Family fun trip

We were 4 sisters and their families traveling together as a group. The VIK Hotel Arena Blanca proved to be a "just right" resort-- in size, in value, in options. Best: friendly staff, beaches, pools Worst: the empty disco, but it was off-season during our stay It took a couple of days for us to work out a routine of communication and familiarize ourselves with the schedule and dining options, but the resort is a perfect intimate size, so nothing was hard to find or figure out. You quickly become accustomed to mealtimes, activities, and how things are done. Tips: If you like a large coffee in the mornings or would like to have a large beverage with you (ice water, soda, or a cocktail on the beach) then bring a big portable and capped cup with you. The Mexican restaurant is open every night except maybe one or two nights per week. It is VERY GOOD, and worth visiting a couple of times at least. The Italian and Seafood restaurants alternate the nights they are open. They too were good. The buffet is available every day and night, and is the only option for breakfast or a full lunch. Food was okay, plentiful. You can also get pizza, burgers, hot dogs, French fries, and sometimes chicken at the snack place next to the pool. Get to the lobby early in the morning to get any necessary online stuff done, as everyone will congregate there to access the wifi, and it will eventually slow to a virtual halt as the bandwidth gets crowded. Six am is good, but I also noticed that at 3am the wifi actually worked in my room (in nearby building 2). I don't think we would have had an enjoyable time at a larger resort, and the VIK made it a pleasurable escape with no difficulty in finding each other, but with some real nice perks. Do sail on the catamaran with Andreas, do join in the dance lessons with Alejandro and Angelica, and do let Pedro and Edy tend to you as your attentive bartenders and waiters.

Awesome Vacation for my Family

I'm going to write my review so that people won't be hesitant about buying like I was...me and my family of 4, daughter of 3 and son of 14..I will break down the vacation in different sections..we went for 7 days from Wednesday October 12 thru Wednesday October 19th. We got a good price..all inclusive you can't beat the price...we travelled thru Frontier which isn't bad at all despite all the negative reviews only thing I can say is bring snacks..nothing is served on the flight without paying for it..once off the plane DO NOT CHANGE MONEY! U.S.dollars are accepted in the D.R. go thru customs bring $10 per person to enter the country..walk past the hoarde of people trying to sell other resorts and go directly to your shuttle we went through cheap carribean and used Amstar which was perfectly fine. They were prompt and on time..once we got to the resort we had to wait a few hours as our room was not ready till 3pm..we went to the pool and ate lunch came back at 3 and our room was ready got our cards for our towels (you use the cards to get your towels at the pool and just return them when you are done remember keep your cards they charge you $20 if you lose the towels/cards) got our room keys and went to our rooms the rooms are perfectly fine..PLEASE USE THIS TIP! I see alot of reviews saying the A.C., or the fridge dosent work...leave your card in the slot as soon as you open the door and leave it placed in the slot for the remainder of your trip thats what keep the power on..this way your fridge is always cold, your room is always nice and cool...just check after the maid cleans the rooms cause sometimes they remove them, but not always..the pool is beautiful sometimes you have to look for a hut to lay under with chairs, but we can always find chairs for every member of my family...they have dance classes everyday for salsa, merengue, and bachata 3 times a day..they even have excersise classes in the pool, they have games where the kids can win prizes everyday...the beach is even more beautiful, we spent every day a few hours on the beach...if you have teenagers just warn them that women atleast European women sometimes get topless...just a warning..the buffet is were we ate everyday and I can't tell you this if you are spanish you will enjoy every meal..do not let the reviews deter you..the buffet had something different everyday we were there and everything was fresh from the food to the fruit...they have wine and beer also on tap ready for you...can't tell you about the other restaurants cause the buffets were more than enough for us..they so have fun shows at night from Michael Jackson show, to a dance shows from every nation, PLEASE REMEMBER THIS THEY HAVE A DISCO TO DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY they don't promote it much not sure why cause it's fun, but it's right after the dance show from 11pm-2am right next to were the shows are performed...just ask someone and they will direct you...also for late night food, they have sandwiches and soups at the sports bar which me and the wife enjoyed very much...they beach is beautiful to walk through at night with your partner...we even ventured off into other hotels to see what it was like and I can tell you they are nothing but boring, saw people just walking around looking for something to do...there is plenty to do at arena blanca...the animation group tries to hype everyone up and for everyone to have a good time...the people are friendly and always greeted everyone....they have different animals from a monkey to and iguana and different types of birds for you to take pictures with...the photographers know what they are doing and go around taking pictures all day long...I can say the people there work long hours and are there all day from morning to night to make everyone feel comfortable and to make sure they have a good time...PLEASE TIP even if it's a dollar or 2 bring small bills with you..they do have alot of people that hassle you just a little, but once you say no they know who you are and leave you alone...no need to be rude a simple no will suffice...this is one of the best trips I have taken and will definitely will be back....

