Money Theft

There are many resorts in Dominican Republic and we decided to choose Vik Arena Blanca, because we liked everything that it had to offer us. I have traveled to many locations, hotels and homes in others countries. The several of the people I traveled with  have contributed to several travel blogs with pictures and interviews. I travel often with family  members who are travel journalist. So when they gave the thumbs up to Vik Arena Blanca I didn’t hesitate. When we got to the resort everything was great the people were super nice and very energetic, we loved it. The next morning we wanted to stay in sleeping  until noon because we were so tired of the travel. We had the cleaning crew come knock at out door and our families door to clean, but we declines because we were sleeping still. Later around 12:30pm when the buffet opened up we went to eat brunch and headed over to the beach. We were there until 7:30 pm and then went in to our rooms to get ready to go eat dinner. I went in to my purse to take out my makeup bag and saw that my wallet was opened, that is  not how I had left it. I went to see what had happened, opened it and my $300 were gone, the thief only left me with $3. I know for sure my money was there and not in any other location, because I made sure to place all my money in one location. I placed my wallet all the way in the bottom and placed other items on top. So it was not on top as if someone just saw it and wanted to a look inside. They had to reach in the my bag, removed what was on top and reach all the way to the bottom, then proceed to open and steal the money. Out of all the years of traveling and staying at so many places this is the first time this has happened to me and my family. We went right away to reception to inform the person who was there of what had happened and place our complaint. We spoke to Carlos  and he assured us that he would do what was necessary. We went on an excursion around 6:30 am so we did not have time in the morning to check what was going on, but as soon as we returned around 7:00 pm we went to go check what had been done. To our surprise there was no report filed by the Carlos, whom we had spoken to the first time. We were very frustrated and asked to speak to someone in charge and when we explained what happen to the Gilbert the second person we gave our complaint to he basically said why we didn’t we pay the $2 fee prepay for the security vault.I was very upset, because we travel light and never take jewelry or other items high in value. I didn’t take my valet because we were at the ocean and didn’t want to get my money or purse wet. Either way he didn’t have to respond that way. So I got my money stolen because I didn’t for the security vault? Finally after a long wait we got someone in charge that came to our room and brought security to look at our room and see if there were any forced entries,  nothing was found. Then they took the door information to see who had came in and out of the room with a key card. We had to look for that information even though they had said that they would let us know when it was ready to see. We asked to speak to a manager and all they could do is send us to Francisco who was very rude, unpleasant and not helpful at all.He basically just threw the paper with the information of who came in the room. and didn’t explain anything. We specifically told him no one opened the door on 07/16/17 because they knocked and we said no room service, so they didn’t even have the time to place the card in to the key hole. We are not experts of on reading key card information, we know something about them because we have done articles on how they work, but they change depending on the hotel and their protocols. We told Francisco if he could please talk to the cleaner #11 who we saw had came int he room that day after we said no room service. He did nothing and was just rude and not helpful, and he is the manager of customer service…. We demanded to speak to the general manager, because he was not helpful at all and was rude and kept cutting us off when we were asking him questions. When he demanded to talk to the manager he then said the manager Marcos Soto was ill and could not speak to us, we know things work because we have been to many, many hotels before. We kindly asked him to call the manager or give us his number because we need to speak to someone in charge because no one was getting anything done. After letting him know we were not leaving until we talked to a manager he called Mr. Soto and left him a voice mail. We asked him to give us his number or make him come talk to us. He then said he wasn’t near then he remembered he said the manager was ill. After much debate he called again and said that the manager Milton Hernandez , but we would have to wait more than an hour. We decided to go to the beach because we are there to vacation and we were having to waste time filing this information because they stole our money and they wouldn’t even help us.They offered to take  us to the police station that was far and didn’t guarantee that it wouldn’t take all day, it was our last day there and we could not waste it since we had already paid for several activities. We were offered no solutions or even the intent to apologize, offer more investigation, not even trying to comp anything for the horrible economic inconvenience. Maybe VIK does this to all their visitors and have an organized ring of chiefs since they didn’t even try to help us out, perhaps this is how they get extra money out of the tourist. I would not and will not recommend this place to anyone, if they can’t even handle a theft how would they handle an emergency? Nor would I recommend any other VIK hotels, because one one HORRIBLE experience with this location is enough no make you say NO to any other location in the WORLD.  I also believe that the government should be very proactive in case that have to do with tourism, because the economy is very much fueled by travelers. We fell in love with Dominican Republic and the people, unfortunately I am not sure I can recommend VIK to any of my friends, or at least take the money with you! we all work very hard for our money for it to be taken away just like that? NO response from the location nor help? I rather try my luck some where else.

Ok but wouldn't return

I stayed at the VIK for a week with my 3 daughters. I enjoyed the beach and pool. The beach had too much seaweed daily. My biggest complaint was the conditions of the rooms. The rooms were not kept up to my standards. We did not receive clean towels or water bottles on a daily basis. The grounds of the hotel were kept up nicely. Plenty of entertainment and the staff was very friendly. Food selections were limited to the time of day you wanted to eat.

I am from Pennsylvania. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time. The food was good after you knew where to get it. Best bang for your buck.

Hotel Description

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Slip Beneath the Stress

Feeling drained? That's your body telling you it's time to recharge! No fuel is better than the sun, sand and sea at the VIK Hotel Arena Blanca. Located in tropical Punta Cana, the beachfront resort is a gem. The exquisite spa, gorgeous pools and nearly 24-hour entertainment for honeymooners ad families are just the start to a care-free experience in paradise.

The ivory shores of Bavaro Beach beckon sunbathers while snorkelers and scuba divers find bliss off shore. What's more, the resort offers non-motorized water activities free of charge. Skim over the waves on a complimentary catamaran excursion, or head to the resort's pool for a game of water polo. If you'd rather just relax and bask in the island atmosphere, though, the resort also provides loungers, palapas and towels for you to do just that. A refreshing beverage from the beachside Bucanero Bar tops off a perfectly beachy afternoon.

When dinnertime rolls around, check out El Mirador to sample the theme-based evening menu this buffet has in store. If you want Caribbean-style meals, La Proa serves up meat and seafood dishes with signature Island flair. In the mood for Italian? Don your best "smart casual" ensemble and make an appearance at La Trattoria for pasta dishes served a la carte. On Fridays, the decision is easy. Head straight for El Cano, where guests enjoy a fun seaside barbecue under the stars.

After dinner, the party keeps going at Calipso Bar until 5am. If the night's still young, though, the Fun Pub is the best spot to get groovin'. Then, if you feel like you're on a roll, venture to the Towers Casino to see how Lady Luck treats you.

If gambling is a step too close to the wild side for you, get a good night's rest instead, and prepare for the relaxation experience of your life at Etra Spa. From private parlors for couples massages to a full-service hair salon, the resort's on-site spa pampers you until the cares of ordinary life become distant memories.
