Great value
my husband and I have a really great time! we had to vip package and the beach and service were fantastic. I highly recommed this vacation deal.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Cofresi for 8 days and had the best time. Our junior suite was huge and always clean. The service was unbelievable, there was always someone there ready to help you. The only downfalls were no free WiFi and only 2 dinner reservations. The buffet was good but did get old by the 5th or 6th day. The entertainment staff was probably the best part. Banana and Cappuccino recognized my boyfriend and I everywhere we went in the resort and always made sure we were laughing. I also liked that you had access to all three resorts and got part of the VIP treatment with the thursday and sunday party, also the VIP beach. I would definitely go back!
My wife and I were at Cofresi May 6 thru May 11. Overall our experience was very positive, and we really enjoyed our time in the Dominican. For the price of this place it is well worth a stay.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and promptly. We were checked into our room very quickly and given a shuttle to our room with baggage handled by the driver. We were also given two dinner reservations for different nights. Our room was clean and spacious for only two travelers.
The resort has several pools and outdoor bars you can hang around at. The beach areas were nice and had plenty of chairs/beds.
There are numerous restaurants to choose from, but only two buffets open to the non-VIP patrons. And we were told we could not make a dinner reservation for a third or fourth night because we were not VIP patrons. So we were limited to two nights of dinner at non-buffet restaurants. Also, the non-VIP restaurants made up about half of the total number of restaurants, so we felt limited in that manner as well. The food was good overall, but the choices are very limited at the two buffet restaurants. I had more rice and beans in one week than I eat in six months at home. The variety of the buffet restaurants didn't change much either (that got old).
The two non-buffet restaurants we had were excellent - one was Italian (Bellini) and the other was Dominican (El Pilon). Excellent excellent food at these two places.
The excursions offered were plenty, and we had a great time at each of them. We did snorkeling at Paradise Island, waterfall trekking, and the cable car/city tour excursion. Paradise Island had good snorkeling, but we got rained on going back to shore (that was terrible). The waterfalls were awesome. Everyone should do this excursion. The cable car was good, and the city tour was good (Brugal rum factory, cigar making, museum, and central park visit).
Again, our vacation was terrific overall minus a few mishaps that were out of anyone's control (weather specifically). Great place for the price.
P.S. This place will try to sell you a membership. The presentation lasts about 3-4 hours. You can't really avoid it, but you get to see the entire resort.
P.S.S. You have to pay for internet access unless you go to one beach area that remains full every day (people get up at sunrise to reserve their spot at this beach). Free wifi throughout the resort would be a nice feature. :(
My boyfriend and I just came back from Cofresi Palm on Friday and we had such an amazing time. We stayed in building 41 and our room was beautiful! We went with the expectation that it wasn't going to be that nice of a place because it was sooo reasonably priced and by some of the reviews that we read. Boy were we wrong! The resort is beautiful!!! Yes it is really big like the rest of the reviews said but not too big that it is overwhelming. You can go for a nice stroll if you prefer or take the shuttles. Dining options - we had the reservations for Italian and the Asian Fusion. Both were good, not outstanding but good. We really loved the Pearl buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a station for eggs made your way, and you can get fresh pancakes/french toast right off the griddle each day. Lunch they switch it up each day so it doesnt feel like you are eating the same foods over and over again and the same for dinner. Really nice variety each day with what seemed to be theme nights. American food one night, Domican choices the next night, and so on with of course the regular things that are offered each night. Be adventurous and eat something new and you won't get bored with the food. Vacation is what you make of it....yes there were the sewer smells here and there but not for nothing who cares! You are away in the sun and having fun so enjoy it and don't look for things to complain about. Pools are awesome! We typically hung out at the pool near the Pirate Cove bar where there was shade and hammocks. In the morning they have water areobics and a lot of different activities during the day which is why we liked this pool so much! So many choices and same thing goes for the bars. Be sure to bring your own cup with a lid and straw which saves trips to the bar! VIP beach was very nice as well but you have to get up really early to get one of the covered beds for the day. If not go later in the afternoon and by then the people who got there early are usually leaving by then. This is the first vacation that after 7 nights/8 days we were not ready to go home and wanted to stay longer! That never happens! :) We will definitely be going back to this resort and had one of the best vacations here! We went to another part of the island in the Dominican at another resort and Cofresi was SOOO much nicer than our first experience in the Dominican. In the reviews that we read about prior to leaving others spoke about being harrassed by the timeshare reps...we were asked to be taken to breakfast the second day and that they would call us first before picking us up. We didnt answer because we were still sleeping and never heard from them again. No pressure no annoyance nothing but a good time for the whole week! Sunday night welcome party was a lot of fun as well...just lots of people and HUGE! But definitely if you can don't miss it! Bring lots of sunblock and be sure that even when you are in the shade that you have it on because somehow the sun in the Dominican finds you when you are not wearing it and you think you are covered! :) I am sure I am missing some stuff but I can't say it enough that we had the BEST time ever last week and can't wait to go back again!!

