Girls Trip
This was a great trip. We stay at the Melia Caribe for a week and this was one of the best vacation we had. The food was delicious our favorite was the the Dominican Restaurant and all the deserts were incredibles. The service was excellent everyone was very friendly and took care of us very well. We loved the beach and the pool. The rooms were very clean and very confortable. Also we enjoy shooping at the mall near the hotel with all the high end brands. Also we did the tour to Higuey we enjoy so much. It was a fun atmosphere but at the same time good to rest and relax. The only negative about the hotel is that everything is far away but they have a little train and golf cars that goes around all the time. Also on Friday night was kind of boring becuase the entreteinment was not that good. But overall we had a great time but defenetly we come back.
Had a wonderful time at the Cabrie stayed right by the pool near the ocean/beach. Service is exceptional, language barrier can be a challenge at times but easy enough to get your point/questions across. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and well maintained. I would go back and wish we were still there just got back on May 5th 2013. Buffets are fair for the most part, the Restaurants are so beautifully decorated and the food was pretty good to at least the ones we were able to go to. The alcohol is not quite top shelf and seamed to be watered down when we tried a shot. The rooms were comfortable and the cleaning staff awesome. Don't be discouraged when you first arrive and your room seems musty just click on the air and turn on your fans, hit the pool have some drinks and everything turns out just fine.
Super clean property! We were in building 29, close to pool but had to tram or walk a bit to most restaurants. Maid service was very inconsistent. Tour operators and Melia time share staff unnecessarily aggressive. Nipped that in the bud quickly. Beach well groomed, great varity of food, good drinks, beautiful pool, and cool wildlife, especially birds, all over the property.

Great time
A great time at the resort. Loved the landscaping and the room was fabulous. The issue me and my wife had was the insistence of the staff for us to do a tour of their rooms for club members. We were approached several times and we were on vacation. We did eventually go to the one and a half hour presentation, and we didn't accept the offer to buy a time share. Thelma did a great job on our room cleaning it with bleach in the restrooms. Loved the pools and the Italian,Hokkaido, and the American Grill restaurants had great food and service. Washington at the Hokkaido was great. Suggestion touch up on your Spanish speaking skills as my wife and I are definitely looking to go back to the resort.

How difficult is to make reservatios in A La Carte restaurants?11 answers
There are hotels where is very difficult to make those reservations, unless you pay for "Special Services".
1 year, 18 months ago
New Silv
There are a number of a la carte restaurants which should make it easy to make dinner reservations. Some restaurants let you make reservations for your entire stay at one time, while for others you must make reservations the day of. You are best to check directly with the resort for their specific rules at the time of your stay.
KristinCC
I didn't have any trouble, just call the reservations number, be flexable with what time you want to eat. Most people eat later so if you eat a little earlier you shouldn't have trouble. I never got turned down because I didn't pay for special services. If one is booked ask about the others and whats available, they will tell you.
mortimer
It was easy to make reservation in A La Carter restaurants.
DRQBUI
Yes it was difficult. It was hard to get a hold of anyone. If you were lucky enough to talk to a person, then the chosen restaurant is closed. You also have to pay $30 extra for Japanese food or $35 for steak. What kind of "inclusive" is this?
namphu
Not a problem except that not all restaurants are open every day.
Making reservations just requires a phone call every two days since one may make reservations two days in advance.

I didn't find it difficult at all! Actually, I made reservations rather easily, but had to cancel due to time constraints with my excursions.

We had Royal Service so it was easy to make reservations.

I would definitely suggest making the reservations the night before....otherwise your stuck with the buffets.

Are there swimup bars available to everyone, not just people in Gabi.6 answers
12 months ago
Terrie
The swim up bars are available to all guests staying at the Melia Caribe Tropical.
MeganCC
There are two swim up bars, one at each pool at the Melia Caribe. My husband and I thought they were a little small and they played really loud music (I think they were playing a CD because it kept skipping). It was not very enjoyable to us when we just wanted to have drinks and relax by the pool.
IndianaFamily
Yes all three pools have a swim up bars
MrNobody
The Gabi pool was down for maintenance during our trip, so we used the beachside main pool and it has a very nice swimup bar.
CalifornaTravellers
Yes, there's a swimup bar available
LadyCapri
yes 1 bar in each pool

Do they have bikes and catamaran?5 answers
What water sports they have? do they have catamaran or bikes?
florida
Non-motorized water sports are available as part of the all-inclusive package and include kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, water bikes, snorkeling, sunfish sailing and diving lessons.
MeganCC
They have kayaking, wind surfing, catamarans, canoes, paddle boats, snorkeling to use but no fins. And you can test scuba diving in the pool. We took a excursion snuba diving, speed boat and snorkel that was great. You have to take a course once before you use the catamaran or windsurfing. They do not have any bikes on the property. If you do any excursions, you can always wheel and deal with them..
puntagotit
They have all kinds of things going on the beach, the people will bug you regarding trying to do something. I don't recall any bikes but airplanes, speedboats, sailing etc.
MrNobody
The hotel description stated "non motorized watersports available" but to be honest we couldn't find anything offered besides the optional excursions. We took the Catalina Island snorkeling trip and the powerboat/snorkel/SNUBA trip and enjoyed them. There were number of other aquatic excursions available from $79-149 per person.
CalifornaTravellers
I saw various boats: kayaks, sailboats, small catamaran but no bikes. Bikes would have been nice considering the long walks between areas of the resort.

