The Best Things to Do in Cancun

The Best Things to Do in Cancun

by Austin Keith

What's your idea of getting away from it all? Do you long for a tropical beach and a frosty brew? Does a sparkling pool sound like heaven? Or do you want to pack your bags for days of fun-filled adventure? No matter which dream is yours, Cancun is the answer. Things to do in Cancun, Mexico, range from excursions and attractions to postcard-perfect beaches and afternoons spent around heavenly pools. But if you're up for fun, these attractions just can't be missed!

With so much water around, it's obvious why water sports are one of the major attractions of Cancun. Whether you're a newbie or a mermaid, you won't be able to resist the inviting water and Cancun's miles of gorgeous sandy beaches.

But there's more to do than just work on your tan. Spend a day at Xel-Ha, a natural water park where you can snorkel, dive, kayak, try cliff jumping or swim in a cave. An all inclusive ticket makes a day simple, and available lockers make it easy. Just remember to bring along your biodegradable sunscreen and a waterproof camera for some cool shots of your adventure.

With the world's second largest barrier reef offshore of Cancun, an excursion for snorkeling and diving from your hotel is easy. Or, you can venture out near the ruins at Tulum or Akumal and dive from there. Tulum also offers a chance to go snorkeling in cenotes, the freshwater caves that dot this region. For a different take on snorkeling, visit the Museo Subacuatico de Arte (MUSA for short) an amazing underwater site off Isla Mujeres. This museum houses more than 450 permanent, life-size sculptures, transformed by coral into living artifacts within the ecosystem. It's an easy dive for beginners and an underwater playground for the experienced.

If you're up for something different, head to Puerto Morelos, home to the National Marine Park. Puerto Morelos is a tranquil fishing village with plenty of things to do, and you'll find that the beaches are generally less crowded. It's a great starting point for a guided tour out to the reef for some of the best snorkeling around.

But wait; there's more! One of the best things to do in Cancun, Mexico is a day trip to Chichen Itza, Coba or Tulum to see remarkable Mayan ruins. Or ask us to arrange something more unusual, like an underwater mini-sub tour. It's an adventure matched only by our Xplor day tour with cave swimming, zip lining, rafting and traveling from jungle to grottos via amphibious vehicles. Cancun attractions like these mean a lifetime of memories for you.