The property is on a very nice beach which is clean.

Are there options for families with 3 children?4 answers
1 year, 19 months ago
kathy
Hi Kathy,
The maximum occupancy for all room categories is 4; 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults 1 child. If you book two rooms to accomodate your family you would be able to request that the rooms are connecting. While there is no guarantee, if they are available at the time of check in the resort will make every effort to accomodate your needs.
ccsusan1
Not really much for the kids. They have a kids zone, but I would not take my 15 and 9 year old boys there.
IThoughtYouSaidRum
Yeah, we saw tons of families there. They have a special kid's building. We don't have kids so I couldn't tell you how good it is.
Marshal
No, there is nothing for your children to do other than swim. There are two kids club facilities, but they were packed with older children and no one was doing anything special with the kids. The pool in front of the kids club on the Confresi side was very dirty, but the one by the VIP was nice-again, older children basically playing video games.

We are currently selling this resort, however, the resort does not open until December. This resort is available for all ages but do keep in mind that there are a lot of steps on the property.

There were people of all age ranges there. Families, couples, students, etc. There's pretty much something to do for any age group.

It was a very wide range and pretty even distribution of ages. Definitely caters to the partying. We had a beer chugging contest and won a couple of pool volleyball tourneys (prize was rum!)...

Kinda, it's basically the same deal. They'll schedule a VIP tour for you, just skip it, they don't force you to go, but once you go it'll be hard to leave.

If you are a VIP member you have acces to any of the VIP areas-Serenity beach, Harmony beach, VIP pool, VIP resturants, bars and lounges. There is a restaurant that serves kosher food as well. You get free transfers from and to the airport. Depending on what level you sign up for your rate is locked in, you can also upgrade to a suite or villa as long as there is availability. You can also use laptops and free wi fi at the Tower. They will provide you with a laptop if you don't have one of your own.

There were nightly shows that we couldn't get into because they were so packed with locals. is it worth it to get the airport transfers

CheapCaribbean.com does suggest purchasing the round-trip airport transfers along with your vacation package. This guarantees that you have transportation waiting for you upon arrival, and also have guaranteed transportation back to the airport from your resort. It also guarantees that you will not have to pay any additional for a taxi. You can use the service of a taxi or other transportation in destination, but CheapCaribbean.com cannot guarantee availability or pricing.

I am an avid snorkeller. Are there snorkelling excursions and how far are they from the resort?3 answers
1 year, 18 months ago
Steve
Snorkeling is available on site but booking a tour will take you to the best local sites. Introductory scuba lesson in pool is part of the All-Inclusive package. Turinter Tours offers several tours that include snorkeling as part of the tour. A rep from Turinter Tours will have a welcome packet for you with details of the excursions available near the hotel. Ocean World next door has snorkeling as well.
KellyCC
Hello, When you are pricing out your vacation package you will see that excursions are available for you to purchase as well detailed information about that activity. There are a few excursions that have snorkeling included but there is not one that is strictly snorkeling. If you need further assistances you may contact us at 1.800.915.2322.

The beach is really nice. The sand is brown, not the typical white sand beach so the water did not reflect crystal blue as I like but it's still clear. The water has some waves, a bit calmer on the right side of the beach. There seems to be plenty of room to layout & not be disturbed by anyone.

How do you upgrade to VIP? And what does it include?6 answers
1 year, 15 months ago
Ant
They'll offer you a VIP tour, once you're on the tour it's all a big sales pitch. If not, just wander around telling people who work there that you want to become a member and they'll be more than happy to help, (they get commission).
The amenities that they offer are almost endless compared to the "regular" all inclusive. You'll have access to all the private beaches, better alcohol, access to the best restaurants and super cheap rooms at over 5000 locations around the world. That's just a few of the big ones that made the difference for us. I'd recommend signing up for their "Try" package.
Marshal

I believe a CheapCarribean representative can upgrade you. Their packages included the VIP upgrade. The upgrade gets you access to a beach and a restaurant at the Lifestyle resort next door.

You need to invest a minimum of $5000. I'm not sure what you get for that. Most people were opting for the $19,000 option which was a 20 year plan.

