Same problems and complaints as everybody else

Several hour wait on check in, didn't have our reservation, couldn't get wristband to eat while waiting wound up in green not blue, so huge walk to beach. Don't expect /golf cart ride whenever you need to, construction noise not terrible, but always present. Pretty disorganized, staff does not speak enough English to resolve issues, you definitely do need to speak some spanish to troubleshoot, make a reservation, get directions, find a restaurant, even ordering food and drinks. Food was mostly pretty good, some bad, definitely not gourmet. Service at all restaurants slow and spotty. Had to ask for something repeatedly at every meal; somebody didn't have a plate or napkin or glass or fork or they never came by with coffee or wine at all, etc. etc. Beach, waves and weather top notch, entertainment barely able to be called that. Worst part of experience; expect to tip constantly and be pestered by sketchy vendors nonstop. Every trip or excursion basically an organized fleecing opportunity for those putting it on

Beautiful beaches!

This place had a beautiful beach and pool. We loved spending time in both. The swim up bar was nice to have. There were also bars on the beach which were convenient and there were also servers who would come around to your lounge chairs and take your drink orders. We also really enjoyed the Hobie catamarans that were available and included with our stay. The things we didn't like had mostly to do with service or the lack of helpful service. We like to tip the bartenders, house keepers etc but found it very hard to get change, for US dollars or Dominican Pesos. I watched the lady at the lobby desk open up bundles of US $1 but she told me she didn't have change for a $10. We also experienced a few odd things when it came to drinks. They would have a mimosa and bloody Mary bar set out at breakfast time when you first walked into the buffet but would say you couldn't have it at times or if they actually did give you one, you couldn't go back for refills. Also, we felt the drinks were not strong at all so we started asking for an extra shot of the liquor on the side that we would add to the drink or we would just order something on the rocks but after about 3 times of doing that, they would tell us they were out of whatever it was that I was ordering. It just felt like we were being limited and I didn't care for that. Our building was close to the beach and pool, which was awesome, (Villas 68 and 69 are the closest) but our room key card also stopped working a few times and we weren't able to get into our room. This is a HUGE resort so it was kind of annoying to have to walk all the way up to the lobby to get a new key. The only other con was there was construction going on next door that started at 7 am and went on til 10 or 11pm. I know that isn't this resorts fault but we paid a lot of money and the only view from our room balcony was a dusty construction site, so we tried to stay out of there as much as possible.

Bad Service

Everywhere, every meal, everyday the service was absolutely awful. Couldn't get a cup of coffee to save my life. Food was mediocre on its best day. Would never ever go back.

Disappointment

I've been to resorts at Dominican Republic, Mexico, countless cruises, France, England, Italy and so on. Unfortunately this time my husband and I didn't enjoy our vacation much at all. We arrived to the resort at 1:45 PM and were able to go into our room at 5:30 PM. That was one awfully long check in. I should tell that our room at Bahaia Ambar Blue was at perfect location, just by the pool. It was spacious and clean. That is the only good thing I can say about this resort. Room service was horrible. Maid just made our beds, bed cover and pillows were left on the couch. Our room was at the first floor. Maid always unlocked the balcony door and left it unlock. Once she forgot floor mop in the bathroom. Our refrigerator was never fully stocked. Everyday we either called the front desk or looked for the cleaning people to ask stuff. Almost no one spoke understandable English. All of the guests were having trouble with free internet service. I went to front desk's guest help. I told her that I can't get internet service. She gave me a blank stare and said "We don't have internet service but we have room service." I finally connected to free internet by myself. Adult only pool was so crowded that I had to get up at 6:30 AM to reserve a chair under an umbrella. They constantly ran out of supplies. They always said no pool towels were available by the pool side. Sometime towels were available after 3 PM. Everyday they ran out of tonic when I asked for gin and tonic, or champagne if I asked for mimosa, even water at breakfast. Specialty restaurants were laughable. Especially French restaurant was hilarious. Never Bahaia Don Pablo again for us.
