It's the little things.

My overall stay was amazing. Me & my family had a great time. The majority of the employees were helpful but there were a few that had attitudes. The rooms were beautiful & clean. My room was on the second floor so we had a balcony with a great view of the pool. The pool was never packed mainly because there is 3 of them & the beach was a short walk away. The beach is always kept clean as well. The prices for the pictures taken on the resort were really expensive at $10 USD per picture. My one other complaint is that the liquor sucked. I didn't enjoy the drinks at all. The good Liquor is in the VIP section of the resort. Other than that, good price for a beautiful stay.

Overall nice property

Stayed at the Occidental Punta Cana 05/31/2017 to 06/07/2017. The Occidental Punta Cana is only a short trip from the airport, arriving at the resort, the only minor problem is Cheap Caribbean had not issued us a hotel voucher, but this was resolved with minimal inconvenience. The room was very good, large with a king size bed, two sofas and a balcony with table and chairs. The balcony also had a large Jacuzzi tub, which is nice, but be aware the light above the tub is set on a timer and doesn't go off until after 11:00 p.m., and there's no other way to turn it off before then. The bathroom was on the small side, but nice amenities, with a partially enclosed shower, no tub. The AC in the room, unfortunately, was hit or miss, the thermostat did not work well at all. It was rather warm in the room upon arrival, it's one of those rooms where you have to put your key card in the wall slot for the lights and AC to come on, so the room was not cool at all. We took to leaving one of the key cards in the room when we went out to keep the AC on, but this didn't seem to work well either. Out of 7 nights the room was actually cool only on 2 of them, and the ceiling fan only seemed to push the humid air around, so there is an opportunity for a lot of improvement with the room AC. We had a "mini-bar" upgrade with our room, but know the mini-bar package only includes 2 small cans of Coors Light each day, along with bottled water, Coke and Sprite. The mini refrigerator didn't keep things very cold either, which was exacerbated by the maid leaving the fridge door open each day. The bottled water does come in handy for brushing your teeth and rinsing because they caution do not drink the water. Water temperature in the sinks, shower and Jacuzzi are excellent, no issue with hot water, the water pressure could be better, but the temperature is great. Daily room bath and hand towels and wash cloths, is a problem. We always had 2 bath towels, but some days we received either no wash cloths or hand towels, or only 1 of each, even when I asked for more they never showed up, so this is another area needing improvement. Speaking of towels, there must be some issues with the resort laundry service, because there were a few days where we couldn't check out beach towels because they didn't have any, this is not okay when you're staying at a beach resort. The beach towel procedure works with exchanging cards for towels, you get plastic cards when you check in and these must be used to get beach towels, when you turn the towels in you get the cards back. Don't lose the cards because you'll be charged for them when you check out. They also would benefit from having additional beach towel check out areas, there is no beach towel service anywhere close to the main pool, so lots of walking to either check towels in or out. There are many swimming pools to choose from, which is great, you have the option of either lounging by the main pool where lots of activities occur and has a pool bar, or choosing a quieter pool in the resort. The pool bar suffers from having only 1 bartender, so the wait is often too long for getting a drink. The water temperatures in all the pools is a bit too warm, but you must keep in mind the humidity often hovers at 80% or more, so I guess it's understandable. The beach is AMAZING, plenty of loungers, palm trees for shade, the sand is fantastic, and the water is clear and warm. The swimming area is enclosed with ropes and buoys so you don't venture out too far, plus they have a lifeguard on duty each day, but the water is typically calm and the green flag was out each day we were there. At both the beach and the pools, the Occidental Punta Cana would benefit from having drink service. This may sound lazy, but when you're on vacation, soaking up the sun, it would be great to have service come and bring you drinks and/or snacks instead of having to walk to get something. Having stayed in resorts that have beach/pool service is a definite plus, and enhances the vacation experience. Vendors on the beach are not too troublesome, but they will come up and try to sell you a variety of things, resort security is decent in making sure the vendors don't linger too long, and for the most part the vendors are pretty friendly. The nightly shows are pretty decent, typical theme park type of entertainment, but not too bad. Out of all though, the Michael Jackson impersonator show was by far the best and worth watching. Most resort employees were friendly enough, but quite a few were not. Hotel management needs to remind their staff that a smile goes a long way even with the language barrier! The buffet was actually very good, lots of variety and you should be able to find something you like. The specialty restaurants were decent, the steak house our favorite out of all of them. The Mexican restaurant was pretty good too, but the staff was rather rude in this one. We like the Oriental okay, but the service staff appeared to be learning on the job, so it took a little longer. The only one we didn't get to try was the Italian, and that was due to the time-share rep incorrectly making the reservation. Keep in mind, if you want reservations at the specialty restaurants you MUST schedule a day prior with Guest Services in the main lobby, in person, because they will not schedule over the phone, and they are only available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this procedure could you quite a bit improvement. Again, the food is very good, but if you want wine know the house red and white wines are terrible, decent drinkable wines are available at an additional cost, and the wine list is pretty extensive. Overall you should be pleased if you select the Occidental Punta Cana, particularly the view from room 26223.

Royal Level Occidental Punta Cana

We visited the Royal Club(Royal Leve) at the Occidental Punta Cana from May 20-28. We have been guest at the Royal for every 6 months for many years. After one year hiatus it was like having a family reunion. From the minute we arrived, Jean the bell hop whom we have known for years greeted us and immediately transferred us to the Royal check-in. We want to thank Diana and Melina at the Royal Customer Service for their professionalism and great customer service in arranging our accommodations and resolving any questions we had. We want to thank the restaurant team Daniel, Samuel, Hipolito, Ignacio, Ronald, Francis, Clement, and Stephanie, Diego and Jokely for attention to detail and making our visit a great experience. Finally, we want to thank Jose Antonio, Rosio and Carmen for the wonderful customer service at the Royal beach bar. And a special thank you to Sotera the nighly turn down lady who for years has ensured we a comfortable for a good nights sleep. On the negative side was the guests themselves. Many guest are consistently lazy in ensuring that the beach area is left garbage free even though recycle container are available. Smokers leave butts in the sand and others leave wooden skewers from the fruit sticks at the bar. The skewers and straws are left sticking in the sand (sometimes point up. Talk about a lawsuit). Obvious plastic bottle or other plastics bits are left on one of the most beautful beaches in the world. Bad behavior and language from too much alcohol puts a bad light on the resort. To all further customers, please visit the Royal Level at the Occidental Punta Cana.
