well worth the money
My husband and I took a trip here for our honeymoon and were very pleased with our stay. Before booking, I read lots of reviews and was concerned about some things. However, the price was unbeatable, and we gave it a shot. We stayed for six nights in the north tower. Our room was ocean front on the 7th floor and it was an amazing view. We had absolutely no problems with the resort staff, everyone was extremely helpful. The food was average, but I didn't go to an all inclusive resort expecting a five star restaurant. The buffet food is a lot like cruise food. The restaurants were delicious, however make reservations the day before because they book up very fast. I found the drinks to be much stronger if we threw the bartenders a couple dollars now and then. The beach and pool area do get busy, I saw a lot of people who got up first thing and went to put their towels on chairs to reserve them for the day. The locals are absolutely pushy, and will sell you anything and everything. However, this was something I was prepared for so it didn't really bother me. It's all about your expectations, if you go to this resort expecting the Ritz, you will be disappointed. We went with the idea that we were paying close to nothing for 6 days in Jamaica, with food and drinks included.. And had an amazing time.
Resort was very nice. The staff was exceptional. Very kid friendly, we took our 7 year old and he had a blast. Even when it rained there was plenty to do (ping pong tables, pool table, kids center, shows). The resort was close to the excursions. I highly recommend Dolphin Cove and Chukka Dune Buggys!
It took 3 rooms to get the room we paid for. And to have a lock on the inside of the door, a curtain to shut and a room that didn't smell of mold. Check in was slow, we were not informed of any hotel orientation or how to get a lock for the safe or beach towels or internet or dinner reservations (can only be made in the morning starting 8am, and you had to get there by 10am or it was closed or full), just a crabby slow lady checking us in.The food is fair, all restaurants and buffett serve the same food just the restaurants make it look fancier. The "grill" only serves cheeseburger/fries, hotdog/fries or grilled cheese/fries. The South grill will give you Jerk Chicken and a piece of toast. The desserts are all fakey and jello-y. Cheesecake is made of jello not cream cheese. All of the blended drinks are made with sugary syrups-no fresh fruit is used. NONE. The buffet usually ran out of glasses, silverware and the decent main foods. If you did not get there when it opened you were left with the remains of dried meat and maybe some pasta and spaghetti sauce. We only once got served a cocktail once at the buffett other than getting our own pop by bringing a glass into the buffett with us from the Lobby Bar.We witnessed the North Swim bar only rinsing glasses and not putting them in soapy water. We waited 10-15 minutes to get cocktails only to be served in a juice glass (about 4 oz) because they ran out of glasses. If you didn't reserve a beach chair with your beach towel by 8am you could not get a chair by a pool or the beach. This place is a dump, if you are 18-25yrs old and just want to party, it is fine. But if you want a decent vacation without the hiphop music being played at the pool all day and want good food and a clean place to sleep, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! We heard the steel drums twice at dinner buffett. Most activities such as beach bonfire, NEVER HAPPENED!!!!! The rooms are loud on each sideof the hotel from city noise or city music festival. The Ocean side is still loud with resort music until after midnight and early with kids in pool area playing and we were on the 14th floor. The music by the pool is so loud that it is hard to get away from. The buffett times for Breakfast are: 7am-10am, Lunch 12:15-2:30, dinner 6:30 -10pm. And for dinner by 8:30pm most food was gone and even the carving chef was gone by then. Your only other option is to wait for the cheeseburger grill at 11pm to open. Yuck. And the "funk" in the corners of the pool everyday where very unappealing, we just tried to stay in the middle of the pools and away from the North swim up bar where that "funk" liked to really fester all day.

