Kids Spring Break

very pleased with the layout of the pool/outside activities area. My boys 8, 10 were able to get around without me worrying. Lots of activities to do during the day. The kids particularly liked the crazy games and the foam party. 2 of the three elevators were out while we were there, it wasn't too bad because we were on the 4th floor so we could walk and get in and out quicker. The size of the beds in the room are way too small for two adults or an adult and a child.

Excellent

No issues with transportation to and from the RIU. Just remember to keep walking until you get outside, don't stop. Everything was excellent! From the time we arrived until the day we left. Every room faces the beach. I've been to lots of nice hotels and this was my 5th visit to Mexico. RIU is one the best. This was also our 22nd Anniversary and they left champagne in the room two days in row. They also inviting us to one of there exclusive restaurants. There was always workers keeping the resorts clean to include the beach. The buffet selection was huge and the staff was on top of there game! I love the read negative reviews just for laughs, but this place was all good. We will return!!

Do not go !

we are still on the resort and let me start off by saying that I am not snobby, and I was not expecting 5 star fancy-shmancy service. I am currently writing this at the neighbor hotel, riu caribe's beach. this is the only spot on the beach during the day where we can get a nice spot and good service ( FROM THE OTHER HOTEL). Not to mention the wifi doesn't reach out here. I am staying with a group of friends. This is the second all-inclusive hotel that myself and my husband have been to. We have been to a sandals resort before, and now we will not venture from sandals ever again! the service at riu is borderline rude. the servers expect tips, which we have done, and it has got us nowhere. Last night, I politely asked a bartender to re-make my drink due to having too much vermouth in my martini. I believe his name is Frank. He argued with me about not putting a lot in my first drink, and rolled his eyes while obviously reluctantly making my second. At "sport bar" (the ONLY late night bar) you have to pay to play pool and an antique foozeball table. While going to exchange my american dollar for coins, in order to play, the bartender refused to take a single i handed him because there was a tiny rip in the corner, saying that a tear in money is no good in Cancun. the food is sub-par at best. the buffet gets crowded with a bunch of rude people fighting over food. the food is not labeled clear enough at the buffet and you are constantly in a guessing game of what you are eating. you are constantly being bombarded with sales people while at the beach. the beach itself is definitely one of the only pros we have about this trip. the lobby bathrooms are always disgustingly dirty and smelly. we always have to call to have our fridge re-stocked, and half the time it doesn't even come in a timely manner. if you plan on arriving before 3 pm, there is zero chance of you getting in your room before 3:30. they send you to a nasty hotel lobby bathroom with dirty showers to change, if you chose to go swimming while you wait 7 hours for your room to be ready. the best restaurant is the steakhouse. however, the service was horrible. we had to go to the buffet to get drinks, even when we were sitting at the dinner table. we waited 45 minutes for our table. in the mean time we figured we would snag some snacks from the buffet and wait in the lobby, at the bar. A staff member, I believe Frank again, told us that we had to leave the lobby bar due to our "stinky food." we proceeded to wait the 45 minutes for our table, outside with our "stinky food." if you are thinking of visiting this hotel, please reconsider. save your money or spring the extra hundred bucks for a politer environment. the water in our room was opened when we arrived. all of the seals were opened and used. the tv in your room is always scratchy so don't plan on watching anything at night when you are bored because no one tells you what is going on. no one is walking around or letting you know what the entertainment will be for the evening. there is a screen in the lobby but you won't be able to read it unless you have super human vision and are able to read something within a second before the screen changes. the kids on the resort are constantly left unsupervised. a group of kids were in the lobby hallway playing a soccer game and hitting at least 8 guests with their ball along the way. HERE IS THE KICKER! on the way up from the beach our door was left opened for several hours after the cleaning service came through. the front desk gave a half hearted apology and promised to send champagne to the room , and they never did. save your money and don't go here !!! Also, my friend's shower didn't wrk the entire time, which is one of the few pros.

Great Resort!

Incredible staff! Rooms were nice. Always clean. There were lots of options for food. Even a picky eater could find something to eat. Lots of different pools to choose from. My only (personal) complaint was that the resort was almost too big. You never ran into the same people. Everything was really spread out. There were also no beach activities. Everything was geared around the pools. Great resort overall. And the staff was truly great!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The uber dazzling stretch of white sand, tropical flora and crystal clear aquamarine water.

Stress-ousting massages, steam baths and saunas at the delicious spa. It's a Melt-a-thon.

RiuLand - supervised activities for kids 4-12 while you get your drink & relaxation on.

The day trip to Isla Mujeres to see the sea turtles and all the electrically colorful fish.

The more-than-delish Mexican nosh spot and steakhouse. (Nom, nom, nom.)

Renting a moped or scooter and tooling around, taking in all the natural beauty.

Getting a bottle of tequila sent to your room for your birthday.

What We'd Change

While the nightly entertainment may not be for everyone, you are close enough to the heart of Cancun to find something that will strike your fancy.

Why You Should Go

It's just 13 miles away from the airport so that Beach Relief aka Your Vacay will start before you know it.

Mayan ruins are on site and near (Chichen Itza). For history buffs, it's a great dose of antiquity.

The resort is off-the-beaten path, but you can hope on a shuttle to the hot spots in Cancun.

There are oceans of water sports: kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing and more.

When you're not in the luscious ocean, you can hit the gym or play beach volley ball.

Travelers report excellent service, that you'll feel like Beach Royalty. (It's a palace, after all.)

You can rent jet skis and for a fee, go scuba diving. Take the plunge.
