this resort.
KristenCC
No. No topless or nude as far as I know....possibly at ME at the Melia or Desires resort however. From the airport its about 25 miles. Yes of course you need a passport! Its a FOREIGN country...
Julio
Not that I am aware of! Lovers Beach has areas where you see love birds in hanky panky postures and entangled beaks!
Mani
That's an absolute no. Definitely frowned upon.
Hockeykittie
The airport is about a 45 min taxi ride to the Riu Santa Fe. None of the beaches I saw were topless/nude. Yes, you do need a passport not matter if you are 100 yrs. old or 1 month old.
blissfullbeach
I didn't see any nude sun bathing or topless beaches around the resort. It's about 40min from the airport. A passport is required if u are traveling from another country
Djk21010
None of the nearby beaches are designated for clothing optional. The RIU is about 30-45 minutes from the San Jose Cabo airport, depending on time fo day. Cabo is on the Baja California peninsula which is part of Mexico, so you definitely need a passport for travel to/from the U.S.

is jan a busy time to be there im looking for a romantic time with my husband i dont want to be at a party central hotel or girls gone wild . i dont want it to be over crowded . and how many bars are in the all included ? how many resturants are there and what kind ? how many do i need to make reservations for
5 months ago
ny
February is busier then January. There are 7 Bars/Lounges and a nightclub. There are 5 restaurants. The Italian and Asian restaurants require reservations.
KellyCC
Jan is possibly high or busy season for any resort in Mexico as its the best weather of the year...at least mid 80"s more than likely. I just returned from there with my wife celebarting our anniversary. Its a place where you can find quiet spots or be with the noist party crowd. I think there were at least 5-6 smaller outdoor bars and a couple indoors including a sports bar. Its a huge resort but we never felt crowded....You will need to make reservations at 4 of the specialty restaurants usually the day of your dinner....sounds odd but there is a reservation desk by the front checkin counter just to make rest reservations.....open from 7am-4pm or so. We had a great time!
Julio
January is a pretty busy month for Canadians traveling to Cabo but it's nothing wild. Lots of couples ranging in age from 20s to 60s. It's very laid back though.
TforTravel
You will be fine. There are four restaurants on site. Many common Bars and Pools areas. The facility has something going on around the clock. Asian, Steak House and Mexican + one other. Res. are made at least a day in advance. Common eatery is also pretty good. There are some outside areas not commonly used by average hoggers inside the hall, offering little more privacy.
Mani
don't go to the RIU SANTA FE then.

a Marina in Cabo San Lucas MO dock6 answers
im looking at one of the excursion a Marina in Cabo San Lucas MO dock and i want to know the distance from there to the hotel and how can i arrange transportation to and from there
5 months ago
ar
Its about 12 $ from Riu Santa Fe....just ask the bellman at the entrance to the resort to get you a taxi....and then have them drop you off at the wyndam hotel by the Marina. The MO dock is right in front of it. Distance? Maybe 2-3 miles?....it seems longer since the taxi needs to get on the roadway heading back to San Jose before making a U turn as there is not a road entrance directly to Cabo except for this way. On the other hand you could simply walk on the beach into town/marina.....again about a 2 mile walk on the beach
Julio
Sailing is very close on 2km from the hotel. Many tour operators include hotel pick up but please verify first.
KellyCC
The public transport system is excellent. You pay only a dollar or better yet just 10 pesos. The frequency is pretty good. Just outside of the hotel gate up to the marina! My daughter and I enjoyed it as we traveled several times to go to town for shopping and other activities.
Mani
it's a 12 us dollar cab ride. ten minute ride.
beentheredonethat144
I went on the sunset dinner cruise excursion which docks out of the marina. Transportation was provided to me and my husband as part of the excursion. It was about a 15 mins ride from the resort.
YR22
It's about a mile, there is easy access to taxi's - about $12 each way to the marina and it's a short ride.

is the water drinkable here or is it like most places in mexico were you can no drink the water or bath in it to long . and if you cannot drink it do i had to pay for additional waterbottles
4 months ago
ar
It is not recommended to drink the water in Cabo, as with all other areas of Mexico. Most resorts will provide bottled water as part of the all-inclusive, however you would be best to check with the resort directly for the most up to date information.
KristinCC
The water is drinkable out of the faucet and the mini bar is stocked with water bottles. All bars will give you purified water.
TforTravel
No.
Mani
They stock you refrigerator in the room with bottled water.
beentheredonethat144
I was able to drink the water provided to me at the restaurant and the bottles that were in the rooms. I also had ice in my drinks and never got sick. I think you are safe. I have a very sensitive stomach and i was good the whole time i was there.
YR22
All of the water at the resort is purified and there is bottled water free of charge in the room refrigerator.
Beachlover75
The hotel provides you with free bottled water but the water served in the restaurants is definately safe!
umkie
Yes, you can drink the water it's safe. If your still not convienced go all-inclusive and you can have bottled water
Redreign
The tap water is degnated as non-drinkable, but the quality resorts (like Riu) provide good drinking water in the restaurants, and free bottled water in your room.

You will receive a wristband upon arrival at the Riu Santa Fe.
The All Inclusive features include:
Breakfast, snacks, theme buffets
Local and imported beverages, including mini bar
Daytime/evening entertainment programs
RiuLand kids' club
Taxes and gratuities
There are two swimming pools, one with adjoining Jacuzzi, two small pools with swim-up bars, and a children's swimming pool. Guests are treated to complimentary sun loungers, towels and parasols by the pool.
There are no exchange privileges between the Riu Properties.
KristenCC
you get a wrist band. you can only get service at the RIU you are at and can not go next door
beentheredonethat144
You get a red Santa Fe wrist band. All food and liquor (except bottle service) is included. Room service is not included. They told us there was not a VIP package. If you stay at the Santa Fe you can not use the palace, but If you stay at the palace you can use the Santa Fe property. The Santa Fe has 3 infinity pools and 2 regular pools that you can use.
Beachlover75
You do get a wrist band that specifically says SFE, you can visit next door but you can not use any of their facilities. The pools at the Santa Fe are better, so that shouldn't be a concern. Save the money and stay at the Santa Fe. The Palace has a snobby atmosphere.
Hockeykittie
You do have to wear wristbands the entire time you are at the resort. The Riu Palace is next door, the people from there can come to the Santa Fe but we were not allowed to go to the Palace. All food, beverages, alcohol, room is included in all inclusive. You can be at any of the pools on the Santa Fe grounds.
blissfullbeach
Yes, everyone gets a wrist band. All inclusive includes all meals and drinks. I'm not sure about a VIP package, I didn't ask, but it doesn't seem like they have one. If you want something more exclusive then spend the extra money and stay at the Riu Palace. Those who are staying at the Santa Fe cannot visit the Palace but those staying at the Palace can visit the Santa Fe. Yes, you can visit all 3 pools that are at the Santa Fe.

About half a mile. The pools are wonderful though.
Cahill082185
about a 5 min. walk down the beach.
steelcowboyallen
2 min walk down the beach towards the marina. You will see the roped off swimming area. Some people were swimming right off the hotel beach, but they have big waves and a strong under tow.

A public swimming beach is about a 15 minute walk up the beach, or a 5-7 minute taxi ride

back evening, the resort also provides excellent live entertainment in each

Cabos! Long before the peninsula boasted world-class golf courses and Cabo San
Lucas laid claim to its hip nightlife, fishermen trekked to Los Cabos for the
magnificent marlin fishing. Terrific vistas, non-stop fun and quiet spots make