We do not have any reports on file from our clients pertaining to this information.

Yes this is true but the staff tries to clean it everyday. They were racking it up everyday we were there, it's still nice
MrNobody
Seaweed kind of comes and gos of it's own accord. There was som present during our trip but I saw them driving a sand cleaner in the morning before folks arrive to do what they can. Expect to see a little bit of grass like seaweed at the high water mark but the lounging areas are ket very clean.
CalifornaTravellers
No, didn't see ANY seaweed on the beaches.
LadyCapri
it was def dirty and brown and fiull of seaweed when we were there 1st week dec. and we were told it always looks like that
jmischel
They had a large crew cleaning it daily. The beach was beautiful.

Which rooms/suites at the Melia Caribe Tropical have an ocean view? Can you show me more pictures of the room and room views? Is there a place I can go to view more room photos?
Thanks, Claire

Tennessee
In answering the first of your questions, CheapCaribbean.com has it on good authority (we reached out to the Melia Caribe Tropical itself) that there are no room types that have what might be defined as an ocean view. We're told that this is chiefly due to the overall layout of the resort which according to resort management only has one villa close to the beach and even that doesn't offer ocean views.
With regards to additional pictures of the room types, check out the resort website: http://www.meliacaribetropical.com and click on 'ROOMS & SUITES' to get the drop down box of the different room types. Just be advised that while pictures are different than what you would see on the CheapCaribbean.com website for the same room type, they only offer one picture per room category.
ChrisCC
The layout of the Melia Caribe Tropical does not allow for a true Ocean View from any room category. However, for the closest rooms to the beach and pool areas, you would want to book in the Royal Beach Junior Suite category.
KateHCC
VILLA'S STARTING WITH THE #36 - FOR EXAMPLE 3604-3608 ARE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE OCEAN
Doobie1
none of the rooms are oceanview
nbw12
none of the rooms have an ocean front view. all you see is the grounds of resort, which are nicley kept. but you have to wak to the beach and depending on where your room is it could be a 10 min walk. the pool areas and buffets are the closest thing to the beach

Is the nightlife good?5 answers
I am looking to book a trip for a week with all of my friends from college. We just graduated and we want to go away but want the resort we choose to have a "happening" night life. Is there a disco and sports bar that are open late every night?
sdee
There are two theaters present nightly shows featuring the resort's exceptionally talented dancers. The Avenue Bar has a weekly Ibiza party. Club Gabi has nightly entertainment, including live music and DJs.
The casino offers 40 slot machines, six Black Jack tables, four roulette tables and two Caribbean-poker tables
There are also 4 bars and lounges open until 2am (hours subject to change)
KristenCC
yes but they close at 0200. Each bar shuts down at different times. The casnio is open till 0300 and food is always open till 0600. The disco is opened till 0200
MrNobody
There is a disco but no sports bar. I could hear the disco from my balcony still going at midnight when I turned in, I assume it is open until 2. I walked by several times at 10 or so and stuck my head it to find it empty.
Maybe it is because we were there in the off season, but I would not use the word "happening" in association with this resort. It is not a spring break vibe kind of place. My 18 year old daughter, however, was asked by staff on several occasions if she wanted to go partying with the locals...there might be a hotspot at one of the adjacent properties you could walk to.
CalifornaTravellers
everything closes at 12
nbw12
Yes, there are places to party all over the resort

The casino is on property and offers 40 slot machines, six Black Jack tables, four roulette tables and two Caribbean-poker tables.
This resort is large. There are complimentary shuttles that take guests around the resort. These amenities are subject to change.
KellyCC
Yes. very easy to walk around. In the main lobby.
KingCaribbean
There is a train to take you around so make sure they put you in a building close to the train stop. Building 24 is the best. Next to train stop, buffet, beach and pool. only need train for dinner and casino. The Capri and La Maison restaurants are closest to the casino.
knip
the resort is huge. it is a 15 min walk from main lobby to the beach. there is a train that goes around resort but u have to just wait for it and it goes slow
jmischel
Casino is right on location, next to the check-in lobby, and auditorium for nightly shows. The casino has a few slot machines, a bar with TV's, and 8 or so tables. Roulette, blackjack, Caribbean stud and a table for weekly no limit hold em.
Resort is not walk around friendly. You will need to likely rely on the trains to take you from various locations. They are quick though.
BFDM
Yes, the casino is next to one of the lobbies.
It is easy to walk around. The resort is huge, so plan on getting on the train they always have going, or catch a ride on one of the many golf carts.

