NICE SMALL SCALE PROPERTY

I'VE BEEN TO PUNTA CANA MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS, AND AFTER ARRIVING REALIZED THAT I STAYED HERE PREVIOUSLY. THIS IS A CLEAN BASIC RESORT AND REASONABLY PRICED, ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE TRAVELING SOLO. OTHER THAN A FEW GROUPS OF CANADIANS, I WAS ONE OF A HANDFUL OF INDEPENDENT GUESTS FROM THE UNITED STATES (FINE WITH ME)--MOST GUESTS WERE LARGE GROUPS OF EUROPEANS AND RUSSIANS THAT ARRIVED ENMASS VIA FULL MOTOR COACH BUS SHUTTLES FROM THE AIRPORT. THE VARIETY AND QUALITY OF FOOD OFFERED AT THE BUFFET IMPROVED FROM MY LAST STAY HERE. THE BEST REASON TO STAY AT THIS RESORT IS THAT THE BEACH HAS NOT SUFFERED FROM EROSION AND HAS A SANDY BOTTOM. BRING $1 AND $5 BILLS AND TIP ALL OF THE KIND HARDWORKING PEOPLE THAT PROVIDE SERVICE TO YOU

Alright experience

The hotel staff was wonderful upon our arrival bringing us a welcome drink immediately. The staff "upgraded" us to a beach front room, however the room itself was not as nice as the room we would have originally been in (saw an example of it from a friend's room). We did enjoy being close to the beach, pools, 24 hour bars, and restaurants... prime location. Out electricity kept going out for some reason. The staff was wonderful about getting it right back on, however it required people in and out of our room quite a bit. Staff was very friendly our entire trip, and brought us constant entertainment throughout our stay. It was spring break while we were there, so it was a bit noisy... but to be expected given the circumstance. It's a decent hotel for what you pay for. As anywhere foreign, the locals were definitely attempting to push sales on tourists. Unless you get the VIP package, the food options are limited. Buffet is okay, but I personally didn't find it to be anything exciting.

We checked in and was given a fist floor room, as we get to our room we find out it's already occupied. After traveling 9+ hours with 3 kids we just wanted to get to our room. Thankfully they were quick with giving us a new room, up on the third floor. At that point we didn't mind we just wanted a room to relax in. We had the 2 bedroom family suite which wasn't bad, we enjoyed it. I understand it's not too top shape but we were fine with it. Only thing we didn't like was the power outage that happened around a certain time everyday, and the low water pressure that happened at a certain time of the day also, but thinking outside the box we left the room around power outage time and showered before the pressure disappeared lol. We ate at all 3 restaurants that were included (Brazilian, Dominican and buffet) all were good and had no issues with them. Again for the Brazilian restaurant make sure you are in the reservation line before 8:30 when the lady gets there to make a reservation because it fills up quick. The beach is absolutely amazing, the only bad thing is the cabanas fill up fast, some even get claimed the night before. My son woke up at 6:45AM and said he still had trouble finding one, but thankfully he did and we secured it for 2 days. The pools are great also, we spent a day at all three of them, the swim up bar was great. Usually we ended our night riding the trolley for about 30minutes, it was nice and relaxing for the kids. Over all for the price we paid we enjoyed the resort. When on vacation, enjoy it. Don't let the little things bother you. Because we had the kids we didn't see any shows. Everyone on the resort was friendly and very helpful.

Mostly Positive Experience

Pros: - Great, sandy beach. Just make sure to save your chair before breakfast. - Very friendly staff. - The landscaping is beautiful, and there is so much nature and wildlife. The mangrove swamp is incredible! I love that the resort is environmentally conscious and chose to protect the swamps. - Great variety of foods in the buffet. I enjoyed every meal. - The theater performances were really entertaining. - If you're a coffee drinker, you'll love Dominican coffee. The lobby bar has an instant coffee machine that serves pretty good coffee. Cons: - My room could use some renovation. The ceiling has been painted in patches. The chairs smelled foul. The bedding and curtains looked old and unwashed. - I killed a cockroach almost every night in my room. One morning I found a small lizard in the bathroom. - The Brazilian restaurant was okay. The Dominican restaurant was awful. I preferred the buffet. - Bring your own soap, conditioner, and shampoo. - There are two main shops. Obviously everything is very expensive so bring your own meds, first aid kit, extra sunscreen, etc. I really wanted to purchase a nice tropical dress and didn't see much of a selection. - Bring at least $200 in singles for tipping. Sometimes the receptionists will give you singles, and sometimes they lie and say they don't have any. - The Seaquarium excursion was AWFUL! Total waste of money. The snorkeling was really bad. They keep sea lions, dolphins, and sting rays in tiny aquariums. It was heartbreaking. You're on a boat with a large group of people (at least 100) and they break you into groups, so you spend a lot of time waiting around for your turn to snorkel/snuba. Don't waste your time or money.
