Very pleased

Overall this resort was very nice. The service and people at the riu palace peninsula was excellent. They were all oh so nice and helpful. The rooms were very nice in fact we got a more luxury room on the all adult side for free when we checked in! The room had a weird odor but it was fine. The pools weee nice the beach was beautiful, the swimup pool was a bit small but the bartenders were nice. All the waiters in the restaurants were very nice and refilled our beverages without asking. Tipping them was my pleasure ! The transportation we booked with cheap Caribbean was very professional they made sure we made our departure flight and made sure we did everything we wanted as far as excursions; amstar was very helpful! The buffet food was the best, the steakhouse was good but overall I will say the food could've been better! Me and my boyfriend had a blast, we really enjoyed ourselves

See you again next year

Beautiful resort ( although the lobby décor is somewhat garrish). Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff in all areas of the resort. If you're thinking about excursions, watch out for the taxes and upsells. All in all a fantastic resort! thank you Riu Palace Peninsula staff!

The Riu in Cancun sucks

Never Again. If you do get stuck at this dump please say hello to Max at the buffet. He is the only person there that was cool. We made the best of it but we had to switch rooms a bunch of times and we had to have repairmen in every single room. I ended up helping the plumber fix the plumbing in the first room that we got with feces on the bathroom floor. An outlet burned up in front of our eyes in the third room. We didnt get our second room because of a time mix up which actually left us without a room for a while. I never asked for anything more than what I paid for and time after time I kept getting horrible customer srrvice. Its a shame that this worked out like this because we vacation 3-4 times a year and at this point I dont believe I will continue to do business with Cheap Caribbean or Riu.

Room 1 - July 2017

First off, I paid for private transfer but was given shuttle transfer. I paid for a Deluxe Ocean View Suite but when I checked in they upgraded me to a Deluxe Ocean View Suite, odd. My room was on the 16th floor. I noticed several poorly repaired cracks in the walls on the 16th floor. The rooms do not have a mini fridge, they have a "chiller" according to staff. The drinks are a little cooler than room temperature at best. Shower works fine, didn't try the tub. Patio has two chairs and plenty of room. Linens were fine and bed was comfortable. The TV only has a couple of channels in English from Miami (CBS+NBC). The beach - not terribly large, the beach area to the left (next to the dock) is nice the beach area to the right is very rocky and full of seaweed. The pools and swim-up bar were very nice, lots of chairs available and poolside restaurant was good, chairs in shade go fast. Some of the restaurants require long pants to eat at while others did not. The mexican and steak house did not require long pants. The buffet has a rather wide selection of foods and deserts.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The uber dazzling stretch of white sand, tropical flora and crystal clear aquamarine water.

Stress-ousting massages, steam baths and saunas at the delicious spa. It's a Melt-a-thon.

RiuLand - supervised activities for kids 4-12 while you get your drink & relaxation on.

The day trip to Isla Mujeres to see the sea turtles and all the electrically colorful fish.

The more-than-delish Mexican nosh spot and steakhouse. (Nom, nom, nom.)

Renting a moped or scooter and tooling around, taking in all the natural beauty.

Getting a bottle of tequila sent to your room for your birthday.

What We'd Change

While the nightly entertainment may not be for everyone, you are close enough to the heart of Cancun to find something that will strike your fancy.

Why You Should Go

It's just 13 miles away from the airport so that Beach Relief aka Your Vacay will start before you know it.

Mayan ruins are on site and near (Chichen Itza). For history buffs, it's a great dose of antiquity.

The resort is off-the-beaten path, but you can hope on a shuttle to the hot spots in Cancun.

There are oceans of water sports: kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing and more.

When you're not in the luscious ocean, you can hit the gym or play beach volley ball.

Travelers report excellent service, that you'll feel like Beach Royalty. (It's a palace, after all.)

You can rent jet skis and for a fee, go scuba diving. Take the plunge.
