VIK Arena- Just NO

We were downgraded to a garden room as they overbooked the hotel. The next day we were supposed to be put into our ocean room but instead another garden room. Day 3 we were finally moved to an ocean view room that smelled like sewer gas. There are so many kids there that you couldn't find relaxation anywhere. The nightly entertainment was very poor and repetitive. Resort is in serious need of updating as the buildings were in poor shape, roofs were leaking and when it rained, the floors were incredibly slippery. They did not put down mats or non slip protection. Just a caution sign... Also the only wifi is in the lobby and ran very slow. None of the outdoor furniture matched and was very worn. Again, in need of serious upgrading. The food was fine, you could always find something to eat. The ala carte restaurnants wer enot worth the time. The beach was blah....nice sand but water was murky and not good for snorkeling which we love to do. All in all, would not stay here again. Affordable vacation but everything was very low budget in taste, style and entertainment and drinks. fyi- only coffee is in lobby, none in your room...

Good Overall Value

The best part about our trip was the incredibly friendly staff, the gorgeous Beach, and the Very sizable hotel rooms. The food at the cafeteria and other restaurants I was just okay. My wife and I are vegetarians and we had no problems finding something to eat, but the quality of the food was not the best. I would give this hotel an overall rating of 4 stars had it not been for the overwhelming number of timeshare salesman that hound you for a "VIP experience" every time you walk to the cafeteria, and every time you leave. The beach was for sure the best part of the stay. The downside, is if there is bad weather there is really not a whole lot to do. We had two days of inclement weather while we were there, and we went a little stir-crazy in the hotel room. Other than that, our trip was fun and the overall value was there for the price that we paid. I have to give a big shout-out to the staff. All of the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and they love kids! We were out there with our two year old and all of the staff love interacting with him and us. Had it not been for the friendly and upbeat staff, it certainly would have made the trip less enjoyable.

Great value package

We picked up a 7-day all inclusive deal including flight and airport transfers about 4 months back and just got home. Overall the deal was an amazing purchase for two parents and a baby. Arriving late due to some weather delays, the check in staff was so nice and gave us wrist bands to go to the dinner buffet before it closed and then said to come back to complete checking in. After dinner we got to our room to find the a/c unit had the room at a balmy 80*. We were told the room key needs to be in a trudged that keeps the unit running and since it hadn't been in all day, it needs some time is all. We woke to the same temp and once again sought repairs. They supposedly came and fixed it while we were on the beach but by 1 pm, still hot. Called to complain again. Sent someone else to fix. Around 9 pm, we were finally moved to the neighboring room with good ac. These poor interactions with front desk staff offset the helpful ones we had the night before, as this go around they were very dismissive and annoyed we kept bothering them. The beaches and pools here were excellent. We had some high winds but each day the staff had the pool spotless with the leaves and palm fronds cleaned up. The beach has ample shade umbrellas and chairs. The food was good. The buffet has a good variety including some options for vegetarians and dieters. Personal favorite was trying the Italian place out and the tiramisu they had was fantastic. The one item I can say negative about food is the poolside grill serving hamburgers, hotdogs, fries and pizza was somehow always out of pizza. The pizza was good but three different days I went there and there was no pizza. Plenty of burgers and dogs, so still not going hungry. The housekeepers were great. All the staff was friendly overall and always said Hola when passing by. We would go back here in the future, should the opportunity arrive.

Hotel Description

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Slip Beneath the Stress

Feeling drained? That's your body telling you it's time to recharge! No fuel is better than the sun, sand and sea at the VIK Hotel Arena Blanca. Located in tropical Punta Cana, the beachfront resort is a gem. The exquisite spa, gorgeous pools and nearly 24-hour entertainment for honeymooners ad families are just the start to a care-free experience in paradise.

The ivory shores of Bavaro Beach beckon sunbathers while snorkelers and scuba divers find bliss off shore. What's more, the resort offers non-motorized water activities free of charge. Skim over the waves on a complimentary catamaran excursion, or head to the resort's pool for a game of water polo. If you'd rather just relax and bask in the island atmosphere, though, the resort also provides loungers, palapas and towels for you to do just that. A refreshing beverage from the beachside Bucanero Bar tops off a perfectly beachy afternoon.

When dinnertime rolls around, check out El Mirador to sample the theme-based evening menu this buffet has in store. If you want Caribbean-style meals, La Proa serves up meat and seafood dishes with signature Island flair. In the mood for Italian? Don your best "smart casual" ensemble and make an appearance at La Trattoria for pasta dishes served a la carte. On Fridays, the decision is easy. Head straight for El Cano, where guests enjoy a fun seaside barbecue under the stars.

After dinner, the party keeps going at Calipso Bar until 5am. If the night's still young, though, the Fun Pub is the best spot to get groovin'. Then, if you feel like you're on a roll, venture to the Towers Casino to see how Lady Luck treats you.

If gambling is a step too close to the wild side for you, get a good night's rest instead, and prepare for the relaxation experience of your life at Etra Spa. From private parlors for couples massages to a full-service hair salon, the resort's on-site spa pampers you until the cares of ordinary life become distant memories.