We were never told about the VIP upgrade option. They have access to most restaurants plus others not available to the average Joe. Also premium booze in the rooms.
pepe22
You have access to lots of great pools and restaurants, even a sushi bar. There are a few restaurants you CANNOT use unless you are a VIP member. I think there is a certain area of the beach with cabana beds for VIP members only, but there is an entire waterfront beach area, at least 2 other cabana beds areas (one with food/beverage service), swim up bars, pools with waterfalls/hammocks/volleyball nets, etc. There is a ton to do and see if you are NOT a VIP member. Go for the great deal!
Germantown
There is a huge difference between what you get with VIP and without. You only receive the gold VIP bracelet if you become a member of their vacation membership package. Cheap Carribean does have a deal set up, that you are allowed on the one VIP beach while you are there.

VIP is a huge difference from non-VIP. Without the full gold band VIP (which is only for those who are members, or those travelling WITH members), you do receive much less.

Bottled Water?6 answers
Hi, we are staying here in 1 month and I'm worried about drinking water. Does the resort offer bottled water?
uffdafrio
Some resorts offered bottled water as part of the all inclusive package, however some resorts only offer bottled water at an additional cost in the gift shop and other areas of the resort. You would be best to check with the resort directly as they would be able to give you the most accurate information.
KristinCC
Yes, there is bottled water. No worries.
paragon
Hi, my husband and I just got back from there and they do provide bottle waters as well as having water purifiers in the hallways on every floor, they tell u not to drink the tap water, but put plenty of places to get good water.
Dkny
Yes water at bars and in room
Norman8617
There is lots of bottled water on the resort. They give you a generous supply in your room, and replenish it every day, as well as a cold water cooler on every floor for your use.
Palmlover
Yes they do, they will tell you not to drink the water when you check in. They put bottle water in your rooms every day or you can get water from the bars or call. It's ok to brush you teeth with and shower.

The resort's website does not state what restaurants would not be included for nonVIP members. We do suggest checking directly with the resort as they would be best to answer any specific questions. The link to the resort's website to contact them directly is http://www.cofresipalmresort.com/contact.html.

It's not many, there are enough for a new restaurant ever night if you are not VIP. I can not recall each one.

Ocean World Adventure Park, Marina and Casino is very close to the resort complex.
Adjacent to the marina stands the landmark Ocean World Casino. The spectacular four-story building is an aquatic-themed casino that features extraordinary mosaics of whales, dolphins and tropical fish. Each floor offers visitors different experiences, from five-star dining, live music and gaming to spectacular ocean views, cocktail lounges and the tropical and exotic Bravissimo Show, a Las Vegas-style dance show with a tropical flair.

Is nude or topless sunbathing allowed at the resort or nearby beaches?
California
What is a comfortable bed is always a matter of personal preference; some people prefer soft mattresses and others prefer harder mattresses. Since the Cofresi is a family friendly resort, they will have a stricter policy than some of our adults only resorts in the Dominican Republic.
LaurenCC
our bed was a king plush bed :)

no nude bathing allowed in the DR from what i understand there was not any at this location and there are not any nearby beaches from this property - remember all beaches are public in the DR

I just returned yesterday. The beds were not comfortable at all -- kinda felt like sleeping on a rock! No nude/topless sunbathing is allowed at the resort. I am not sure about off-site though.

They state in the pamphlet they give you when you arrive that there is no nude or topless sunbathing as the Dominicans consider it inappropriate

Student/Youth Travelers are defined by the resort as any guest under the age of 23, traveling without their legal parent/guardian. If the minimum age is not met, the resort reserves the right to refuse service. We recommend booking a resort which does not have a Spring Break/Student/Youth Travel Policy.

The resort features 12 beautiful pools located throughout the property, including pool areas exclusively for kids, however, it does not state if any of those pools are swim up. For specific questions such as this, we do suggest contacting the resort directly for the most accurate information. The link from the resort's website to contact them directly is http://www.cofresipalmresort.com/contact.html.

There r swim up bars n at least two of the pools that i know of. Very good service at the swim up bar
Lee118
MANY of the pools have pool bars that you don't have to get out of the pool to get a drink. Our favorite was the pool bar closest to the lobby at the Cofresi underneath the cave in the pool, because they had to make everything from scratch and nothing was pre-mixed.
Linds1313
There are at least 2 bars that you can literally swim up to, the VIP beach has waiters which will serve at the pools. Every other pool area (with the exception of the kids areas) has a bar within shouting distance. I would recommend bringing a Tumbler/thermos to keep your beverages cool.
MissingParadise
Yes, there are swim up bars at this resort. The Vodka Bar and Cheers Bar are the most popular.