Jamaica Getaway
We had an interesting week with pros and cons. Immigration took an hour plus. We arrived after a long bus ride of about 3 hours from Montego Bay in a questionable bus that had difficulty with hills, smoked a bit and leaked rain. It stopped at 4 resorts along the way. Resort was spectacular although they didn't have a room for us right off, but they accomodated us. The room sat above a kitchen exhaust that roared constantly which made it uncomfortable to use the balcony. The air conditioning was too cold and would not adjust, but we just figured cold was better than hot and sweaty. We just kept the door open and put up with the exhaust. Furniture was fair with some broken drawer handles. Soap and shampoo were available in dispensers in the shower. No food, beverages or smoking were permitted in the rooms or balconies. $200 fine for smoking in the room. WIFI is available for $5/hour, $15/day and $30/week but doesn't work in the rooms. Only in the North Tower lobby where the router is. WIFI was available on the plane too for $4.95 for the flight.
We left on departure smoothly on a much better bus and only stopped at 2 resorts. We left at 9 am for a 2:30 pm takeoff. We needed much of that time getting to Montego Bay airport and through immigration. Very crowded. Rest of trip was uneventful. Charlotte was much better with customs, etc. Of note, beware of tours. Ask questions. We went on a tour to Bob Marley's home and mausoleum where the write up sounded like a walk in his village, etc. It was a drug buying trip led by a Rastafarian tour guide who is exempt from prosecution for using cannabis because his faith in Jamaica. So unless you want to be exposed to marijuana cookies, tea, cigarettes, cake, etc., don't sign up for the Reggae/Bob Marley tour. It was interesting in that the guide explained all about Bob Marley and the Rastafarian Movement and everything you want to know about drugs in Jamaica. Our friends took other tours that seemed more pleasing and worthwhile. There is really enough to do at the resort to stay there all week. The Island Village shopping and Margaritaville in Ocho Rios were fun. We hired a taxi for that. Ask for Bebe. He was great. Staff at the buffet were awesome. Say hello to Andre, Sonia and Samantha for us. Check the daily activies everyday early. You won't want to miss anything. Fun vacation.

Yes you can! Our packages are advertized for double occupancy but we can certainly adjust the package to meet your needs. Please call an agent for assistance. 1-800-915-2322

Hello Lee,
When you book this trip, tell your travel agent that you want one hotel/flight package and one just hotel. They would be able to accomodate your request.
Mell
No, you will receive a band around your wrisk and unless you are a customer of the hotel, you will not be able to use the facility. They are very strikt on allowing people access to the property withough the band.

Resorts usually offer a discounted adult rate when there is occupancy greater than two people. Specials for January usually come out in the fall. At this time, we are unable to determine the rates for January's specials.

we have 3 children (13, 10 &8) Can we all stay in a room together?3 answers

We had a junior suite and it would hold your family with the addition of a roll away bed ( we used one of these for our daughter ). The two beds in the room were doubles so you would probably need an adult with a child in each of these beds. The roll away nods only one person and did not crowd the room too much as we put it along the wall across from the sofa in the living room area.

Although one room may sleep a max of 4, they have a clever way of joining the rooms. 2 rooms beside each other have separate doors with keycard entries but outside the 2 doors is another set of doors that you can latch and keep the 2 doors to the rooms open.
Rooms are large enough to have a rollaway bed added to a 2 double bed room.

How is the beach?8 answers

Niki
Hi Nikki,
Thank you for your question! The beach at Sunset Jamaica Grande is beautiful and long! It is relatively narrow but the length more than makes up for that. Of course, the ocean is gorgeous and the resort has 5 beautiful pools and a waterfall.
ccsusan1
The beach here is marvelous! White sand and the water has the bluest blues you will ever see. The beach in the hotel zone is really one big beach. Take a scrap of bread into th water and scatter crumbs--you will attract beautiful schools of fish. Marvelous!
Positive
The beach area is awesome! The grounds on this property are very nice. I would recommend based on that alone.
tink
It's calm, and the giant rings are the bomb.
BMW13
The beach was okay. The sand was light colored, not sparkling white. The water was a nice turquoise but did have bottom vegetation in some areas.
jfil
The beach is pleasant but not the best. U are in a protected harbor and u are looking at a port a few hundred yards away. Not exactly what I wanna look at when in a tropic setting, but the water is nice and the beach is cleaned daily.
42lineman
Fablous if you like it calm with no waves. One side for sunbathing and a separate side for watersports.
FLyns
The beach area was small and crowded. You had to save a chair early in the morning or you weren't going to get one. The Water was warm but not over waist deep in the small, permitted swimming area. Absolutely no waves to frolic in. Kind of disappointing.

I did it - moved to another resort and flew out a week later.

I actually did the opposite with no extra charge. I flew into Jamaica a couple of days before checking into the resort and used a one way transfer to the airport to fly back home. Just tell the Cheap Caribben reservation agent exactly what you want to do and they'll arrange everything for you.

Can the resort be contacted by email?1 answer
I'd like to get an idea of nearby golf choices and cost. Would also like to know if room mini refrigerators are available, even if at an additional charge. Would also like to know if dinner reservations can be made in advance of arrival. These questions are regarding the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa.
