"To be honest, this is an older resort so don't expect flashy, shiny, State of the Art 'glitz' - but that is overrated anyway! This place was awesome! The food was outrageously delicious - no really..." – CSMnYM

Great Expectations

If Secrets is among the best all inclusive resorts, Secrets Papagayo may be the worst among the best. It is VERY nice. The rooms, pools, spa, restaurants etc. were very good, but when compared with other Secrets resorts, fell short. At other resorts the wait staff seem happy to serve and are always looking for ways to make your stay better. In Papagayo it was hard to find wait staff and they certainly didn't seem happy to be there. The exception to this was the entertainment team. They were awesome!! If I were to visit again (and I wouldn't) I would be sure to get a room within walking distance of the main area. Otherwise you have to call for a shuttle EVERYTIME you want to go to or from your room. Also, I felt like they were trying to sell me something from the moment I stepped out of the airport shuttle (club membership, special dinners, wine...). Secrets, you should keep this one on the down low.

Absolutely incredible!

We have stayed at a few different all inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Secrets Papagayo is by far the best. First of all, the resort is beautiful, the pool area overlooks the beach for an incredible view. I'm a picky eater and have never really cared for the food at all inclusive resorts. This place is different, the food is fantastic. They really pay attention to detail here, from offering fresh fruit for your water to a cute donut tree on the counter of the coffee shop. They do not cut corners here and it is very clear. The staff is phenomenal, they are cheerful 100% of the time and willing to help in whatever way they can. Our bartender at the Baracuda bar, William is fantastic- we asked him for a Moscow mule, he didn't have ginger beer so he used fresh ginger to make his own. We came back with some Mahi Mahi filets after a fishing trip- we called to see if there was any way they could cook it for us. The chef came to our table, asked us how we wanted it, and even what sides we'd like. Our last night is tonight and I truly can't say enough good things about this place- we are so sad to leave and are already planning our next trip.

Absolutely incredible! The shrimp from Aqua restaueant

GREAT. WITH ONE GLARING EXCEPTION

The resort is beautiful. Definitely not for people who have trouble walking. No one warned us that upon arrival that to get your "free" coupons it meant that this guy was going to give you a hard sell to buy something. After a long trip ....this is the encounter?? First impressions are everything!! Just say no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When we refused the "hard sell" all we got from him and a few others at the "preferred" office was dirty looks for a few days. A wonderful young lady from Canada did make sure we received our coupons several days later. Do want to say the service, food etc.. was excellent. Kenneth at the Seaside Grill was outstanding ,and a great asset to the resort. Maurice at the Amstar office went above and beyond to make sure we had some excellent trips off property. (Wish there were a few things closer to the resort) but wonderful side trips. All in all a good trip!!

AMAZING!!

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon! Everyone was friendly and helpful, we truly felt taken care of and relaxed! All the dinning options were great and the beverage selection was fantastic! Wether you want to just realax and hang by the pool or go out for excursions this place has it all!! Our room was decorated for a honeymoon with a bottle of champagne, rose pestles on the bed, and a sign on our door! Truly one of the best resorts by far! We are definitely thinking about coming back for our 1st anniversary!
