A Week in Cancun

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Pyramid last week and everything was great. The Upgrade to VIP and the Pyramid is really worth it with the additional restaurants and bars that we have access to. The liquor is the real stuff and not the watered down stuff you get at the other bars. The cabanas and beach chairs are so comfortable in the exclusive areas. We were able to try a lot of the restaurants while we were staying and they were all great. A recommendation that we would have is to have an earlier dinner. After 730 the wait is around 40 minutes. The shuttle was great-people were helpful. The time share sharks will always be there but if you say no thanks they stop bothering you. Overall we would come back to the Pyramid!

Good, but could be great

The Pyramid at Grand Oasis was a good value for the money. The pools were very nice and adequately sized for the number of people at the resort. All of the food we had was delicious. The rooms were a nice size and all had ocean views. Alex and Pedro at the Fountainbleau bar were exceptional bar tenders. The Red Circus show was fabulous and a must see. I would suggest that the hotel make the following improvements: 1. Ceiling fans in the rooms. The A/C struggles to keep the rooms cool because the atrium is not air conditioned. Weather stripping to seal the doors would also be helpful. 2. Our mini fridge did not seal properly so wasn't cold most of the time we were there. Regular maintenance checks would alleviate this issue. 3. Flags on the pool chairs to request drinks and waiters around the pool areas to serve you right at your chairs. The pool bars got somewhat backed up as there was a maximum of 2 bartenders at either of the bars at a time. We did have a great time and the value for the money was there.

Scam: Read the fine print

This resort tries to get over on every little thing so be prepared and aware. Upon checking in I asked since my group of 3 had purchase the top package do we still have to wait in the regular "check in" line. I was told we did, then after waiting in line for like 40mins we finally get to the front to only be told didn't have to wait here an that we have to go somewhere else to check in. So now we go there and check in is a breez. After receiving or key ring it upstairs to our room. To realize there has been some mistake I had to order a suite with a double bed but only got a single bed with three occupants. So they expected three grown men to sleep in one bed for a whole week after nearly spreading 3900$ on this vaction. So now we go downstairs to explain the situation. And they tried to make it seem like it was my fault for not specifically requesting a double bed under "special requests" even though I did select a double bed room. Then they tried to explain its the resort doing bc they don't guaranteed beds it's a first come first serve type of thing unless you specifically ask for it. But my thing is 1. I know for sure I clicked on double bed 2. Why would I get a one bed room for three guys lol. Keep in mind we're staying supposedly at the top hotel for the resort which is the pyramid of grand oasis. So now Grand oasis is telling me it's cheapCaribbean's fault not theres. Then cheap Caribbean on the phone Saying its on grand oasis smh. It came down to they wanted us to wait a night and then maybe the next day if there was a room available they might move it but it wasn't for sure. Our check in time was for 3:30 which meant there was another group coming in at 6 so why couldn't they accommodate us first then worry abt the next group since they messed up. We also never got our free smart car that we were supposed to get if you stay for more than 4 days. They tried to give us some excuse about that. Cleaning service didn't come to make the bed till nearly the evening time. AC didn't work too well in our room so it wasn't cold. The shower has only a half a door so water runs on the ground outside of it. which your gonna need A towel for so you don't slip (which happen a couple times) Good luck on trying to get clean towels also. I heard and seen too many complaints abt this resort so I def won't be returning. PS the beach and pools are really really clean and nice. I will give them that, the grounds are well kept too. Also the workers do try their best to provide the best service they can so please tip if you can

Awful

We booked three rooms with each room having two double beds. We were a group of 6 gentlemen. When we arrived we were given rooms with one double bed. Terrible. We asked why and no clear answer. We asked to change rooms and were denied, due to no availability. I immediately called Cheap Carribean, as usual they were very kind and tried to help, the person said she would be in contact with the Resort and see what could be done, in the meantime she said to go to the Concierge and keep asking for the change. First of all, we were unable to get anyone on the phone, we had to go down to the lobby each time to make our request. Not helpful at all, never able to reach anyone, and no one did anything about trying to make our stay enjoyable. We were there for six days, and nothing, never getting anyone's attention. I guess Cheap Carribean couldn't do anything on there end. My mom and dad used Cheap Carribean a few weeks before we went and they only raved about it, but I guess there is just so much they could have done for us, when the Resort was not willing to help. All I can say and I speak for my entire group of 6 The Pyramid at Grand Oasis is TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE SERVICE. We will never go there again, and Cheap Carribean should discontinue using them on their site, because it makes them look bad. VERY DISSAPOINTED AND UNHAPPY. AWFUL PLACE TO STAY AT. Thank goodness that Mexico beach is beautiful, everything else about the Grand Oasis was TERRIBLE. They should close down, since clearly they are not in the business of being a good resort. I could go on and on about how much we hated the place.

What's to Love

The pool is a quarter-mile long - it's the longest in Cancun.

The coolio pyramid-shaped buildings. Channel your inner Mexican Pharaoh.

The epic entertainment - acrobats, magic and the Red Circus. Like Vegas on the beach.

The body-hugging robe and slippers in the room. Swoon.

The burlesque shows in the Kinky nightclub. (It's the name, but it could be an adjective.)

Treatments like the Antioxidant with Wine massage and Caviar facial. Look out la la land.

The private VIP lounge. Because you're a rock star.

What We'd Change

There is an absolutely crazy amount of stuff to do, and only the truly prepared can conquer it all. There's no better advice we can give you than to plan activities beforehand so you don't go walking in circles trying to find the next thing to do!

Why You Should Go

It's 25 minutes away from the airport. Your unchained beach vacay will kick in before you know it.

There's a nine-hole, par-3 golf course a coconut's throw away.

You can rent a Smart car to tour the area, errbody. This is a blast.

Get exercisey and burn some calories with cross fit, climbing wall, yoga and Zumba.

You can nosh at 24 delish restaurants, six are exclusive to Pyramid guests.

For non-motorized sports, dive in at the nearby AquaWorld Marina. Splish, splash.

You can hang at 23 bars, four are exclusive to Pyramid guests.

You can revel in live concerts, music festivals & shows and themed parties, some of which turn up unexpectedly - dancers seemingly appear out of nowhere and cut a rug in the lobby or comedy skits materialize by the pool. At night, the sizzle continues with a burlesque cabaret show in the Kinky nightclub. Rooms are ocean or lagoon view so you know you'll be gazing at some sweet blue hues.
