Great Location

This resort was beautiful with monkeys and iguanas everywhere. The beach was gorgeous and calm. On some days it was VERY clear and you could snorkel right out front. Scuba center on site offered some great free activities as well as good deals for trips. The view from the corner ocean front rooms and great but no so great from the middle. The non ocean views could mean waking up to a Monkey in the trees. All staff at every bar and restaurant were amazing. The food was good. . . My only negative would be the drinks. I had heard all inclusive locations water down their drinks but I couldn't believe when I could not find a sealed bottle of liquor. Even when they were out and went for a new one, it had been previously opened. I did feel that helped with folks OVER drinking in the heat but for those of use that only drink a couple, I didn't want to be full of juices.

Hit and Miss

Ill save you the long read. These are the things you should know. 1) There are no television stations that are in English. 2) Pool and Beach are amazing. 3) Food was not great. Three restaurants and the buffet left a lot to be desired. 4) Location is not great. Not really anything within walking distance of the resort. For those who like to adventure, expect taxi rides or rent a car. 5) Resort itself was nice and clean 6) Surprisingly, drinks were not watered down. 7) Rainy days can be boring (Nothing to do that is indoors) 8) If you go to the gift shop, expect to pay 4 times the amount for a souvenir that you would off the resort (seriously 4 times the amount if not more) 9) Staff was very friendly Overall I thought the resort was decent. Definitely worth the price you pay to stay. The television thing can be a bummer especially during rainy days or night time if you want to relax in your room. Food was not that great. We went to Coco Beach and found the food to be much much more desirable. Overall I'd give it a 3*.

Riu guanacaste

Went to riu guanacaste for 8 days. Was very clean and only 40 minutes from the airport. Front desk staff was nice, housekeepers are wonderful. Bartenders and waiters are rude and have no desire to serve you unless you are providing tips everytime, the place is all inclusive and tipping for every drink is not customary. Food was ok, breakfast buffet was my favorite. Dinners were average, truly the buffet had the best food options. Not impressed with the beach, very small and rocky and no bar nearby. Pool is ok at best. Not very clean, always lots of bugs and cups. They dont keep up with it during the day. Also transpo out of the hotel is big money, cant get transpo for less than $40. Overall it was a good place to sleep and lounge, but we have been to several all inclusive resorts and they have all been much better than this one

so-so

Great all-inclusive vacation for the price! However, the pool smelled like barf after about 11 am every day. We actually saw vomit on a few of the beach chairs... ew! I never actually got into the pool. Looked cloudy and felt too warm when I dipped my feet in. Beach was amazing!! We hung out there most of the time. Great snorkeling towards the rocks on the right when you're facing the ocean. I wish there had been a beach cocktail service though! Staff at Riu never re-stocked our mini-fridge/bar. Even after we asked twice! Also our overhead fan didn't work, and we asked for it to be fixed but it never was. Our water in the room (both shower and sink) was scalding hot for 2 days. After asking for it to be fixed a couple of times, it finally was. The pillows in the room were horrible, as were the beds. But you get what you pay for! At least there was AC. The drinks were good. Chili Guaro shots are a must-try! I wish there had been champagne also. The food was not good at all, anywhere. You could find stuff to get by with though at the buffets. The tour guide/excursion companies in the front lobby were amazing. Definitely recommend the 4-hour ATV trip and sunset catamaran/snorkel! Overall a great trip with great friends. :) Good vacay for how cheap it was.

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness: the food, the drinks, the everything.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Three sparkling pools, surrounded by lush greens keep you refreshed and cool. Pool side bars quench your thirst.

The liquor dispenser in the room lets you craft your own cocktail (soda water and mixers are stocked in the fridge.)

The beach isn't crowded and the tropical background adds to its peacefulness. Find your perch.

The stunner of a view with green lush landscapes and rolling mountains off in the distance - breathtaking.

Riu knows how to put on a show and the live entertainment day and night won't disappoint.

Some great rocks nearby for snorkeling - pack your own gear if you want to make sure you get a mask.

What We'd Change

The walk from the lobby to the pool doesn't offer much shade. Luckily, the pool's swim-up bar offers quick relief with ice-cold beer.

Why You Should Go

Riu is not far from the airport in Liberia - a quick 20 minutes to your tropical oasis.

A great spot for adventure-seeking tourists with excursions like Rincon Nature Park and the Safari Park nearby.

The beachy tan sands are sometimes rocky under the water - just grab shoes to wear & you'll be set.

Laid-back Costa Rican resort with lots to experience in the area - unique foliage and wild life add to the charm.

Much-needed spa time lets you get uber relaxed - massages, steam baths, facials in tropical paradise.

Activities galore - tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, windsurfing, kayaks, paddle boards. Game on.
