Great vacation

This hotel was absolutely beautiful. It was my first time in the Dominican Republic and I was very satisfied with everything over all. It's a huge resort, so there's always something going on, even if it isn't at your part if the hotel. They have little "trollies" bringing you wherever you need to go so you never have to walk if you don't want to!! (It gets HOT so I'd recommend the trolley! The pools were kept immaculate and the ocean was breathtaking. There was always a server coming around to bring you drinks. I believe the woman at guest services said there are 15 restaurants on the resort! We only ate at the two Italian restaurants they offer, as well as the steakhouse. The only complaints I have about the resort is the food. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either. Granted, it's a huge resort so they need to keep up with the demands. The other thing I'd complain about was that A LOT of the staff do not speak English that well. it was very hard to communicate at times. Also, if you are planning on buying anything you need at the resort, thinks twice and bring things from home! A pool noodle was $15... a mug was $30... and a bottle of aloe was $18!!! Over all, the resort was amazing. I highly recommend it! It's all inclusive and an amazing price. Also, if you can make it, go to the spa. We got a couples massage for $90 each! Awesome!!

Beware of Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar Blue

Each year a group of us travel together, it's one of our most exciting times as the rest of our year is filled with hectic work schedules, raising children and every day life. We start planning around Christmas to travel in April (5 couples - 10 people). As with every year we were so super excited to travel to Punta Cana. Unfortunately we picked the wrong resort. Let me bullet point the Pro's and Con's. Pro's -Beautiful Beach, Sunset and Sunrise (The hotel did not create that last I checked) -Weather was amazing Con's -Resort was was too big, so it was understaffed. Attempted to get help, an extra towel, an extra key - etc took hours...hours and many times a trip or 2 to the front desk. Where you had to explain what you needed - even though you called from your hotel room. -Our keys didnt work - every day started with a trip to the front desk for new keys - 6 days - everyday. The fridge was broken and never cooled down. No one came to check on it or replace it or apologize. Though we were at the front desk everyday for a room key and told them about the fridge. -We were late arriving due to bad weather - hours late - way past dinner. Rooms should have been ready at 3pm - we arrived at dark and still had to wait over an hour to get into our rooms. -Way understaffed - trying to get breakfast or even coffee was a chore/joke. Many times we just went to the lobby and went to the coffee machine and ran coffee out of there, however on the 3rd day it was broken and alas - we were back waiting to find someone to help us. -Asking directions - Looking for the local "sports bar" to watch the Masters - had us walking in circles where each employee told us 2 minutes and pointed in the opposite direction we walked. 2 hours later we found it, it was closed. -We wanted to attend church on Sunday - couldn't find one employee to give us a straight answer on how to find a local church. - However, if I wanted a tour, take a paddle boat or sky dive - there were 8 or so people there to sign me up. -Not everything is inclusive - if you want top shelf you have to pay for it. -We were so disappointed in our trip that it eventually became a running joke. We were happy to be together, the beach was beautiful but the resort and staff made the experience underwhelming and frankly very annoying. We do not have a ton of money - this is our one big thing we do and no one on the the staff seemed to care - even when we were locked out of our room when the door didnt work. They just said come down to the front desk. Lesson Learned - smaller resort - read all the reviews and do your homework. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I think the worse part was - no one cared, not one person tried to apologize - they were either overworked and underpaid or they didn't care. They recieved our money, so it wasn't a loss to them. I am contacting the hotel directly also - I have a feelling it will fall on deaf ears. Please do not recommend this resort to anyone.

Best vacation

This was the best vacation my husband and I have ever been on. It was our first all inclusive trip out of the country and we were so pleased. The food was great, and the service was excellent. The staff was all friendly and helpful. The beach was wonderful with the clearest ocean water we have ever seen. We are already planing another trip back next year.

Great trip but some comments

Stayed at the resort for a few days with a good friend. Overall we had a great time - beautiful beach (I think the best out of the nearby resorts) and nice pool - but a few things I wish could have been improved. Initially we were given a ground level room in Ambar Blue right next to the construction. The AC didn't work well in this room and it was also obviously not well kept (not enough towels and the fridge was not restocked). We immediately asked for a room change and the following night got a much better room (AC worked great, plenty of towels, great location). However, it was somewhat of a hassle to change rooms (also seemed like a lot of other guests also experienced this problem...wanting to change rooms because they were by construction or their AC didn't work). It definitely was difficult to get reservations at the restaurants for dinner, although we managed to get one at the Brazilian steakhouse (great!) and the Italian restaurant Portofino (not so good). A little frustrating that all of the beach chairs were "reserved" VERY early. We got their at 8 am and all the first 3 rows of chairs with an ocean view were taken. However, seems like most people leave by around 4 pm, so we were able to get a nice spot for a little bit albeit later than we wanted. Finally, the resort ran out of beach towels really early and the ones we did get had a lot of weird stains on them (literally every beach towel we got). On a positive note, I'll reiterate again that the beach was beautiful. The resort didn't feel overcrowded and the food was fine. The resort staff were generally nice and willing to help.