VIK Arena Blanc

The resort was beautiful, the staff where extremely friendly and helpful. Brush up on your Spanish, your housekeeper, waiters, and buffet attendants have very basic English language skills. The beach was raked and cleaned every morning, the pools were cleaned every morning, the lounge chairs were cleaned every morning. Be sure to get your lounge chair early, the good ones go fast. Late October seemed to be a great time to go, the weather was warm but not hot, and the occupancy was low. Dinner options you need to learn the rotation of the restaurants, the buffet is always a great choice but if you want the table service, make sure you know what the menu is ahead of time. The resorts liquor is not top shelf or pouring brand, it's a little below. It's "Royal Brand". Bartenders, waiters, front desk, they are a good resource for info. Housekeeping needs help, one day no towels, one day no water, one day no face clothes. And bush up on your Spanish like I said, then you'll have no trouble getting the things your missing. We used the Pelicano watersports on the property, a little expensive, but worth the money. Also the adventure day theme park guys have a shop on the property, they are aggressive with there sales too. They can not bother you when your at the pool or beach. But other company's can bother you at the beach. Beware of the photo guys, their prices are off the charts, and will try to block you from using your own camera when they are one a "scheduled shoot". And don't take there prices as is, push them for a better deal. I got the full package for 1/3 the price. The Duty free stores and Local Guys selling things have great products, but you will pay more. Ask where the closest Mini-Market is and you will be much happier with there pricing, but be warned, they are great used "car salesmen". They will sell you everything in the store and if you're not good at negotiations they will get you to buy it all at top price. Watch the old, putting it in you hand, don't worry about the price trick. All in all the Resort was great, We went with extended family, if you are good with scheduling and everyone is eager to go with the flow, it will be great, just keep and open mind, enjoy your time and have fun.

Hotel Description

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Slip Beneath the Stress

Feeling drained? That's your body telling you it's time to recharge! No fuel is better than the sun, sand and sea at the VIK Hotel Arena Blanca. Located in tropical Punta Cana, the beachfront resort is a gem. The exquisite spa, gorgeous pools and nearly 24-hour entertainment for honeymooners ad families are just the start to a care-free experience in paradise.

The ivory shores of Bavaro Beach beckon sunbathers while snorkelers and scuba divers find bliss off shore. What's more, the resort offers non-motorized water activities free of charge. Skim over the waves on a complimentary catamaran excursion, or head to the resort's pool for a game of water polo. If you'd rather just relax and bask in the island atmosphere, though, the resort also provides loungers, palapas and towels for you to do just that. A refreshing beverage from the beachside Bucanero Bar tops off a perfectly beachy afternoon.

When dinnertime rolls around, check out El Mirador to sample the theme-based evening menu this buffet has in store. If you want Caribbean-style meals, La Proa serves up meat and seafood dishes with signature Island flair. In the mood for Italian? Don your best "smart casual" ensemble and make an appearance at La Trattoria for pasta dishes served a la carte. On Fridays, the decision is easy. Head straight for El Cano, where guests enjoy a fun seaside barbecue under the stars.

After dinner, the party keeps going at Calipso Bar until 5am. If the night's still young, though, the Fun Pub is the best spot to get groovin'. Then, if you feel like you're on a roll, venture to the Towers Casino to see how Lady Luck treats you.

If gambling is a step too close to the wild side for you, get a good night's rest instead, and prepare for the relaxation experience of your life at Etra Spa. From private parlors for couples massages to a full-service hair salon, the resort's on-site spa pampers you until the cares of ordinary life become distant memories.
