DO NOT sign up for the Deal of Fortune SunScape

DO NOT sign up for the Deal of Fortune. Cheap Caribbean will always put in in Sunscape which is horrible. Beach: When I booked a trip to the Caribbean I expected to see crystal clear water and a beautiful beach. The beach was horrible (!) and definitely not what I was expecting. The sand bars that the hotel installed in the water are terrible and they trap the water and sea weeds making the water stagnant and smelly. There was always someone cleaning but the beach was always filled with sea weeds and a pile of sea weeds was stored right on the beach so we there was also a bad smell coming from this fermenting sea weeds. The entire point of going to the Dominican Republic is for the beach and sea but we didn't want to swim in this stagnant, smelly water full of sea weeds. Food: You would think for being in the Carribean there would be plenty of good food. I never had problems with food or drinks in other resorts in Mexico, Puerto Rico etc.but at Sunscape the food was awful and I was sick after first meal. I couldn't even enjoy drinks so I think the water for ice is not cleaned/ filtered properly. Also, there was not much variety of food. The same thing was served for lunch dinner and breakfast and none of it was good. For Carribean resort I would expect a lot of fresh fruits but the fruits they served were not even fully ripped. Also, all food was served in the open building whit out air condition, so food served at 7 am for breakfast wasn't so fresh three hours later with temperature above 80F, similar for lunch and dinner. For 10 days I had coffee with toast for breakfast and lunch, the only safe food I could eat without any stomachache. Airport transportation: Amstar was handling transportation to and from hotel. We had to wait in the line for 45 minutes at the airport at the Amstar desk in the above 80F temperature without any AC so they can take us to the bus. There were four Amstar reps at the desk but only one was assisting passengers. Going back we had a flight at 1:10pm but Amstar decided we had to leave hotel at 9:30am. We asked them several time to change our transportation to 10:30 am but Amstar representatives (Domingo Ramirez) at the hotel ignored our request, he was ignorant and rude. We thought they will have a bus full of people at 9:30am and this is why they do not want to provide extra bus for us. It turned out that we were the only two people leaving the hotel at 9:30am and we were picked up by minivan. We were at the airport at 10am and at 10:30 we were already at the gate and we spend next three hours waiting for the plane. Entertainment and Spa: The entertainment group was doing a great job during day but evening shows were not good quality. The spa is excellent. VIP Sonoma Adventure trip offered by Amstar at hotel: Do not waste your money on the trip. The food wasn't good, only grilled chicken and lobster were eatable. The worst part was snorkeling which was between 20-30 boats and catamarans parked not to far from loading dock. Even if at some point there was something to see there it is now gone due to the boats and catamarans traffic. We were not able to see anything. If you want to go snorkeling go to Florida or somewhere else. Summary: Based on this trip experience I will never book another trip with Cheap Caribbean.

Great Time

Glad we didn't listen to other reviews. You just can't please some people. We had a great time. Food choices are nice. No reservations required and no dress up required(Unlike many all inclusive resorts). Complex is very large but laid out nicely. The service was great. Friendly staff! Entertainment staff was wonderful. Sea Pro at the beach made it easy to book excursions.Sea weed this time of year is bad but its bad up and down all of Bavaro Beach so its the same at many resorts. Bartenders were great. Didn't have high end alcohol choices but went thru several brands to find a very good choice on a local brand. Overall had a great family vacation.

Ok purchase

I will be purchasing from cheap carribean again they have alot of great deals however i will not purchase another deal of fortune. It was a great deal the resort was nice but the room was an issue. My bestfriend and i went to DR for her 30th birthday. We booked last minute and didnt want to spend a fortune on a vacation. Anywho we stayed at Sunscape Bavaro Beach Punta Cana resort. The resort itself was beautiful the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only comcern was the room it was very nice but it had an odor that wouldnt go away, we asked other ppl on the resort and they all had the same complaint. My other complaint with the room is the sheets they werent clean they werent fresh we asked for clean ones they brought them the next day. The bathroom was very tidy but we didnt have wash rags now i dont know if this is dominican tradition but i feel resorts should supply these. My only other issue was the beach had alot of coral everywhere and it was very small but it still was nice. If the resort were to fix these lil quirks i would give it an A+ and def go back

Not a 4 start resort

I am very huge fan of Cheapcarribean but this is not a 4 start resort. It's not super bad either. The room was nice we had housekeeping every day she was good. The bartenders can work on their customer service skills . Stick to beer or mama juana. The beach is not very nice but I personally didn't care. The hotel facilities are nice. We had some awesome servers, but they are counted. Some of them you can see don't want to be there. The food could be better as well and more variety would be appreciated. If you visit the Italian, the Chopstick or the French restaurants be prepare to sweat, no airconditioning but food is good. Music is nice and I personally love the lobby area and the breakfast bufett. We did not get sick as the other people posted on thier review and the check-in was fast!! What I really appreciated was the fact that some employees went out of the way when I asked for milk for my kids and one actually went to another restaurant to get mote grapes!! I would get 1 or 2 liters of milm every day to take them to my room! The entertainment people are nice too.! Give it a chance but if you have visited 4 or 5 start resorts you'll notice the difference!

What's to Love

Assuming rock star status while checking in on the red carpet and nibbling on treats.

Kids get a passport that will kick off a scavenger hunt (read: keeps them occupied so you can chill)

The Pirate Ship Excursions - grab your eye patches and hop aboard.

The teal waters that hug El Cortecito Beach, which will hypnotize you for hours.

Swimming with dolphins - Bucket List item you must do.

Scuba diving - there's a fee, but dive in. It's a memory-making kind of thing.

Snagging a boat over to the sublime Saona Island - an unforgettable day trip.

The indoor theater with spectacular shows. Order a drink and prepare to be "wowed."

What We'd Change

Sometimes it's hard to find complete peace at the pool, but this is a family-friendly resort so lots of young ones will be splashing around.

Why You Should Go

It's only 25 minutes from the airport - Instant Happiness is very close.

You can go reef exploring, whale watching or for less water, hang out in a floating spa.

Isla Catalina is near and has dramatically beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling & diving.

The resort can arrange an intimate dinner - just for two - in a variety of romantic spots.

Play a round at the Cocotal Golf Course designed by the famous Pepe Gancedo.

Hoyo Azul, a natural lagoon of crystalline water, is 38 minutes away. It's breathtaking.

Water sports rule here with catamaran sailing, snorkeling cruises, and deep sea fishing.

The 16th century Mediterranean village, Altos de Chavon, is a must-see.