Te Casino is located in the main lobby area and there is always transportation available without little wait.

when buying excursions2 answers
when buying excursions off website it adds the total party. What if i want to just do 1 or 2 of the party instead of 4? Also is it just as cheap to just buy excursions when i get there?
want2go2caribo
If only part of your group wants to take the intended tour, please call our office to add that tour so we can book it only for the intended participants.
If you purchase airport transfers, Olympus tours will greet you at the airport to take you to the hotel. They will likely schedule a meeting you within the first day or so. They will give you a welcome packet that will include tours, excursions and local information. This rep may not be in the hotel daily but should have a regular schedule to provide to you. This rep will be able to assist you with any tours or activities off property. We would recommend only using services provided by hotel or Olympus so you don’t have any unexpected surprises with services.
KellyCC
we only did 2 people and we booked after we arrived at the resort, was actually cheaper than booking ahead.

What is the best hotel for a wedding ?? Are there fees for dining/ bevrages in addition to being all inclusive?3 answers
4 months ago
WI
The best resort for a wedding completely depends on what exactly you are looking for in a wedding, whether you want an adults-only resort or if there will be children attending, the ambiance you are seeking etc.
Most all-inclusives include all meals, drinks and snacks as part of the all-inclusive plan, however there are resorts that do charge extra for certain meals, certain restaurants, etc. You would be best to check the information for the specific resort you are interested in for the most up to date information regarding all-inclusive plans.

Do NOT go to this hotel!!!

We recommend that, to take full advantage of your vacation, you book the Royal Service--this is, essentially, the Melia's VIP section. You would have access to:
Royal Service exclusive benefits:
* Access to private pool at Gabi Beach (Restaurant, bar, lounge, solarium and snacks)
* Access to private beach with beach concierge service
* Private transportation to the private beach area
* Access to Royal Service lounge offering: Daily continental breakfast, free Internet access, all-day coffee & tea service, premium-branded beverages and liquors, special chef selection of hors d'oeuvres throughout the day, butler and concierge assistant services
* Room service
* Access to "The Gabi Club" exclusive club with restaurant, poolbar and entertainment in a chic but casual, fashion-forward, chill-out ambiance.

Just got back. The food was delicious if you get in to the restaurant of your choice. With kids, its very hard to plan a day in advance. I wanted to plan day by day, but then I couldn't get in to my choice of restaurant. I was lucky I had the royal service so I always could eat at the Gabi restaurant, there was room and it was a nice sit down dinner. However, the service was not always consistent. It depended on your waiter. Some days it was great, others it was horrible. Also, 2 restaurants charge you extra. If you want japanese or lobster, those restaurants charge you an extra fee. I paid enough, I refused to pay more.
soccermom1426
We upgraded for $620.00 onsite. The price depends on how many RS rooms are available. I thought it was worth it, but we did eat at pretty much all the al-carte places anyways. The Gabi, which is included in the upgrade has ribeyes and lobster on the menu!! We went to the Gabi for lunch and breakfast every day.
ebrown0884
Defenetly the royal service it is worthy. You get VIP treatment and you can eat at all the restaurant. At the Gabby you can eat lobster and steaks and don't have to pay extra. The only restaurant you have to pay to eat at is the Japanese restaurant, but with so much food we didn't miss it. Also you get international drinks and private pool and beach.n

Melia Caribe Tropical offers a variety of wedding, honeymoon and anniversary
packages.
CHILD CARE
The hotel's Flintstones Land has daily activities and meals for children. Kid's
Clubs are available for age groups ranging from infants and toddlers through
kids and tweens from 10am-5pm. Parents must provide diapers and formula for
children in the Baby Rock Club (4 months to 4 years old).
The Flintstones have found the perfect place for their holidays: they are
staying with your family. Your kids can explore the Yabba-Dabba-Doo bazaar,
gardens and swimming pools just like those Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty
enjoyed.

Local Attractions
A new shopping center, Palma Real Shopping Village, has just recently opened,
with great restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Stores have everything from
cigars, clothing, gifts, jewelry and more, including a Hard Rock Cafe and a
Tony Roma's. And it's all within walking distance from the resort. Everyone
strolls miles-long Bavaro Beach, from which glass-bottom boats, disco-party
boats and snorkeling excursions depart, though they're not part of the all
inclusive plan.