Yes you have to be 23 or older to stay at this resort. This resort has a very strict policy regarding this issue. Resort Policy: Student/Youth Travelers are defined by the resort as any guest under the age of 23, traveling without their legal parent/guardian. Please be advised that Spring Breakers and Student/Youth GROUPS under the age of 23 are not accepted at this resort. This policy applies year round. If you do not adhere to the Student/Youth Policy upon booking, your reservation will be canceled and you will be notified accordingly. Resort may require legal documentation to verify age prior to check-in; if the minimum age is not met and student/youth is not traveling with parent or legal guardian, check-in will be denied and a credit will not be issued

does this package include the VIP access that I keep hearing about in the reviews?3 answers
2 months ago
raleigh
When booking with CheapCaribbean you do get access the to VIP beach area. However this is not VIP status at the resort. We do not sell VIP status.
CaitlinCC
In a simple answer....NO. The package does not include VIP access. There is one VIP beach that everyone has access to. In order to get a sun bed there you have to be in line by 8 am.
In our cheapcaribbean pamphlet of info it is slightly deceiving. You will have access to 1 out of the 4 VIP beach areas. This area is called VIP beach. The service was great, drinks were amazing, etc... But....the VIP members that were part of the time share were still able to go there, when they had access to 3 other more beautiful areas.
There are also some restaurants, pools, etc.... that VIP members only have access to.
In order to have FULL resort access, you must buy the timeshare.
PATravelers3134
Only a portion of the VIP areas. You will be invited to a VIP breakfast and have access to the VIP Bar (top shelf and appetizers). However, unless you are a true "VIP Member" there will be places you are not permitted.

The VIP amenities include, which are included in the cost of your stay:
Access to the laid-back VIP Beach, including premium brand drinks, sushi bar, two Jacuzzis and wait-service for food and beverage from sun beds
Access to the Thursday Ocean World Party; this special party takes place every Thursday at Ocean World and includes free transportation from and to the hotel, snacks, live band, drinks, free admission to Bravissimo show and free admission to the Casino & Lighthouse Disco (drinks are NOT included). Weather permitting. Day of week of party subject to change.
Sunday Welcome Party; this special party takes place every Sunday in the Peninsula area with a nice ocean view. Includes, gala dinner buffet, international drinks, live band, Carnival show, dancer & singer show, spectacular fireworks show. Weather permitting. Day of week of the party is subject to change.
- There is a time share on property, and they will ask you to attend a meeting, however, you can decline, it is not mandatory.
KristenCC
Minimum $18,000 for better drinks, private beach, and golf cart usage. For a jr. suite on future uses its $199 for a week plus $50 a day pp for the all-inclusive and airfare - so not really saving money, just getting better perks and spending $18,000 or more
Kellyeve
VIP is a buy in, basically you are purchasing property. or you are staying at a timeshare owned by someone else. Otherwise you cannot upgrade or buy VIP package. VIP is better food, top shelf alcohol, and private areas that people who are not VIP cannot enter.
Minimak2327
when I booked through CheapCarribean the VIP was already included but dont expect anything special by it, basically everyone at the resort had VIP bracelets. it says u cant go to Sun VIP party if u are not VIP but everyone at the resort goes because the whole resort basically shuts down. and when u get there Super Mario or someone else would come up and tell u to meet him at the lobby the next morning to give u a tour of the resort. this is where they try to sell u the timeshare. We just blew him off and did not show up b/c the night before we met pp who went and told us when Mario figured out they were not buying in he left them and they had no clue where they were

How do you get to the VIP beach at lifestyle from cofresi & does it take long?3 answers

The VIP beach is about a 5 minute walk for Cofresi, and a 3 minute walk from Lifestyle.
CaitlinCC
We walked down the the beach and no it does not take long but if u want a bed u need to get there super early or be on the lookout for beds that have been sitting empty all day with pp stuff on them. After 11:30 if you tell security that the bed has been empty all day he will watch it for a 1/2 hour and if there is no activity he will take their stuff for u to get the bed. and try the frozen coffee DELISH!!!!! was not on menu so did not know about it till 3 days in and that is all I ordered the rest of my time there
misce31558
You can get to the VIP beach via a short walk on the regular beach, Depending on which building you're in at Cofresi (some are closer to the beach than others), it would be ~5-10 minutes walking. And it's worth the walk - the VIP Beach is one of the nicest accessible parts of the resort :)
