Disappointed
The view and pools are perfect. The room great. The people friendly. However, the food was terrible. When my husband went to prepare a burger there was a roach in the bread basket and when we told the cook he just removed it from the basket and did not even bother to change it because he said it happens. That is not the way you answer a guest.
Great value, so much fun, bars were awesome. The only issue I had was the food. I understand it was buffet style so it's not going to be the best, but it definitely could have been better. Really didn't sit well with my body. I also wish the dining hall was open more, it was annoying that breakfast stopped at 10 am, people like to sleep in on vacation!
The resort was nice and the staff was great . I had a wonderful time on my excursions and the staff to set up each trip was in the front entrance every morning. I really enjoyed myself and will be going back.
this was a very nice vacation. The price was right, the food was good, the service was good, no issues, no problems, everything went very smoothly. For the price it was a great value. I would definitely recommend it for vacation for a couple or family. Do not expect 5 stars since you are no paying such price but this is a very good value for the price.

How far is the drive from the airport to the resort?11 answers
If I were to take a cab, approximately how much would that cost?
1 year, 21 months ago
Kelly
There are shuttles to and from the airport, 41$ round trip. It can be purchased upon arrival. It takes about 30 minutes from the airport to the resort.
traveler897
It is about one hour away from the airport.
swimmy
About 20 minutes
Sparkle65
cabs are a no no use hotel shuttles only very important for your safety
DonPLon
The airport is approximately 16 miles to the resort. Cab fares can vary depending on each cab company so we are unable to advise how much it would cost. We highly recommend purchasing the roundtrip airport transfer to ensure you are receiving service from a reputable company.
MariaCC
It is around 30 minutes driving from the airport . Around 20 miles I think . A cab will charge you probably around 40 to 50US$ .
coastalguy
Its about 45 minutes
badfish9
45 minutes in the bus

I really could not say becuz I purchased the airport transfer

Taking a cab is A LOT less expensive than taking the transportation that you can buy online extra with your reservation. Depending on which hotel you are going to, it runs from about $40-60 dollars.

I'd say 30-40 minutes very close and a pleasant drive.

Is the beach sand nice and fluffy?9 answers
I mean, no rocks, stones, sticks to step on? Is the water warm, clean and clear?
1 year, 19 months ago
Tim W
The beaches in Puerto Plata are an Amber color and the water is on the green side (not dirty). Depending on the weather and what washes ashore, will determine how the beach is. Typically, you will not have rocks or broken shells on the beach.
DanielleCC
Nice sand but too many palm trees on the beach, water was a little chilly.
badfish9
the beach is rocky so we bring beach shoes if you walk up to the riu mambo the beach is clear no stones
nobody
yes nice and fluffy, warm, clean and clear
number1lady
It has all of the above on the main beach. The beach off to the side--when you take the special stony, rock path has a lot less natural debris. The water is gorgeous--warm, clean and clean for a while out...beautiful colored sand.
Berinjena
water is warm end clean
zebe
There were a few rocks when you first walk in but the water is warm and inviting, clean and clear.
Mercyj
the answer is no to all, the bottom of the ocean is rocky, water is dirty.
honest1
The water was on the colder side when we were there. The sand was brownish and not powdery, but the views were stunning.

How is the beach?6 answers

This resort is located on the beach in Maimon Bay.
MariaCC
The beach was great.
number1lady
There is a lot of natural debris (rocks, stones, branches, etc) on the main beach. There is significantly less on the beach that is in the bay (you have to take a stony, rock path to get there). The water is warm, clear, and there is no plant life until about 30 feet or more out. Lots of sea shells for those looking to collect, or for a souvenir.
Berinjena
Veery good
zebe
Love the beach warm and clean, clear water. A few rocks when you first walk in.. But very quiet and relaxing beach.
Mercyj
The views from the beaches were stunning. You NEED water shoes, lots of coral with hidden urchins. Snorkling was great on the one calm day, but the other days, the water was too rough. There were too many trees on the beach and finding sunny spots was tough, especially with how crowded it was.

Can I use a U.S. plug in the outlets?8 answers
9 months ago
Jomaxx
Yes, you can use the US plugs in the outlets. If you have items with a 3 prong plug, you will need an adapter.
KristenCC
Not the three prong plug--unless you rent the adapter from the front desk. It is not always available. I would recommend bringing your own adapter.
Berinjena
yess you can
zebe
You need an adapter, which they will provide at the front desk.
Mercyj
No
honest1
No. But the front desk will rent you the converter for $2. And you can rent as many as you need. I rented 2.
ChicagoGirl1
You can use a 2 prong plug, however, some devices have clunky bases and they did not fit.
ibelican2
yes but depending on your plug bring and extension.

Hotel Description
Riu Bachata: Cut Loose in All-Inclusive Style
If excitement and time to chill are high on your vacation wish list, Riu
Bachata in Puerto Plata is for you. With lively pools and bars plus a mellow,
peaceful beach, this all-inclusive resort offers the best of both worlds.
Riu Bachata shares a stretch of sunny Maimon Bay with two sister hotels: Riu
Mambo and Riu Merenge. With Riu Bachata's all-inclusive deals, guests enjoy the
amenities of the sister hotel's restaurants and bars. Another awesome feature
of this resort is its well-known Caribbean Street promenade, a line of shops
featuring an art gallery, clothing boutiques and craft shops.
After shopping, model your new bikini at one of Riu Bachata's two pools. The
jammin' swim-up bar, Los Lirios, sets up a fun atmosphere. Soak in the Jacuzzi
or lean back in the in-pool loungers while the kids whoop it up in the
children's pool.
Speaking of kids, this is one of Puerto Plata's top places for
family-friendly fun. At RiuLand, the kids' club, children are treated to
supervised games in the pool and painting. There are daily kids' shows geared
toward different age groups. When the kids are done hanging out at RiuLand,
your family can pile into a pedalo, or paddle boat, for a little ocean
exploration. Back on shore, there's time for a little snooze in the shade of
the trees that line the tranquil beach.
When it's time to eat, head to Bahia de Maimon, a buffet restaurant that
serves themed dinners twice a week. Or, make reservations for the poolside
steakhouse, Maracuya. For more options, you can choose from a selection of
restaurants in Riu Mambo and Riu Merenge.
For nightlife, try your luck at Riu Bachata's casino or attend the nightly
shows, featuring music and other entertainment. You even get free entry to
Pacha, the thumping disco. After dancing the night away, schedule a massage the
next day at Renova Spa. What better way to balance out the partying than with
soothing relaxation?
