Decent; But would not return to this resort

The resort was clean and a small number of the staff was friendly. There is high pressure selling going on 24/7 from many angles for many things (timeshare; souvenirs; services; etc). The resort is over an hour away from any 'real' town making excursions longer and more expensive (travel/taxi time). To do any tourist shopping you will need to take a taxi and subject yourself to additional high pressure sales (I was highly put off by this and did not want to purchase anything). TIP: Go to the supermarkets and price items there before buying in tourist stores. Prices are better and no pressure. I rated food "good" as I know I am a picky eater and rated optimistically. I did not like the food AT ALL!! The buffet has a large variety of items that is changed three times a day. The onsite restaurants, although better as not great. Mexican was the best and we ate there multiple times. Although food is served 22 hours a day the snack bar is the same 10 items all the time and is not appetizing. Burgers soaked in water; greasy chips under a heat lamp; watery nacho cheese sauce; several wilted vegetables and fruit options. The bar is readily available and easy to get to., Coffee and tea also available along with filtered water. Soda is not readily available nor is juice outside of meal times (not snack bar) and has to be requested. Taking food to your room is frowned upon but allowed. Activities are not what you think they are. Although set times are in place for each activity it seems it is up to the employee to determine if 'allowed' or not. We were able to do 1 sailing time in 11 days. All the other day there was some excuse to not allow us to use equipment or get instructions. The entertainment staff is immature and cheesy. A bunch of young adults who appear to have no guidance or agenda other than picking up on the single girls in the pool. Their games and other 'entertainment' ideas are the worst and we would leave the area; opting for our room rather than spending time watching and listening to them be fools. The check in staff is untruthful; saying you need to pay cash; to them; to use the safe, get towels; etc. This is not true although we found out too late. Wi-Fi is free only in the lobby and is sketchy at best. You can pay for additional services. We did not do this so I can't speak to it. with al that said - the beach and water is AMAZING!! There are ample chairs at the beach and at the pool; which is clean and lovely! The Dominican Republic is definitely a place to go ... just no this resort!

Forgotten in Puerto Plata

We were unable to stay at the resort because of systematic overbooking by Cheapcaribbean & Wyndham resorts. We were stuck in a building two blocks away that had many problems including no hot water. A complete disappointment of a vacation caused by the mentioned companies. I will be filing a case in the local court system here in New Hampshire once I am over the shock of what just happened!

Good vacation but needs some change

We got an upgrade at the front desk to a "VIP" room. It was nice because the room was big and spacious. All though on the 2nd night our bathroom roof started leaking from bad plumbing. You can see that this is a common occurrence as the ceiling is bowed in and probably has mold. At the front desk I asked for maintenance to fix it. It took a while for maintenance to come but the problem got fixed. Our maid service on our second day came into our rooms and took our shower towels but did not leave fresh new ones nor cleaned our room? I had to go to the front desk to ask to have it done. The bar tenders had a bit of an attitude and generally did not seem happy. The entertainers were absolutely welcoming and good people. Most of the staff were nice. The food was OK/good depending on what you ordered. The buffet was not bad at all but the Mexican restaurant was by far the best. The beach in the photos is no where near the size of the actual beach by half. There was a lack of beach chairs. Everyday we got frustrated looking for a beach chair and would give up and just sit by the bar. The beach did have a decent amount of litter on it. Probably from the guests that just left their trash. When we finally found open beach chairs we couldn't enjoy it because we were swormed by vendors trying to sell trinkets. Even after curtious "no gracis" they would try to force their merchandise down your throat. All in all we made the best of the trip and put on a smile.

Hotel Description

Viva Wyndham Tangerine: Private Beach, Personal Paradise

Tired of the humdrum and ready for some action? The all-inclusive Viva Wyndham Tangerine lies smack dab in the heart of Puerto Plata in the town of Cabarete. The resort is on a newly expanded private beach, featuring complimentary loungers and towels, so the only things you need to bring are plans for all the fun that is just waiting for you.

Tangerine's expansive freshwater pool offers prime real estate for aqua adventures. Parents can unwind and relax in their own oasis. And, kids get to splash around in their own, supervised pool courtesy of the Kids' Program.

The resort's 4 dining options keep stomachs full and happy while providing all the variety you want with a touch of Caribbean flair. The Dominican Republic and Puerto Plata boasts its own flavorful take on food that you'll find delicious. After dinner, there's nearby nightlife, but the resort's live, nightly entertainment and disco keep the party hoppin' close to home.

After a night of dancing, try a different sort of shimmy on the majestic, rolling waters just off the shores of Cabarete. Kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and kite-surfing are yours for the asking. Back at the resort, there's an adult game room for a touch of friendly indoor competition. Enjoy a bit of indoor pampering at the full-service spa or go mountain biking and horseback riding if you're looking for something with speed and adventure. If you just want to dominate the competition with your blistering serve or enviable bicep curls, the hard-surfaced tennis court and fitness center are happy to oblige.

When it's time to wind down, your comfy room is waiting just for you. A cushy bed offers a superb spot to crash, and a mini bar stands ready to help you relax as you plan your next day in paradise.
