Worst Trip Imaginable

The resort is huge which is good to an extent for families but you have to walk forever to get to the main building for breakfast or to leave the resort for excursions if your room is close to the beach. Nothing except your room is air conditioned so the restaurants are all hot and you sweat while eating. Most of the bartenders and waiters don't speak English except a few words so you can't understand them and they can't understand you. The beach was nasty and covered in seaweed the entire time. No one in the whole resort did I ever see in the ocean because of it. The water is not clear blue at all!! The resort is very expensive for what you get, so for all the beach travel lovers...skip this one it's not worth it! My husband and I were so disappointed. I couldn't wait to go home.

Great trip - some improvement needed

We had a wonderful vacation overall. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The service in the restaurants was extremely slow. Food was not very different in restaurants than it was in the buffet. The entertainment staff was excellent. The people selling excursions are not honest with setting expectations with travel time. We did not pay for the preferred upgrade. I might try that next time with hopes of improved food quality and service.

a couple of nightmares at Dreams Resort Punta Cana

Steve's review: The property is beautiful and the food was fabulous. We did have some problems; one of which was major. At check-in, the young man at the desk did not speak English well. What should have taken 5 minutes took about 25. Not fun after a 4.5 hour plane trip. The room keys did not function well. It took as many as 10 attempts for the green light to go on even after getting replacement keys. The drinks were pretty watered down. The Japanese restaurant made the worst margarita I have ever tasted. Food was great though. We had two 8 a.m. phone calls that were unnecessary and unappreciated. The MAJOR problem: The air conditioning in our 2 adjoining rooms did not work well. It was approximately 82 degrees in the room our first night. The intake vent on the ceiling vibrated noisily. We woke up sweating a few times even though the ceiling fan was on and we were sleeping on top of the covers. The next morning, we went to one of 3 concierges on duty to make him aware of the situation. Maintenance arrived while we were on the beach, and fixed the noisy intake vent, but the AC did not improve. So, we complained again. Maintenance came down that evening and made some 'repairs' and promised that the room would be very cool within the hour. It was very slightly cooler; maybe 79-80 degrees at best. So, we still slept on top of the covers. Next morning, went back to concierge and requested different rooms. He promised that maintenance would fix the problem to our satisfaction. They came down and worked on it. No change. Night #3 again spent in a room that was too warm. Next day: repeat of days 2 and 3. Promises made and not kept. Asked to speak to manager and was informed that the hotel was completely full and there were no rooms available. He said that we should have brought this matter up sooner. We explained that this had been going on since day 2........Finally on day 5 we found another concierge (Manuel) who actually cared about our situation. He upgraded our rooms for night #5 and we finally slept comfortably in cool rooms. If only we had found Manuel sooner!!! He was fabulous!!! I called the 'problem' hotline for Cheap Caribbean late on night 4. I explained the situation and was put on hold for several minutes. Then we were disconnected (or she hung up). She did not call me back even though she had all my information...... So, the air conditioning fiasco really put a damper on what would have been a great vacation. I pity the people who will be staying in those rooms (4304 and 4305) in the future!!!!!

Overall good experiece but should have been Great

Checked in on a Wednesday afternoon into two adjoining family rooms. Rooms are somewhat dated but very clean, nicely kept and it wasn't an issue. That night, we slept poorly because the air would not cool off and so we kept waking up hot and sweaty all night. The next morning I went to the concierge to ask to be switched to another room and they wanted to come 'fix' the AC. We went to the beach for the day and expected to return to a cool room. It was not, so again the next morning I went down to let them know it was not fixed and they wanted to send another team over to work on it. So we had to stay in a hot room for four nights while they tried to 'fix' it and finally on the last night they moved us into new rooms. They should've done that on the first night, not making us suffer through four nights at sweating. Also I would probably not return to this property because the beach is very windy and on the Atlantic so the water was a pretty jade green but not the ideal clear Caribbean we like. Other than that the restaurants were amazing, the food was amazing and the pool was awesome. The resort is huge, Las Vegas style, so it takes forever to get from one thing to another but we still had fun. Anything is better than Texas in June!

What's to Love

The refreshing champagne and chilly towels that welcome you into beach bliss.

The massive, aahh-mazing pool that stretches from the lobby to the beach.

The 1,643-square foot on-site casino. Lady luck is waiting.

The Deluxe Swim-Out room. You'll feel like royalty, or a rock star. (Or a royal rock star.)

The flamingos, peacocks, parrots, turtles and more - it's like a tropical zoo.

Explorer's club (kids 3-12) with everything from sand castle contests to Plant a Tree & Corn Harvest Project.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Chilling in the spa's Zen garden after the Tropical Oasis Body Wrap.

The FREE windsurfing and sailing lessons. (Gotta love free.)

Seaside dining with only the stars and candles to light your night. (There's a fee, but go for it).

What We'd Change

You'll want to keep an eye on the schedule for the restaurants, but there are so many options your taste buds will rejoice in their around-the-world tour.

Why You Should Go

It's 60-minute drive from the airport, but you can relax - you're already in earth-heaven.

Upgrade to the Preferred Club, get a private lounge & beach, and much more.

Browse the Dominican market with fine handicrafts, hand-made jewelry and more.

For some "you time," there's yoga/stretching and aerobics.

Our world-class golf courses are near. The concierge can hook you up.

Saddle up and go horseback riding. It costs, but it's magical.

Get starry-eyed with the Stargazing Rock 'n Roll party and movies under the stars on the beach.

Tennis (and clinics) are here - nothing like hitting the court under the palms.

Head to the baseball cage for some family throwing and bonding time.

Play Mexican Bingo and after you win, hit the water cycles.

The ocean trampoline is a fav among the kiddos.
