While there are tons of things to do to have fun, the bright lights of the big city don't compare to the glory of a sun-bleached beach. For a taste of natural beauty, families head to Spanish-style Occidental Grand Punta Cana, where the all inclusive package promises beachfront fun in the Caribbean sun. The enormous Three-and-a-Half Sun resort appeals to couples and honeymooners with its lush gardens and palm-dotted stretch of Punta Cana beach, but the real focus is on families. With three lagoon-style pools and a jaw-dropping nine restaurants and seven bars, there's never a dull moment or an empty belly!

My wife and I had a great time, the staff is very friendly and attentive. The beach is absolutely beautiful. We bought the horseback riding, dune buggy and deep sea fishing excurtions. You do not have to experience the dune buggy and horseback riding choices as they cover most of the same trails. The dune buggy is the better choice. The two negatives about the hotel is that they allow approved vendors within the premises to panhandle their wears and we waisted 2 hours listening to a Vacation Club sales pitch. Besides the two negatives mentioned, I would recommend the Occidental Grand Resort.
We had an excellent vacation at the Occidental Grand. It was very busy but they made it seem not so busy. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Great place to stay.

Good trip for the $
Occidental Grand Punta Cana was a nice hotel with a beautiful beach. The concierge people in the lobbies of each building are solely there to get you to go to a "vacation club" presentation. Unless you are interested in buying, don't bother. Waste of precious vacation hours.
Our room was outdated, but clean and comfortable. We were in building 11. 13 would be ideal as it is closest to the ocean, but we were 2 buildings down, close to the lobby and the pool bar.
Small tips go a long ways.
The beaches and pools at this resort were immaculate, great destination for beauty and weather. The service was average, we did not get a good explanation about the resort or how it worked. We had a hard time figuring out how to comminicate home to the U.S. The food was decent but little to choose from for beverages. Overall a good stay and I would return.

a bar is at the pool... 2 story. The upper has hamburgers as well as refreshments. I think the bottom serves drinks to those in the pool. As I am not a drinker, I did not use this, but am pretty sure that is what if was for. The pool, however, closed at 7PM!! bummer.

Is topless sunbathing allowed at this resort?11 answers
Any nude or topless sunbathing allowed at this resort or beach?
nj
All resorts which are family-friendly usually do not allow topless bathing as there are children on the property.
MariaCC
I didn't see any topless sunbathing when I was there 2 weeks ago. Just the ones laying on their stomachs with the tops undone. I'm not sure if they actually don't allow it though -- maybe no one wanted to try. There was some flashing one out of control day by the swim up bar though.
ScubaJude
It must be allowed, or not enforced if it is not allowed because we saw quite a few topless ladies walking the beaches. Since it was our honeymoon and we were kidless, we didn't care, but others with children certainly would.
MemphisHoneymoon
We did not see nude bathing, but saw several instances of topless bathing on the beach.

We can always request that your room be on a lower floor and in a central location, but we cannot guarantee this. This is one of our larger resorts and they do not offer shuttle service around the property.

somewhat but they had tons of golf carts constanty driving around giving rides
Sydney91
yes it is very spread out. The hotel is not very well handicap accessible. I also have dificulty walking. Make sure you are on the first floor. The specialty restaurants were up a lot of stairs so I was unable to go for dinner. the buffet was also enjoyable and the food was very good. you can call a bellboy to drive you to the beach because it is to far to walk.

No problem getting to where we wanted to go.

According to the list of amenities, there is a dollar sign ($) next to safety deposit box to reflect that there is an additional charge for use of that service. For specific questions such as the safety deposit box charge, we do recommend contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist. The link to the resort's website to contact them directly is http://www.occidentalhotels.com/occidental/ContactUs.asp.
